Anybody have a guess what these are? 166gr, .451 I pulled these a while back from some reloads I got from a family friend and I am trying to ID the bullets.20745

Hard to tell from the picture but they resemble Federal Hydrashocks. You sure those were reloads?

They are not the "HydraShok" bullets, for the life of me I cannot recall the manufacturer that came out with these when Federal Hydrashoks were at their peak of popularity. Maybe one of the older "Old Farts" of reloading will be having a good day and will be able to recall what the manufacturer and stlye was.

The HydraShoks have more space around the center post and have 6 cuts/creases in the copper jacket around the opening causing the hole to appear to almost have a hexagonal opening.

I am not positive they are reloads. They came from my dads friend in a box of mixed reload/factory 243 (which is collecting dust), I assumed at the time from the bullet/brass/primer combo they were reloads. I don't remember what brass they were in though?

Sure look like Hydra-Shok bullets to me. I don't recall there ever being a knock-off bullet, but I may not be having a good memory day. [facepalm]

Federal did produce a 165 Hydra-Shok. It would have been in a nickel case.

I don't recall Federal selling Hydrashoks as reloading components and I don't recall a knock off bullet either. Granted, those don't exactly match in the cavity/post configuration but I can't tell since the photo is not that sharp.
