View Full Version : Home Depot no longer offering military disount?
Has anyone else experienced this?
Shortly before Christmas, I was at the Home Depot over by Park Meadows, making a purchase. I pulled out my military ID, and was informed that they no longer give military discounts "except around the holidays." Nobody could tell me when this was enacted, or anything more specific than that.
The second week of January, I stopped in to see if it was a fluke, and the clerk gave me a military discount.
Yesterday, I stopped in and was informed again that there was no discount.
What the hell?

To me HD is a mess to go into.
Lowes always gives the discount. Even to us retiree's!

I go to Home Depot. Had to register with email and phone number. Now every time I purchase, I get an email with the receipt in it. I like it. Just ask to be registered into their computer. When you check out with a purchase, request .mil discount and then show ID card. They then ask for phone number...maybe it is different near you, but it works here in Pueblo. I'd call on the phone to make sure of policy though.

They SUCK!
They SUCK!
Care to elaborate? They have always given me the mil discount when I've asked. The poster above you also receives his discount. Now please expand on your statement.

You stepped up, put yourself in harms way in defense of our nation and freedom and you expect a discount on home improvement goods? Have you no shame good sir?
Thank you for your service and screw HD and all of their crummy anti American practices. I get better help at Ace anyway.
Registered with them two different times on the computer in two different Home Depots- and that was a real pain in the ass; their system seems to be constantly screwed up. Each time, the info was 'lost' or simply wasn't 'in the computer'. I value my privacy, and this makes me quite twitchy.
I've got my military ID on me at all times, and I'm beginning to see some real inconsistencies with this HD, as to whether the discount is honored or not. I'm glad to hear that other HDs are honoring it; I'm thinking it's simply time to start going to Lowe's instead.

Home Depot makes a point of giving vets and active duty military jobs and at least in the past has donated more to conservative political candidates than liberals. I shop at Lowe's more often but don't go along with the "screw HD" or calling them anti-American. Companies typically implement these policies due to insurance and liabilities, not because they're anti-American or even anti-2A.

Same here. I'll be checking with the Ft Collins HD this week though. If it's true, I'll go to Lowes from now on.

Honestly this and the anti second amendment thread on homedepot sound like employees of home depot making corporate decisions without approval.

Did a manager say no discount? My mom still gets a discount on account of my dad being in the Navy and I was with her multiple times between thanksgiving and Christmas where the discount was given

The first time it happened, the cashier called someone over to verify it. While we were waiting, another cashier drifted over and suggested that my cashier try to put it in manually. The person summoned to verify it stated that 'they' stopped giving the discount except for holidays.
I don't know. It could be cashiers simply making stuff up o the fly; as I said, I was able to get a discount after this example.
The inconsistencies make little sense. I wonder if it's a problem with this specific store.

Ah! No, I was not in harm's way (save for when the Turks were rioting.) I am a Cold War vet, and the closest I got to combat was packing up pallets for our troops for Operation Desert Shield. I am also not a 'good sir'- I was enlisted, and worked for a living!
