View Full Version : Truck registration question
Anyone recently register an 04ish F150 Extended cab in Adams county? About how much did it cost? Going to buy one and would like to hear what I'm up against

I think most counties have an estimator on their website.
.45 percent. You can't use google or just thought it would be a interesting topic?

Why thanks for your help, haven't thought of that at all...
Rather than break out the excel spreadsheet and calculate using taxable value, plus RTD bullshit, plus the "Other mandated fees" (which, by the way, aren't detailed), I figured maybe someone out of the thousands of members here, could post up a round number.
Maybe I should just make back to back posts about civil wars in Syria.

I'd go through the extra effort of me being non lazy for you just being lazy but you didn't provide mileage which is a required field...
If you feel up to it. It requires about 4 clicks to get a good idea. But said 4 clicks are extremely hard. http://www.kbb.com/used-cars/#survey

Thanks for contributing 884 worthless posts to this forum.....[facepalm]
I probably would not have googled it either op. And congrats on the new truck!
My 1993 GMC truck costs me about $85 to register. Plus the e-test every other year.

They bang you on what the book is, not what you paid for it. Unless it's one off a lot Make sure it passes or has current emissions paperwork.

you have to pay sales tax on it. so, whereever you live times whatever you paid for it (minus your trade if you had one). So, if you are in unincorporated adams county figure probably 3% plus the 1% county plus the 1.25% RTD waste. Call it approximately 5%. That's a one time (only this time).
You need an E-test and the seller must provide one by law. If you didn't get one, go back and demand it.
Then it's a weight/value/year based thing so SUV's and fancy pickups get hit hard. (fuck Bill Ritter)
Probably $300/$400 plus the sales tax.

It will likely come off a lot.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Since I'm getting it from a lot, would I be correct in assuming sales tax is taken care if at purchase?
Sorry for being the registration noob, I've never registered anything in Colorado, have always registered in family member's name in TX.

Nope, not usually. sometimes they collect state (3%), but since they don't know where you live, etc, they don't collect it and it gets collected when you register. If you live in a city and not the county, figure about 8% total. some are higher.
DEMAND that they give you a passed emissions sheet. Don't let them bullshit you and give you the credit for the amount, if it fails, it's on you. Make them go do it, it's the law (that the seller must provide one) and they damn well know it, they just don't want to do it. If it's an out of state vehicle (doesn't have a Colorado title) Colorado requires a VIN check. Which is also fucking stupid and an additional tax on your time and money. I believe the emissions places can do it, I know state patrol offices can. Make the dealer do it.
You'll also need a driver license (no idea why, but they wont' do it without ID) and proof of insurance (even though they have a database and can run the VIN thru it to see, just try cancelling your insurance and see how fast they figure it out, lazy bastards).
Prepare to be really pissed. Colorado fucking RAPES you on car registration. And since it's obviously not going into the roads, it is a good question where all this money is going. It's more than double what it costs in Kali
go early in the month (first 10 days) and go in the morning. DO NOT go at the end of the month (for either emissions or plates) it's a damn zoo.
Even though you'll get temporary plates (60 days), those aren't free, if you go in on the 60th day, you'll get charged for the two preceding months also.
So, I ended up NOT getting the truck off a lot, but rather picked it up cash from a private seller in February. 06 F150 super crew. Paid $7700. It had a leaky exhaust manifold, so I took my time fixing that as well as doing some regular maintenance type stuff.
Fast forward to today. Left the DMV over $900 poorer. On a 7 year old used vehicle. I need a beer.

Are you gonna use the truck for business or just to drive around? I ask because it's cheaper for a recreational truck license rather than regular. The fucksticks at the DMV don't want you to know that!!
No business. Just tooling around, moving stuff, camping, etc

its not much cheaper for a 1/2 ton if at all, you don't get that big of break until the gvw gets up to around the 3/4-1 ton size. iirc they are no cheaper unless the truck weighs 6500# and then the savings goes up with the weight of the truck, fwiw my truck weighs 7900# empty and they were only going to be like $25.00 cheaper

Well, one of my NCOs just tested that theory and it was cheaper to him. A few bucks saved is better than nothing!!

saving 20 bucks off over a grand for plates is really not worth the rules imho, if they want to be pricks you can get a misuse of plates ticket for hauling trash to the dump.
