Cartridge and Archery Equipment Regulations Liberalized for Big Game, Trophy Game and Turkey

http://wgfd.wyo.gov/web2011/news-1001268.aspx (http://wgfd.wyo.gov/web2011/news-1001268.aspx)

just came out 1-28-2013. A big FU to the Feds. Yes you can hunt with the evil assault rifle. At least in the FREE STATE of WYOMING.
have to use at least 60 gn bullet.

• For deer, antelope, mountain lion, and gray wolf, the major change is the addition of .22 centerfire cartridges as legal ammunition. For the taking of deer, antelope, mountain lions, and gray wolves in areas where they are designated as trophy game, hunters can use any centerfire firearm of at least .22 caliber, using a cartridge at least two inches long and firing a bullet of at least 60 grains.

They still do not allow suppressed for hunting, go figure.

We currently have a state bill trying to legalize this. I emailed my local senator and representative but haven't gotten any reply :/ I'm really hoping it passes though

Yeah, figured I'd piss some traditionalists off. And take advantage of the fact that Wyoming has no magazine capacity laws for hunting (I've even met several Wyoming residents who don't believe me). I think my 3gun AR will work pretty well for hunting purposes, and even be a couple pounds lighter than the FAL.

hope they can get the suppressors legal, because it is Soooooooo nice to shoot/hunt suppressed. It's amazing that Colo. is "ahead" of WY. in both of these regards. The use of the AR15 for hunting AND the use of suppressors.

I'm about halfway through my wait on a .22 can and scouting for a SWR Octane 9 HD. If this bill passes for WY then my wallet will really hate me because I'll have to get a .223 suppressor. [AR15]

i dont think you can hunt big game in this state with a caliber of .223. thats the point Wyoming will now let you. Colorado isnt ahead in that. Yes, you have allways been able to hunt varmints with a .223. But, not big game.

From the Colorado DoW

"Rifles using center fire cartridges of .24 caliber or larger, having expanding bullets of at least seventy (70) grains in weight, except for elk and moose where the minimum bullet weight is eighty-five (85) grains, and with a rated impact energy one hundred (100) yards from the muzzle of at least one thousand (1000) foot pounds as determined by the manufacturer's rating providing that any semiautomatic rifle used shall not hold more than six (6) rounds in the magazine and chamber combined. well, since AR15's come in other calibers other than .223, it is certainy legal to use them in Colo. for big game. Just gotta use 5 rd. magazines. This is one of several speed goats that I've taken with my Ar15 .243 wssm.

yes, if you read my first post, I acknowledged that. I even title the thread that way. reading is key. i also have a 308 ar. That was clearly not the intention. You can hunt with a .308 AR about anywhere that you can use a rifle to hunt.

It's just that I never mentioned .223, only that we were ahead in the use of the "AR" for hunting big game. You brought up the caliber, so I was just affirming that we can use an AR, just has to meet the 6 mm min. for big game, and use 5 round mags. Since you phrased my words, I thought I'd point out that I was not wrong, I just didn't include the caliber restrictions, and you have. We're both right.....

Not sure I'd want to use a .223 round for deer. I would think the .22 caliber limit was to include the .22-250 round that has a little more impact energy than a .223 round.

Plus one more on that .243 wssm AR. I'd love to head down to TX with that for my next boar hunt.

If you're close enough then it's all about shot placement. I know several people who have taken down deer with a .22 mag.

Disclaimer: I wasn't there, I have never attempted this, and yes I realize it would be very illegal in WY and probably CO too.
