I finally have enough weapons that my wife wants me to put them in a safe but my house isn't big enough. Can I store them in a safe out in an unheated shed or will they end up rusting away.

Thanks for any advice (other than getting rid of my wife)

Umnn.... Safe yes... great idea(for the most part) Make sure to keep the defence ones out where you can get to them fast. Put the rest in the safe.

But putting guns in a safe outside the house is unacceptable in my opinion. Safes are easy to steal, and putting your guns anywhere without an alarm is a bad idea. I'd say do anything you can to keep them in the house.

"Will they end up rusting away?" Probably. "Thanks for any advice (other than getting rid of my wife)" Tell her your shed floor will never support the weight of a safe unless it's a concrete slab. Let her pick out the safe sense it was her idea in the first place. That way she'll be more protective of your investment and see how necessary it is to keep your guns close at hand and how important it is to keep your weapons stored in a controlled environment. A safe under the stairs or in the corner of your bedroom won't kill ya but, a safe outside just might cost you your life! Good luck.

unheated safe inside your house = ok (make sure they're (firearms) properly maintained (lubed) and kept away from high humidity locations (near the laundry area, hot water heater, etc..)

outside of your house = not a good idea.

I would put my wife outside before my guns.[Coffee][Rant2][Rant2]No, really I would. She wouldn't like it ,but Good guns are hard to get, women are a dime a dozen.[ROFL2]

Thanks for all your advice confirming what I already suspected...it is a bad idea. I'll just put the safe in my bedroom closet, on my side!

As for women, when my wife has no problem with my dropping another grand for guns, I say she is well worth keeping around.

i have plenty of room so just give them to me and i will take care of it.
i know you probably wont go for it.
tell your wife that at least you dont keep the harley in the house
i do, but my wife understands its expensive and we dont have a garage. we have a barn but it isnt nearly nice enough to store a harley in

1st. I have room for yours if you really need someplace safe...heheheh

To my point now..... get the safe and put inside, in time the wife will have cloths on it and then try to claim it anyway.....

p.s....if you let me store them for you I won't even charge you rent.....

There is always the option of locking up the actions and pistols in a smaller safe and storing the weapons somewhere else in the house.
Another idea is the safe that fits inside the wall. There are long gun versions and they could be hidden in storage areas behind mirrors ect. They tend to be small but its still an option.
I want a man-cave and I suppose the garage is it for me. The wife can have the house all I use in it is the toilet, computer and bed. (And I could fit all 3 in the damned garage and to hell with the woman!)
It is tempting... if you have a staircase and there is no storage underneath it, look at converting it into a conceled storage area. I used to have a friend who made a cabinet, mirroed the back wall and built in 2 thin safes to the false back. It was alot of work but there is no way someone could have found it. Think of the money you have in weapons and then think of how to hide them from being stolen. Suddenly spending 1k to protect 20 or 40k in weapons is pretty realistic.
Or, I will buy your excess weapons for say...$50.00 and solve the whole issue for ya![Muaha]

don't mount an in-wall unit in an exterior wall.. risk condensation and subsequent corrosion.
