Probably a dupe, but I did not see it. We need to blow up the phone lines this week.
KUSA - U.S. Congresswoman Diana DeGette has introduced a bill to ban high-capacity magazines, even as State Representative Rhonda Fields has introduced similar legislation at the state level.
High-capacity magazines contain more than 10 rounds of ammunition and were used during the Aurora theater shooting and at Sandy Hook Elementary.
"We have got to address the extraordinary gun violence that threatens our society," DeGette said on Sunday during a press conference about gun control.
"We can never stop an imbalanced young man from going into an elementary school with a gun. But we sure as heck can stop him from having these 30-round magazines that can shoot a whole classroom full of first graders in just a matter of a couple of minutes," she added.
Fields announced Sunday that she is proposing similar state legislation.
"I wasn't able to save my son, because he was murdered. He was ambushed alongside his fiance, and I'm here to say enough is enough," Fields said.
Their goals were echoed by about a half dozen protestors outside the Tanner Gun Show Sunday, and refuted by some of the hundreds who flooded the gun show.
"Banning high-capacity magazines, banning certain individual types of weaponry, doesn't reduce safety. And in fact, what it really does is makes legal gun owners then criminals," said James Newton, a Fort Collins gun owner. "It's essentially about limiting individual freedoms."
Dudley Brown, with Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, says he doesn't think banning high-capacity magazines will make schools any safer.
He says he thinks the better solution is to arm teachers and parents and even some administrators to keep kids safe.
I saw this over on barfcom, first I heard of it. Thanks for posting this up.

This isn't a Colorado magazine ban being proposed, it's a national ban. I don't think the national ban will happen. You had me worried for a second.
I don't doubt that they'll try to ban high cap magazines in Colorado. As long as I have the metric shit ton of 30rd mags I ordered delivered first.......

then it's OK?
Not if they try to pull a California or New York on us.
So my 30 round mags are about to become a lot more profitable?

Might have to follow Bailey Guns to Idaho or something. This place is headed to hell in a handbag.

I forget, is a metric shit ton heavier or lighter than a short shit ton?

I suspect explaining the incident at VT to them really won't help matters.
"It will force them to stop shooting to change the 'clip' " "It would give people a chance to get away or intervene" All things we are going to hear, all things that they don't realize won't change the outcome.
...in the Aurora incident, more mag changes would have favored the shooter.

The mag ban is being introduced here as well.

South Carolina is starting to look nice.
So, if a state ban is enacted, would that mean that the 30 rd mags I have currently would be illegal, or would they be grandfathered in? Also, would I need to show proof that I bought them before the ban?
Or is this gonna be another NY state thing, where I must sell my mags out of state within a year...

Hard to say. We just need to make sure that NEITHER happens.

That last part is why the NY ban will be overturned. It affects interstate commerce, which is federal territory.

Wait until the bill is introduced before speculation. Outside myself very few here can read minds and or predict The future. I see yours is full of doubt regarding mag bans and AWB's in CO.

Man, I'm reading "Enemies Foreign and Domestic" right now and the parallels are pretty freaky. I'm only maybe 1/3 of the way through, but it's pretty scary.
Calling Rhonda Fields a moron is offensive and insulting.....to morons.
The only way this gets through is if we stop writing our state senators and reps. Time to ramp up.

My note to Ms Degette:
Dear Representative Degette,
As a professional in the firearms industry I find you and Representative Fields intititave laughable at best.
I would like an honest answer for only one simple question:
How do you feel that by controlling a mechanical device you can change human behaviors?
Your stance and proposal is ignorant, you will do absolutely nothing to deter criminals and deranged people from causing the harm they wish to cause.
Also I find your hypocracy deplorable, you claim that a magazine restriction will protect innocent lives and yet your voting record CLEARLY illustrates that you have voted a Pro Abortion stance nearly every time.
Just how does that work?
Your hypocracy is sickening Ms Degette.
Rest assured this next election cycle if you continue to pursue your ignorant attempt to infringe on the God given rights of the citizens of this State and Nation we SHALL pursue every avenue within lawfull means to see that you are replaced with an honest and non-hypocritical representative.
Don't you for a minute forget that WE THE PEOPLE elected you to represent us in a FAIR and OBJECTIVE manner.
Don't you for a minute forget WE THE PEOPLE will replace you with someone that will.

Of course that piece of garbage will be overturned . . . . but I would LOVE it if their 10 round limit was overturned along with it!!

Yeah... I hate to break it to you. But she didn't / won't read this. Some college intern does. Then sends out a mass canned email based on keywords... Then they hope for a recommendation.
