Starting this thread with mod approval, inspired by a similar idea on another board, to report lost or stolen firearms so we have a little warning before snapping up a great deal.

20 May, Ruger SP101 .357 stolen in Arvada, serial number 572-08225

picture (http://lh5.ggpht.com/wyzardd/RoLfSBeyf2I/AAAAAAAAAjc/-kQvVuQKTC4/sp1012.jpg?imgmax=512)

I honestly don't expect to see this one again but since I occasionally buy FTF, I'd sure like to know that I'm not buying one of yours without your knowledge.

Thanks everyone,
Bob

How'd it get stolen?

wyzardd
05-26-2008, 17:53
I left it locked in my center console overnight, car doors were locked but I left the windows cracked (maybe a bit too much), next morning the console lid was torn off (I figure the lock held ok, but the dang hinge was plastic)

Car was pretty well trashed, but the only things of value that were missing was the Ruger and a tin full of loose change. No damage aside from the console.

Sounds to me like someone who knew your gun was there...who's gonna smash into a car for a handful of change?

If you recive the newspaper, have milk delivered or any other real early morning deliveries, look at those people. Also, kids in the neighborhood.
The kind of person who breaks into cars are kids. Adults dont do it unless its to steal the car/truck. Kids do it as its an easy crime, they only get thier hands slapped for it. I might even talk to a cop and discuss them talking to any up and comming new criminal kids in the neighborhood. Only a kid looking to climb the criminal ladder is going to take a weapon from a car.
I have some older Ih trucks and some dont lock. When I lived in Arvada, about every 2-3 months,I would find it gone through and usually a door wide open(hard to close) I knew a local kid was doing it but proving it was a different story. Consider baiting the car with an empty cd case book left out in the open and a camera on the car. I bet you get lucky after a few nights.

Steyr S40 (serial no. 022652)

Stolen during a real estate inspection August 2006 in Colorado Springs.

At first I suspected the buyer's realtor but now I think it was the inspector, who also happens to also be a CS Firefighter (so of course nothing was done about it). Also stolen were several prescription painkillers.

You filed a report and nothing was done? I would consider contacting the ATF.I bet they care enough to go find out and maybe they can recover the weapon. If 2 people were invited into the home and the weapon goes missing,I can't belive the cops cant figure out how to find it.

We all should learn not to leave a firearm in the car overnight from this.

Yeah, I admit that was rather boneheaded of me.

The three silencers were in a case and a bag left on a bench during a cease fire for lunch at a private range with the only people there being the range owner and a group of fellow students from my school. After lunch I finished packing up, put everything in the truck and went home - unpacking held the nasty discovery of missing items.

After that, I called and asked the folks who were at the range longer if I had simply left them there by accident - no luck, and no one is talking. [Bang]

Welcome to the forum. I would let those at the school know that whom ever took them is going to prision if they get caught. You would get less prision time for stealing a car than a NFA item.

Who ever the moron is I bet does not understand they are in possession of an unregistered NFA item. Up to ten years in club fed and up to a 250k fine. Have you contacted ATF and local law enforcement?

It's a sad state of affairs when, in a controlled situation like that, you still have to have everything locked up and bolted down to keep it from growing legs.

School now has a post on the "for sale" board titled "STOLEN SILENCERS" and the staff will be asking around. BATFE didn't want to talk to me until I have the police report in hand, and local law has already been notified.

I hope it all works out. it really makes you think about how some people act when no one is looking. I have been to several 3 gun matches that are all day events, and people (including me) just leave there guns and gun bags sitting by the bench or a car or the back of the truck, never did I think about my stuff walking off. the people that attend these events are always the nicest and most honest people. Good tread to have around. Quick story: I found it amazing that the local PD didn't seem to care much about my firearm theft when reported. Funny thing too, is the weapon was recovered - in Glendale AZ under the seat of a car load of gang bangers. Nobody was prosecuted for anything and my gun was returned to the local PD for pickup. My poor Sig 226 was trashed. Never did want that gun around much after having it cleaned up and fixed. Didn't know how many people it had shot at since leaving the denver area... But there is hope of recovery... kc.

Posting for a friend that many of us have competed with for years in IPSC, GSSF matches, etc. Otto (the GSSF in CO MD for quite some time) had a Glock 24 that was misplaced or stolen.
For those of you that have run a major match before, things can get pretty nutty with all the running around. So, folks are on the look out for it at the Weld County range in case it ended up in one of the shooting sheds.

But, just in case that it actually walked away, we'd appreciate folks keeping an eye out for it.

Glock Model 24, Serial Num: BNZ204US, Barrel Serial Num: L7946
(This is a 1stGen G24, but with the 2ndGen ported barrel; also has a very distinctive brass mag well). It was in a pistol run with 4 mags.

If anyone sees/hears anything, I would appreciate you contacting me and I'll get the info to Otto.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

How would one go about checking if a firearm bought in a private deal was stolen? I recently bought a pistol private party sale, while I don't think it is a stolen firearm, I would like to be assured that it is not.
Any ideas?

I tried 3 websites, hotgunz.com, stolenweapons.com, and firearmfax.com. Useless websites. Let me explain. I searched the serial number on all three,( had to pay for firearmfax.com) All three came back as no record, not stolen. I called the Popo's like Mx'r suggested, after giving the Lady on the phone the serial number, she said she couldn't do this over the phone, and sent two officers to the house, because it came back as a positive hit for a stolen firearm.
The gun was not stolen as it turns out, but the websites failed to catch the straight serial number search. My keltec p3at has the same serial number as a stolen .380 auto from 1972 in Houston. obviously keltec was not made in 1972, so the gun is not stolen. Don't trust these websites as they do not have access to NCIC.

Actually, having it a sticky is a good idea. It makes it easy to find, if a member comes across another member's stolen gun for instance.

I have a list of them, I will edit this once I can get home and get the list. House in Aurora got "broken into", soon after I came back from the desert to a basically empty house that my soon-to-be-ex-wife relieved me of everything inside of it, except for things that are trackable (guns). Nothing was stolen in the house except for the guns out of a safe that I did not have a key to (that was mysteriously missing before I got home from deployment). As usual Aurora, PD did not care.

Just got home after dealing with the Denver PD. My truck was broken into in the lot across the street from Perfromance Cycle on Broadway this evening

4/3/2013 between 6:30 and 8:00 PM

Stolen was a Sig Sauer P238 Stainless slide, black frame, Sig Sauer factory Laser on the trigger gaurd and Hogue Rubber grips in a Desantis Nemesis Holster, they only got one of the OEM mags as the other was in my pocket where the gun should have been. [Mad] But since they only come with one that's not a dead giveaway.

Serial # is 27A089484

Also stolen was a laptop and the backpack it was in, 2 credit cards, and a bunch of membership cards ect. They also have things in there with my home address and they stole the keys to my other truck and that ring had a house key on it. I have a security system and have notified local PD, but who knows. The CC's have been shut off, and reported so that's not much concern.

If you spot it please PM me and call Denver PD district 4 @ 720-913-0279

So if you want to advertise NRA at least take your guns out . Thieves aren't stupid. Especially if your advertising.

That is why this forum's stickers are firearms neutral. And this is the subject of multiple threads...... I'm not ragging on you. [Awesom]

I've always thought that but have not read any previous threads about it.

Just one more reason that I don't advertise for anybody on my vehicle and I don't leave crap in there anyway. I'll hang stickers on my personal stuff at work or home but not on my vehicle that I drive around and leave parked unattended somewhere. The same kind of thing happens to military folks, hence why they moved away from DoD base stickers. And coming from Hawaii I can tell you first hand that I personally knew locals that would target cards with the barcode sticker in the rear and front windows, that meant it was a rental car and a 99.9% chance that you were a tourist.

A friend & coworker returned home from vacation to find his home had been burglarized.

Sometime within the last 2 weeks his apartment was burglarized and a BRAND NEW (never fired/handled) S&W M&P .40S&W 2-Tone was taken. S/N: HUR5797. The thief/thieves did not take the box or other documentation - just the firearm and magazines (possibly other accessories inside the box).

At least one of the burglars is known, but currently on the run - he broke into & stayed in my friends home the entire time he was out of town. The known thief goes by many names, but a couple of them are Richard Baez and Richard Marinda. If you know/have contact with this individual or see a firearm matching this description, please contact the El Paso County Sheriff's Office; Reference Case # EP15102131.

Many other items were also stolen to include a Benjamin Pellet rifle S/N: 241557 (2 pics attached)

Keep an eye out please, vehicle was broken into and lost some stuff, mainly an M&P 45 serial # DXF6765. It's black, 5" threaded barrel, 10-8 sights ( front is a gold bead, rear is a blacked out u notch), frame and grip have been stippled, 10 rd and 14 rd mags with 10-8 base plates, APEX forward set sear trigger kit. Also lost an Eberlestock cherry bomb pack in military green and urban grey, and a Strider BT SS with sheath and olive cord wrap. An Edge CTS insight was taken as well, those were the big items that would be easy to ID. Would appreciate anyone keeping an extra eye for any of that stuff! Police report already filed. Thanks

Was stolen with one 6 round magazine and about 200 rounds of 7.5x55 Swiss ammo

If anyone happens to see one running around let me know. Thanks guys.

In Trinidad between 8 am and 12 today, at the Fire Station some one broke into my truck and stole a Smith and Wesson 2nd model .38 s&w that is in poor condition. It has either no grips on unfinished white bone grips clamped on it. Serial number is in the 70k range, work on exact as this was a customers gun. It was in a leather holster handmade cross draw with J W S stamped on the back of it. They had to dig through my box to find it, passed up half a dozen custom knives to find it.

It is basically this revolver with a lot less nickel finish left.

Half or more of last few pages are guns left in vehicles. Whyyyy are these being left in porbably the most likely place to be burgled.

Stupidity is my reason. I got home late last night, had my hands and arms full of crap going into the house and forgot about it. Woke up this morning realizing I left it in the truck all night thinking "it should be fine." The one time I forgot it, it got swiped.

That's crazy that it happened the one night you left it. That's some bad luck.

Bad luck or a neighbous kid who has seen you several times as you remove your piece from the car? Anyone else hit on the block?

It always seems to happen that way doesn't it? Lesson learned.

When the detective and officer arrived a lady walked up and asked what was going on. I told her my truck was broke into and some items were stolen. She then said "Oh well mine was broken into last night too, I just never called it in." The officer asked why and she said "because nothing was taken so no reason to call it in." Her and I are the only two that I know of but it sounded like they were more in our complex.

There have been an influx of car break-in's in my area too. Few weeks ago, 20 some cars got hit. There has also been some cars stolen in my area too lately. The migration to Colorado has it's downsides.

I'll keep my eye out for you. I hope they find it.

Thank you! I am hoping they picked up the scum bags last night somewhere and have it but wish in one hand and shit in the other. Now I have to find another G19 Gen4 in OD so I can complete my 9mm glock collection again.

Resurrecting this as it crossed my mind today. No luck in returning my glock but what is the process? Will they notify me once they find it? Any benefit in calling in and checking status on my case number?

They will contact you. Personal experience unfortunately.

You won't get it back until the case is closed, which includes exhausting appeals if they dont plead guilty.

Zombie thread. Maybe one of them stole my Sig.

Sig Sauer Sig Pro SP2022 9mm

Serial#: 24B114964

Had a TLR-1 weapon light mounted to the rail Also taken 2x 15 round mags that were in the driver door pocket.

Stolen from my truck some time between 10-26-20 and 11-5-20. Based on circumstances I won't go into, I believe it was jacked 11-5-20 but hadn't actually put eyes on it since deer hunting. Yea, Mea culpa, it's a truck/pack gun and I forgot to take it out of the center console after getting back.

It's been reported to DougCo Sheriff and at least it hasn't killed someone yet.
