Hi, All.

I'm thinking about adding a .357 magnum revolver to the collection and wanted to get your thoughts. I have fired and loved the 4" GP 100, what else is out there that is stout and heavy like the Ruger?

Colt lawman, Trooper S&W N & K frames. I saw a very nice ruger speed six but a little high price wise.

If you fired and loved the GP-100 then I say get a GP-100.

SP101 for a smaller heavy .357, but GP100 if you already have it.

I have shot a S&W in .38 and that thing had a great trigger, but I know they tend to be a bit more pricey. I see a nice looking border patrol for sale here but that is more than I want to spend.

GP100. Kick my self in the ass for getting rid of mine.

Try to find an older Md 27-2 S&W. The trigger is great and they are very accurate. Find a 5 inch and you will have a perfectly balanced shooter.

I have owned big N framed small bore .357's. Consider a S&W 625 in 45 ACP.
Moon clips and big bullets are nifty

If you want big and heavy look for a Ruger Redhawk in 357.

I know I am going to hear how bad these are but I picked up a Rossi 971 VRC 357 mag. Its 17 years old and less than 50 rounds threw it. 2 1/2" 6 shot ss adjustable rear site and ported barrel. The trigger was a little gritty but a quick polish job and it is smooth as glass. I think you can still find them for around $250/$300 in 4". I was told that Taurus bought Rossi several years back. I have a SP101 and a GP100 and a Smith 686. The Rossi holds its own with them all and a lot cheeper.

I know all the youngsters have to have a double action for fast reloads while doing tactical backflips, but I would highly encourage you to look at a Blackhawk. I really believe this line is the best handguns that Ruger makes. If you weren't raised shooting single action guns, they take some getting used to, but once you do, they point far more naturally than any DA, and these are going to be the strongest actions you'll find hands down.

This one is a convertible with one cylinder shooting .357 mag / .38 special, and the other 9mm.

ETA: While I don't mind .357 mag recoil in double action guns, the single action with big boomers like .44 mag mitigates recoil much better. The gun rolls in your hand instead of delivering the impulse straight up your arm. Food for thought.

S&W Model 28. It has a heavy N frame designed originally for the .44 magnum, with a .357 wheel and barrel. Was a mainstay for alot of law enforcement in the earlier days...

A 27 would be prettier, but yeah, I like N frame Smiths.

Rugers,...great revolvers. Solid.
It's a matter of money, as it is with a lot of things.
Sorry for the blasphemy, but, a Taurus 8 round .357 is a good solid piece.
If you can psychologically get past the fact that it is a Taurus. It can be blessed with
an entirely decent "Aftermarket" trigger job, and last many thousands of rounds.
My favorite however is the S&W 627 8 round 357. Big, Solid, reliable. Again, the factory
trigger requires a little massaging but once massaged is IMHO the best revolver trigger.
Thats considering equal massaging on any other as well.
One advantage of the Taurus is, if you handload and want to shoot "Bowling Pins"
OR for whatever reason want to load the infamous Texas 240gr semi wadcutter. That
bullet will fit in a stock Taurus Cylinder without deep seating, as it is ever so slightly
longer the the Smith.
