View Full Version : Here's an idea for open carrying

We need a better way than just slinging your rifle across your back and walking into retail stores. One idea I had is why not wear a shirt that says "Please ask me why guns are safe" or something along those lines when doing a stunt like this? Same thing as picketers waving signs. I think it might take some of the "scary" away and let people approach you a little easier. You're not there to scare people. You're there to inform. Even take it one step further, let's print up gun facts on cards/flyers to hand out as people walk by.

Thoughts?

I believe guns are scary to the masses because they dont see them anymore and the media. I have seen a few cases recently that has led me to believe that if more people open carried and more old ladies saw it, less people would freak out. I am all for people responsibly open carrying hand guns, AR's are probably not a good idea. I would like to see more pickups with guns in the back window as well. Get people used to seeing them again.

I'm all for pickups with a populated gun rack and innocuous open carry to inoculate people to the sight of guns in public. By innocuous, I mean ease them into it with guns that clearly shouldn't frighten anyone or carried by someone who clearly isn't intimidating like Granny or Grandpa. Teenage boys just walking into a department or grocery store with a rifle slung on their back or Glock and 5 mags on their hip probably aren't going to help things in the immediate future.

I like it. I can even wear the shirt when I CCW.

When can I order my shirts?

Not a bad idea at all. I might have to steal that one if you don't mind.

I think guys in their late 20's-mid 30's who O/C should dress somewhat nicely... I've seen a few guys just in ratty old jeans and scummy teeshirt that I wouldn't want to ask for directions from. Now if they were wearing khakis and a polo and O/C then they might present a more "nice" appearance.

The only way to change any lefty mind is to take them shooting... just let them shoot off a couple rounds of .22 and then a 9mm and they'll have a big grin on their face... at that point, just continue to enforce safety and proper handling, training, etc, and they'll stew on it for a while.

No need to "steal" it, have at it! The more people that spread information, the better off we'll be. One of my customers runs a t-shirt business. I think we should work up some designs and see which one(s) we like best. Then I can get a price quote and we can get these running.
