Well there's a brand new set of knobbies on my DR-Z and spring fever is hitting hard. Anybody interested in a dirt bike romp soon?
well yeah!,
I gotta put my bike back together though [Shy]
(I took the drive and rear apart to clean/service... should be able to do it in an afternoon (I stopped from last year when it got too freaking cold to be out in the garage)

Pulled my XR650 out the other day and it would start with the choke on, but then as soon as the choke went of it dies. Then it won't start at all. Drained all the gas and haven't messed with it in a week. Hope to put some fresh gas in and it will run. I've never had a problem with any of my XR's before.

Sound like you'll probably need to clean your carb and jets.

+1 this sounds like and was the solution when it happened to my DR

So clean your carb, put your drive train back together and let's hope the weather is nice next weekend. It will either be shooting, biking, or both!

Alright put some fresh gas in and it started right up. Gotta LOVE my XR's. Had to adjust the idle and was good to go. Rode it up and down the street a couple times. Sorry to those that don't appreciate a loud four stroke on Xanadu St. I did only make two passes. Wow am I rusty. I remember when I thought I needed more power and was wanting a big bore kit. All I needed was a couple years off instead, and maybe having a kid. Where's the first ride going to be?
Just hit me that I need to register it. I think I can buy it and get a temporary at the Honda by my house.
well, seeing how I messed myself up almost 2 weeks ago on the slopes,... I'm on the mend... and as long as the slopes are open, I'm spending free time there.. then after the slopes are closed, I'll be ready to ride....when I'm not in FL.

Well, I shot at the IDPA match out in Clear Creek yesterday and took my wife to Blackhawk for Mothers Day today. If the weather permits I'd be up for a ride next weekend. In fact, I'm thinking about an after work ride in the Rampart Range this week since I can get away early almost any day.

What kind of riding? dual sport, dirt only or MX?
Ive got a DR650 and a free schedule :)

I've got a Suzuki DR-Z400S and ride primarily on the fire roads and trails these days. I'm thinking of heading up to Rampart Range riding area this afternoon to see if it's not too muddy. If you're not familiar with it, it's the area on the north end of Rampart Range Road where it Tees into the road between Sedalia and Deckers.

I didn't go [snowboard] today, I will tomorrow though :D
right now, I'm heading out to the garage to work on my DR so I'll be ready soon as [snowboard] season finally ends (could be a while, I have season pass @ A-Basin) [Muaha]

That sounds like an awesome ride - and a bit more than I'm up to, especially this early in the season.
ok, back together... only a couple things left to do...
1. clean airfilter
2. might have to adjust a couple spacers on a chain guard.
3. rear brake might have to be bled... but it could just be me.... haven't ridden it since last fall.
other than that, it's all ready.
started up on the 2nd kick (as I would expect) and drove it up and down the alley a few times... can't wait to get on the trail again.

I'm going riding in the dirt somewhere this holiday weekend - it would be unpatriotic not to. Also planning to go shooting somewhere.
I'm up 100% now... when/ where? :D
anyone been to Waldorf Mine ? I Found it in a quide book and it looks interesting.

Where's Waldorf Mine?
It's supposed to be nice this weekend and I'm ready to branch out to different trails from Rampart Range.
outside of Georgetown
check google for a whole mess of scattered info about it.

I've been up Argentine Pass from the Georgetown side but not down the other side. A couple weeks ago, a buddy and I tried to drive up Guanella Pass but couldn't get more than a mile or so past the power station because of heavy snow pack. I'd bet getting over Argentine Pass would also be problematic but I'll ask him how Guanella Pass road is looking if he gets a chance this week. He lives in Georgetown.
I've also been up to an old mine from the Montezuma side but it wasn't on the Argentine Pass road. There's a lot of trails that come together in the Montezuma area, so even if we couldn't get too high we'd have a lot of ground to explore. Keystone is supposed to be mid 60s and sunny on Saturday, great riding weather.
Either side I'm up for a ride Saturday. Shall we do it?
right now, I'm a maybe for saturday... if there was a day.. that would be it.
I'll know more in the morning (thursday A.M.)
(going to see Rush @ Red Rocks thursday night and I have friday off) [Flower]
ok, other plans didn't work out so I'm good to go for a ride on Saturday [Coffee]
where do you want to meet and when ? (Send an IM)

We had a great day weather wise, but couldn't get too high because of snow banks. We tried St Johns, Webster Pass, and Deer Trail and could only get a couple miles up in each case. Pictures later, the minute I got back my wife took off in the car with the camera.
pulled the raw pictures off my camera and put them up for viewing:

had a good time, not as long as I would have liked, but hey, we wanted snow, and by gollie we got some!
what did you do today? [Muaha]
Anyone up for evening rides in Teller county? I like the trails just north and west of Woodland Park, or Rampart or Rainbow Falls.
I just got a new-to-me DR350 and am having all kinds of fun on it.
what year DR? mine's a '93 (I'm the original owner too) :)
thats a bit too far for an evening ride.. weekend maybe (?)

I was out on my knobbies too, but on my mtn bike. Made it down to Waterton Canyon for the first time, and explored a mountain or two on the Colorado Trail before it got dusky and I had to turn back. Great day - shooting all morning, riding all evening. :D
I thought about going to waterton this morning, but heck, I spent money on gas getting up into the mountains and back yesterday, I can get a ride in down here for 'free'.. I just got back from a 12 miler on my mtb.

Yeah I'm thinking of trying to go back out, although my legs are TRASHED, but it'd probably just be Hidden Mesa since I'm at the gf's in Parker and the weather looks a little sketch.
I only made it to the first creek crossing past Lenny's Rest, how far have you gone back at Waterton?

'95 here with an aftermarket dual sport kit to make it street legal. I'm suffering through some jetting problems at the moment, but hope to have them fixed tonight. New tires come tomorrow via the big brown toy box on wheels.
I'm way up for a weekend ride most any weekend as long as I'm not out on my other Suzuki, an '03 Bandit 1200. Yahoo!

Anybody up to try the high mountain passes again this weekend. 7IDL and I were stopped by a few snowbanks that might not have survived the week.
Saturday is out for me because of the IDPA shoot at CCCSC, but Sunday I'm planning to do something involving my Suzuki DR. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
I'm out this weekend..I have my daughter.... maybe next weekend?
Tim, that DR you have may be within the scope of my factory service manual, if you need anything looked up, lemme know!

Hopefully the passes will be open by next weekend so I'm up for it. But I'm still going to ride somewhere on Sunday.

Thanks, my bike came with a copy, too. I took it up to the local shop last night and we worked on it together for almost 3 hours. I might need one more change on the pilot jet, but otherwise it's running great now. I felt better because it had the local mechanic stumped for the first 2 1/2 hours of that time.
I'll probably ride the trails north and west of Woodland Park Saturday, Sunday or both if anyone is interested.
Phloater, we ought to do a road ride sometime. I'm not terribly fast, but I do love to get out and at least try to scrape my boots from time to time.
Anyone for this saturday? (21st)
eta: need to get an early start if I go.. I just saw my calendar and realized I have tix to see Robert Plant at Red Rocks that night at 8pm! :)

Not available on Saturday because I'm taking my wife and RV up to Breckenridge for the summer, but I'll already be up there for Sunday morning.
How about Sunday?
what time sunday?
I'll be getting up the day after the concert.. so not toooo early ;)

I'll already be up there so make it easy on yourself.
If we go to the same general area we could meet either at the Wendy's again or at the parking lot at the end of the road in Montezuma.
Hopefully this will be either my last or second to last ride with the stock clutch. I've ordered one of the Rekluse z-Start auto clutches. I've never gotten the hang of 2 stroke style clutch slipping in the kind of stuff we were in last time. All my racing was on 4 strokes back in the day.
are you talking about that parking lot where we talked to those two guys on MC's?
how's 11am sound?

Yep, right at the start of the last trail we tried to go up. Not the one where we parked last time. 11 am sounds fine. See you there.
had a good time... we actually got above timberline this time, although the first two trails we tried were still closed off by the USFS.

notes:
I had a tire blowout on my trailer on the way up (first picture)
at one of the mines, there was an old International 6cyl engine that was used to drive some equipment, note the "Eddison" sparkplug!
the small "town" in one of the pictures is "Montezuma"

this is from my GPS unit. shows where we were ;)

Since the last weekend ride with 7IDL, I've now got a real knobby ordered for the front of my DRZ400S and spent the weekend installing a Rekluse z-start clutch. I'm heading up to Tiger Run RV park in Breckenridge Wednesday night (hopefully with the new tire mounted). I'll check out the trails we weren't able to get up last weekend because they were still closed and let you know.
Assuming they are open now and anybody wants to ride next weekend after the 4th of July, let me know.
I might. depends on how this week goes.. (I'm on vacation) [Muaha]

Well Georgia Pass was open all the way. But we're getting a good soaking rain for the last four or five hours so all the trails will be wet and possibly muddy tomorrow. I'll check the trails in the morning but I'm not too optimistic after all the rain we just got.
That's the bad news, the good news is the z-start auto clutch works as advertised. Next week the new skid plate, case guards, Pirelli front tire, and Rekluse brake kit get put on. IDPA shoot on Saturday but hopefully Sunday will be a good day to ride.
well, too late for me to plan such a trip for tomorrow. maybe next weeked (?) I'll be in FL next week, but get back on Fri. and I may have other 'higher' priority items come up, won't know till next week.

Okay, I now have good knobbies front and rear. I'm planning to install the skip plate, radiator protectors, case guards, and Rekluse rear brake kit no later than Saturday and go riding!
Georgia pass was open last weekend so hopefully Webster will be open this weekend.
I've actually got a "date" this weekend, wish me luck [Muaha]

Well I got the skid plate and Unibiker radiator guards on but didn't have the energy to do the Rekluse brake kit. I did go 4 wheeling with my classmate up Deer Creek trail. It is now open. Also discovered that the road up to Argentine pass is also open. I'm off to Baltimore for three days but hoping to get the brake on before next weekend.
