Although the surge in buying has been going on for a month now, the legislative pushes are now getting to the point that our voices really need to be heard now more than ever. Please, do not assume that because you wrote your politicians a month ago, you can rest easy, please write or call them DAILY. If you enjoy taking your guns to the range and shooting periodically, set aside just two minutes each day to write your representatives and let them know you will hold them accountable for their votes.
A friend back East sent me this sample letter today that I think he'd be fine if people copied. If you don't want to write your own, use this one and send it to every politician you can:
"Hello,
I am strongly opposed to an "assault weapons" ban and a ban limiting the capacity of magazines. I will not support either of these bans or any representative who does. It is argued that banning "high capacity" magazines and "assault weapons" is "common sense" if it would "save one life." This is not acceptable. I am not satisfied with saving just one life. Dozens more lives could be saved by keeping semi-automatic sporting rifles and their magazines in the hands of law abiding citizens, and increasing the number of armed security guards and volunteer teachers who have been given the proper training on the use of a firearm in schools and other public areas. If public safety is your concern like it is mine, you will vote against an "assault weapons" ban and a "high capacity" magazine ban.
