That...was...AWESOME!
I was finally able to attend one of these matches and was not disappointed. Yeah I got there too early and found myself shoveling the snow, but man was it worth it. And it looks like I missed all that ski traffic too. It was smooth sailing all the way from Denver. Maybe being early isn't so bad after all.
The ROs I met there were super polite and very professional. That made the experience that much more positive. Everyone in the squad were really nice people as well. I enjoyed meeting you all!
Now I can't wait until next month...even knowing the CoF will be much more difficult than today!

I noticed that tomorrow's match is the Classifier. I'm not a member of IDPA. Can I still shoot it? I've shot IDPA and similar matches before.
If I MUST be a member, can I sign up before the match?
Absolutely, you may shoot. You just won't get the official IDPA ranking if you choose to shoot in an official match. By official match, I mean one that is a Regional/State championship or the like.
Man, this match was pretty rough. Every stage was all one handed. I did NOT like Stage 2 on the bridge; that one was rough. I'd actually like to do Stage 2 next month, but be able to shoot with both hands.
Sticks, which one are you? It seems like you are always there, but I have no idea who you are.

Agreed that it was super-rough.
But that's why I shoot IDPA - to find holes in my training, and to keep myself continually off-guard. Guess I know what I'm adding to practice time now.
I still have nightmares about a stage last year with a "buffet line" containing gangsters and no-shoots, with the shooter continually moving at the front. That one was fun.
Shooting strong hand only or weak hand only is not something I enjoy for sure. But it is like bitter medicine, you know it is important but sucks at the time.
I guess it's good being semi-ambidextrous. I think I did better relative to everyone else than ever before. Now, with even less slow! (but not much) Of course, what that probably really means is that there were more newbies than usual, is all. :D
I vote we re-shoot the "handcuffed prisoner transfer" stage next month with a Texas star on each side, just so I don't get any strange ideas that I'm improving. The bridge stage was very good because you had to shoot, move, and think all at the same time. I didn't like it though, because I had to shoot, move, and think all at the same time. I was just glad not to peg any no shoots on that one.
Based on Sticks' comments last month, he might be the long haired SO who had awful trouble with feed and ejection failures last month. I think we 3 were on the same squad last month, Irving...if that is your real name. ;) It's kind of hard to be sure, with a lot of folks not using real names.

Totally newb question but how do you get in on these shoots?
Totally newb question but how do you get in on these shoots?
Just show up. Simple as that.
First I'd browse the rules though to make sure you're equipment is okay. Even if you equipment doesn't follow the rules, you can still usually shoot. As long as your equipment is SAFE. No small of the back or shoulder holsters for example.
The website for this particular shoot is www.fridpa.com. Every second Saturday of the month at the Clear Creek range at exit 235 Dumont, off of I-70. It is a pretty good time.
Match results just came out, and I did better than I expected, and better than the June match. :)

I slept through last month's match. The only long haired SO that I can think of is the guy with the beret. Is that who you mean? I'm just now starting to recognize most of the SO's. This match I started out on the prisoner stage. I used to use my real name on here. You sound familiar. Which one are you Robert? When I put on tape, I put really long strips on my shirt. I often make a smiley face out of the tape.
No thanks to the one handed Texas star, yet.
Shooting strong hand only or weak hand only is not something I enjoy for sure. But it is like bitter medicine, you know it is important but sucks at the time.
I'd actually like to see more of it (maybe one stage per match). I know that when I did the classifier match in March, that was a weak point for me. I'd really like to classify in October.
Totally newb question but how do you get in on these shoots?

FRIDPA matches this time of year are a gamble on the weather. In years past I had complaints of cancelling the match when the weather on the range did not warrant it. Now we often make the Go/NoGo on the range because the weather forecast and traffic cameras don’t show the actual range conditions and many times we have a pocket of acceptable weather in which to hold a match. On match day I get there at 7am which is the start of Setup and if cancelled will wait till after 8am which is the start of the Match Conduct Safety Course to inform the new shooters; I will then drive home and update the website and send out emails. I started using the Decision During Setup two seasons ago for “ify” forecasts and this was the first time I cancelled a match. FRIDPA matches this time of year are a gamble on the weather, if there is rain/snow on the ground, windy and the temperatures are approaching freezing then I will cancel the match the preceding Friday night. When the forecast is “ify” I take the gamble and drive to the range on the outside chance we can hold a match.
If the complainers don’t want to take that gamble during the winter months then just stay home.
I really wanted to shoot the Postal Match to be able to compare where I am with IDPA as a whole instead of just our local bunch (are we better, worse, or statistically average? no idea) but ended up out at CRC for the other match instead, taking the "safe" choice. I really enjoy shooting IDPA with the crew in Clear Creek, but I didn't want to miss out on shooting for another month.
Not to be a complainer of course, but I think there are improvements that could be made to the notification on weather cancels. If the decision is made at 0700, then the message could be passed on and folks could re-evaluate their plans for the day accordingly. The potential methods would vary of course. A lot of people don't have smartphones or tote around laptops from which they could send the mail / update the site, but maybe calling someone who could do so would be helpful. Talking to a couple other guys who went to Byers instead of Dumont this morning, they mentioned NoCo has a phone number where they just change the voicemail message to indicate a cancel. There are probably a few other ways that would work too. I'm not trying to hassle Mick at all because he does a lot of work to put the show on for us and I appreciate it greatly, but the delay in being able to put the information out can be problematical, and putting our heads together we can probably come up with a process to prevent that.
Last time I shot IDPA at CCCSC, there was no side match. Do we know for sure that the rifle side match is on, or should I leave the carbine at home?
Take it with you. I dont know for sure if its on or not, but at least you will have it with you if there is time for the side match.

thank you to everyone who helped put on the IDPA match up at Clear Creek today. Was my first match of any kind, and I had a blast. I forgot to snap a pic of my scoresheet, but I think I did pretty well for a noob. My main goal for the day was to not make any safety type mistakes, and I did good there. I did shoot one hostage (he should have ducked) and shot a target out of order, but overall, pretty good. And my accuracy at least for the couple stages was WAY better than I expected. I'm sure I was slow, but that should improve with more matches.

With no USPSA match due to the weird month and no WPPS match, I may have to give IDPA a try.
Can I show up with my Production rig (XD) and shoot ESP? What do I need besides a cover garment?

this weather is really starting to piss me off... even when we have nice weather, seems to turn to crap just in time to screw up matches.
The www.fridpa.com website has a date for the match, but www.ecouspsa.com match schedule isn't showing anything for Clear Creek in December. Still a go at this time?
For the Front Range IDPA schedule please depend on our web site www.FRIDPA.com (http://www.FRIDPA.com).
Unless the weather gets much worse there is a match this Saturday, December 9th.

Had a great time at the IDPA match today. Decent size crowd. GL to Mick who was out of town at a competition. Lots of people stepped up and helped the match run smoothly in his absence.
Oh man, I was thinking there wasn't a match today, without consulting the calendar. Oops.

Hey Mick,
Joined so I can post here. I registered on Practiscore but I just saw this:
No Match Conduct Safety Course, no shooters new to FRIDPA
I'm a regular at ARPC and 5280, and I'm also a SO, but this would be my first time shooting up at Dumont. Is that an issue?

Hey Folks,
Clear Creek County has lifted its ban as has CCCSC, so the June 13th match is a GO!
Cheers,
Mick
From the CCCSC website (https://cccsclub.com/):
'The Clear Creek County commissioners have lifted the closure of the county roads as of May 28 at noon.
Non -county residents are now allowed use of clear Creek Co. roads and our members can now use them to get to the range.
Please remember that we are still in the Stage 1 Fire Ban, but we are allowed to shoot since we are a designated and exempt shooting range. We will close the range if the fire ban goes to Stage 2.'
Reminder - All FRIDPA Match Registration is Through Practiscore (https://practiscore.com/clubs/front_range_idpa_1/matches?filter=upcoming).
We will collect match fees and complete and distribute paper scoresheets at the range on match day.
But in August times will be a changing!

Hi Folks,
Match Cancelled - Clear Creek July 11th, 2020 - Match Cancelled
Clear Creek County declared a stage 2 fire ban (link below) and item 6 of banned activities states:
"6. Shooting (discharging of firearms of any kind)."
https://www.co.clear-creek.co.us/AlertCenter.aspx?AID=Temporary-Stage-2-Fire-Restrictions-55
CCCSC range website has not yet been updated but states:
"Please remember that we are still in the Stage 1 Fire Ban, but we are allowed to shoot since we are a designated and exempt shooting range. We will close the range if the fire ban goes to Stage 2."
Sorry, let's try again next month.
Cheers,
Mick

All Match Registration Is Through Practiscore (https://practiscore.com/clubs/front_range_idpa_1/matches?filter=upcoming).
Some shooters showed up at the match on July 19 expecting to register and were disappointed that they could not shoot.
So to clarify there is No match day walkup registration, All Match Registration Is Online Through Practiscore (https://practiscore.com/clubs/front_range_idpa_1/matches?filter=upcoming).
We will collect match fees at the range on match day.
Starting in August we will be scoring matches electronically using tablets and uploading the results to Practiscore (https://practiscore.com/clubs/front_range_idpa_1/matches?filter=upcoming).
The CCCSC range is still closed due to the Stage 2 Fire Ban but we are still allowing online registration via PractiScore (https://practiscore.com/clubs/front_range_idpa_1/matches?filter=upcoming) on the outside chance that the ban will be lifted before the match on Saturday, August 08, 2020. if you look on the practiscore page, it doesn't reflect a clear creek classifier, but the pike's peak match the following week is.
