I just had a friend who got their Basic Pistol certification a week back tell me that they called the El Paso Sheriff's dept to schedule an appt to come in and apply for the CHP/CCW and were told they are booked clear out to June. They don't even get to apply until then. Has anyone else heard of a situation like this outside of Denver/Adams/Arapahoe? Or has this become the new norm?
You don't make an appointment for Arapahoe county, so they do not have this issue as you stated.

It was a 1-2 month wait "pre-panic" so I can see it being 5 months now. At least the sheriff here is gun friendly.
douglas county was at a 4 hour wait to.submit then 8-10 weeks

So, does Colorado not have a law that the certification must be taken within 30 days of the application? Because New Mexico does and there'd be no way to get an appointment and have a valid certification of training. Jeez, good luck being patient for that wait!

Nope. I think as long as you had training withing the past 10 years your good.

Ah, well thats good! But the wait still sucks! Thats almost like having to wait for a tax stamp to come back, not like I'd know, but from what I hear.
Just a heads up everybody..
I called saturday and left a voicemail, got a call back a few minutes ago. I now have an appointment in two weeks ;)
The lady said they did some reshuffling and opened up a lot of slots. I'm military but made no mention of that in the voicemail, so i didn't get special treatment.

Was that in El Paso County or somewhere else? If it's El Paso then I'll recommend that my friend do the same!

Yeah certificates are good from 10 years after date of issue...... and renewals are usually good for five so one certificate will last ya through the first and second application stage. But yes, the waiting sucks.....

Damn, Glad I already got mine last year. It took 16 days from going down to apply to having it in my hand.

Hey thanks again for the heads up. My friend called the sheriff's office back and got bumped up to the beginning of March, rather than the middle of June. Much improved!

Wow. I got my renewal letter in early January, called a couple weeks ago to schedule an appointment, get to see them (EPSO) in a couple weeks.
