Well, this is it. The Spousal Unit and I are meeting with a Federal Firearms instructor to learn how to use our firearms, and to go to the range (DCF Guns, a truly excellent establishment) so we can receive our certificates and apply for our concealed carry permits.

I'm nervous and excited and hope that we have enough ammo for our various guns.

I realize this is very subjective in the "big deal" category, but we've made remarkable strides in the past few months, and I look forward to officially joining the ranks of the proud and responsible gun owners.

Enjoy and good on you for getting yourself and your wife proper training. You can never get enough IMO. Don't be nervous, just remember the rules of safely handling a gun and you'll be fine.

Thank you! But I am the wife. I'm the pushy one when it comes to guns. ;) My husband like the idea of firearms, but I'm the one with the bit between my teeth as to getting this done. Now he's on board and we're going to keep up our education.

Crazy props for stepping up and getting your man on board. I'm proud to see yet another woman join our ranks. My wife was really nervous when we took our course. She was active duty and trained to shoot in the military, but it had been many years since she'd handled a firearm. She did great of course despite her nerves. I hope your 'wife' (j/k) does as well.

P.S. - can anyone say, "I have enough ammo"?

Pardon me ma'am! It's not too often we see it happen this way, so I am thrilled to stand corrected!

No sweat, Sawin! I'm used to keeping a low profile until I'm comfortable with the forum, so there's no need for a pardon.
I'm learning a lot from this forum, and I greatly appreciate the time and welcome that has been extended by the members.

Great! Just great! I love hearing stories like this where people (especially those smart wives) get their spouses into firearms ownership and shooting... Good Luck with everything Grey- and just know there are a lot of us on here who are willing to help you and give any advice if you need it! [Beer]

Good for you! And your husband haha. Its good to see the new and inexperienced gun owners, as well as the experienced getting training. Their is no such thing as to much training or experience as long as its good training.

I remember my first class. I was overly nervous until I realized that I was with a bunch of other noobs and that I wasn't going to get laughed at. Enjoy the learning process and have fun.

Forgive me, but in your post when you said "I am the wife" I thought you meant that in a different context......[ROFL1]

By the way, what is a "Federal Firearms Instructor" ?

I was hoping nobody would pick up on my goof. Thanks a lot, eagleeyes. :P "Federal Firearms Instructor" is my mistake. I was multitasking, bouncing between screens while catching up on some work. My brain fused what I was working on with my thoughts of the upcoming firearms class.....and voila! Federal Firearms Instructor.

I think it's kind of catchy, myself. Someone should capitalize on that title.

Awesome! Glad to hear you got the "old man" on board. Good luck with your training.

Our CCW classes are averaging almost 50% women now. I think it's great.

If someone was a federal employee and is an agency firearms instructor, I believe they would be a federal firearms instructor. I think they have shirts for that [ROFL2]

Nice! You go through all the training and wait for the license to go through, then the first day you get to legally CCW is well worth all the work. I remember that gut feeling that everyone knows you have a gun, or that they can see it from a mile away... but they cannot, and as time passes you will grow so used to having it that you feel weird without it. Sorta like if you wear a wristwatch every day of your life and one day you forget it. Glad you got your husband on board, now whip him into shape and show him how to shoot!
