Just wondering if they're getting any better, or if the CBI will now always sit on a stack of them as a make shift waiting period. Haven't heard anything in a while.

Last I saw (couple days ago) they were still sitting around 10,000 waiting. They are processing close to 2000 a day I think but it looks like they add about another 1500 a day so they are chipping away at the numbers slowly.

I haven't been in all that many shops, but the few I've gone to are pretty much sold out (pistols, AR's, anything that isn't a black powder rifle), I'm surprised there's enough product left to achieve 1500 new guns sold each day.

People are buying single shot's and old odd caliber bolt actions. Just wait. Once the hard core fudds realize they want EVERYTHING a 15 day wait will seem like..............A REPOST

I'm just guestimating so don't quote me on that. It just seemed like they were doing around 2K a day but the overall number was only dropping a few hundred?

With buddy last Friday looking for an XD. They had received 6 in an hour earlier. So he's been waiting on BGC since then.

I'm starting to think it's an artificially created wait period. I highly doubt they're getting more than a few hundred new checks per day now, and I do not believe for a second that the CBI is actually processing 2K a day. I think they're keeping it inflated so it does take 6 days now to process. Although I would love to be wrong. There is no way the panic can be sustained for long with the supply dwindling so low.

That's what I thought too, until I went to the gun counter on Sunday at Sportsmans and they were still selling anything in black as fast as it came in the door. Filled out one on a Benelli M2 and I'm waitinig, probably next Monday or Tuesday. It was up to 7 days and change when mine was submitted. Seems like as soon as they start getting the number down again, it's saturday and they start climbing again.

Do all these CBI checks only represent FFL transfers or does this include all of the CHP applications they process as well? With the wait I had Tuesday at Arapahoe CSO I know those are likely bogging them down as well even if they aren't part of that count.

These are JUST the CBI firearms background checks. The general level of activity may also cause CHP background checks to take longer, but the reported backlog and wait times of the instacheck site are not interconnectedly related to checks for other purposes.

Run by the same office and people, but those are not in the instacheck system's numbers.

Run by the same office and people, but those are not in the instacheck system's numbers.

Different group of people. Instacheck handles the firearms related things; Ident (Identification) handles all things with fingerprints, to include the background checks. They are two different work groups within CBI.

As long as there are guns on Gunbroker, Armslist, etc. being sold that must be shipped, then background checks to transfer these must occur. I'm sure this adds significant numbers to the checks each day, even without any new guns on the store shelves.

A coworker picked up a Sig P226 last night. He had to wait 11 days for the BGC to complete.

In truth, I won't even get a chance to shoot it for ~3 weeks, but it would have been nice to fondle it a bit earlier. Anyways, it's not a big deal but it just frustrates me when I try to be the reasonable guy and then get the rough end.

And while the store did forget to call, ultimately I blame Colorado. My previous state (FL) had a 3-day wait unless you had a CCW. In that case, you could walk right out on the same day. The CBI in CO doesn't make any sense to me, but then again, I guess I'm preaching to the choir.

The 3 day wait is federal, but there's a catch: The wait doesn't start until the check has been processed and a DELAYED response has been received. CBI being too backed up to be able to enter your request for a week does not start the clock on the 3-day federal delay deadline.

The 3 day wait is federal...

Since when the hell has there been a federal 3-day wait?!? I want to see a link on that one. I've had a CWP for a number of years so maybe I missed it, but the last time I bought a firearm over the counter (and before I had the CWP), it was a 15 minute wait on the phone and I walked out the door. That was in the late 90's in AZ.

If there's a federal wait, why would they waive it for holders of state issued CWP?

Yeah, I definitely need to see a link for that one.

I believe he is referring to a three-day wait consisting of a three-day limit on the process. The dealer is able to provide your firearm if the federal background check is not completed within three-days. This is different than the Colorado system.

Well hate to break it to you sunshine, BUT there has been a few shootings in the past few months that riled up the empowered (in their minds) fed & state .govs. WHO (SURPRISE) have decided to enact another AWB. NY just cut the balls off gun owners, in case you missed that bit of news too.

After 8 days mine came back with "delayed Status" The shop owner said they had till Tuesday, to clear it or explain why its delayed. We even called and offered my social # in case that would help and they said it wouldn't

The 3-day I referred to is the 3-days delayed can proceed rule for NICS checks. Not a mandatory 3-day wait regardless.

Sorry for any confusion, but with our waits to SUBMIT checks running a week or more here in Colorado, the 3-day proceed has been of interest, and that was what I focused in on and thought you were asking about when I responded.

Okay, I'm with you now. No, that isn't what I was referring to. In FL, there's a 3-day wait (without CCW) to purchase. You walk in, fill out paperwork, pay your money and walk out. Three days later, you go back and pick up your purchase.

It took a month to get my new friendly looking 308 bolt gun in to my FFL, I filled out the form last nigh, he said 7-8 days. I have been patient this long might as well continue. I have no patience, not one of my virtues, but this has been a life altering experience for me and will be a better person now. [Coffee]
