View Full Version : What is wrong with People
Woke up to this gem of a gift from some jackass. Near as I can tell, someone shot out the car window with a Pellet or BB Gun, no damage besides the window but shards of glass made it into the inside door handle across the car. If it were anything bigger, even a .22 I think I would have found damage from after the projectile went through the window. It was a perfect small puncture hole, with the rest of the glass spidered out and shattered, but remaining in place. Opening and closing the passenger door to get the registration for the police report knocked out the rest of the open area you can see.
Filed a report with the police, and called around to find the best cash rate to have it replaced. I found a place with great Yelp reviews that will clean out the mess from the old window and replace it at my house for $180.00, which is WAY better than I was expecting. I feel like a jackass from not cleaning up my project in the garage to pull the car in last night, but leaving a car in your driveway shouldn't be an invitation to shoot out a window.

Did ya piss anyone off lately? I would guess it was from a steel BB. Steel BBs will shatter glass, A lead pellet would have made a hole without shattering the glass.

Some people's children. Had someone smash my old truck's driver's side window when we lived in MD. Reported it to the police but nothing ever came of it. [Rant1]

This happens all the time. Kids and BB guns going around destroying other people's property.

Negative. We get along great with all of our neighbors. Nobody outside of our neighbor that I can think of has been pissed of by either myself or my wife.
We live on the corner of a culdesac, on a fairly busy road. The side that was shot out was the same side as the busy road. I think it was just some punks thinking it would be funny to damage some property while driving down the main road of the neighborhood.
If only you caught them in the act...

Ahh life in the big city. Had my car broken into in FortLauderdale. Tires slashed in Colorado Springs. Nothing has happened to me yet in Pueblo West. First neighborhood I ever lived in that has its own shooting range...

Was there any other windows shot out in your neighborhood?

No clue. I got a card from the officer that filed the report, I may call her later and check on that. Our neighborhood doesn't have too many cars that are left out of garages, so it might not mean anything anyways, but that is a good idea to check on.

Yup. Completely random. Happens a lot too.
I feel your pain. 3 days after I bought my truck I was at a bar where I knew no one to watch a UFC. When I came out someone had ripped the antenna off and punched in the passenger side fender. It took me a month to get over it.

That sucks man. My work van sits outside my house. Jacked my wireless printer worth about $30 at the pawn shop. Happened 2 weeks ago.

Also notice the iPad charger and gas card left un disturbed. Police took a report over the phone.
Must have been a slow morning, and had a patrol officer nearby. Police were here in less than 4 minutes.
Had some other things I've reported here at night, took them 30-40 to get here. I don't blame em, none of them have been emergencies, so I'm fine with them getting here when they get here. Just surprised how quick they showed up today.
Yup.. People suck. Had my Barracks room broken into 2 weeks ago and had about $5k worth of stuff stolen. MP's didn't even bother with fingerprinting :/
Damn! You would think that would be one of the safest places! Don't they have cameras everywhere on base? I wouldn't know, being a lifelong Civy.
It really bothers me that there isn't much to be done... My motorcycle was stolen from my apartment complex back in '06. Arvada PD came, took down a report, and a few weeks later it was recovered, totaled, out SE of Parker... nothing came of it, and nothing much could be done. The Parker PD officer told me that since the property was recovered there was nothing else that could be done. Next bike I own I'm putting a 2-way alarm on it...
J- that sucks what happened, glad it's not too terribly expensive to fix. Even though it still is infuriating that some asshat is forcing you to have to spend money. It would be great if it came back around to these punks shortly thereafter, but Karma sometimes moves too slow, though.
I be Its damn kids. I had my fj's broke into twice in a 3 month span when I lived off of 100th and wads. Little bastards.

Not in the service brother. Outside my house. Hopefully I didn't do anything to elude to that fallacy.

You would think they would.. But no. Not a security camera anywhere near the barracks.

That sucks. Stuff like that pisses me off to no end.

I had my barracks room broken into when I was at Hood. People in the service are no better than anywhere else you go. There's still a good amount of crime. You would think there would be less, but there isn't.

I am in Capitol Hill, and there is safety glass all over the street from people's side windows being busted out. It seems like one out of ten cars has plastic and duct tape replacing a window. LOTS of smash and grabs here.
A small rock/pebble will do that.. I used to mow lawns for a business years ago.. ask me how I know a flying projectile of many kinds can shatter a window like that. :) Could have been a rock coming off of someones tire as they were making that curve in the pic.
No... If you actually saw the landscape, you would know it wasn't that. I'm an accomplished engineer. I know dynamic motion, it wasn't a rock. Wish it was, but wasn't.
My (now ex-) wife pissed off some of our neighbors once. The neighbors were assholes. Took their pit bulls out on walks without leashes in a community with a lot of young kids. Guy worked on his car all day on blocks in front of the house, in violation of covenants, got pissy when we complained. Asshole in general - those are just a couple of items to point out. I could never prove it was them, but they keyed my car (like $2k worth of repairs keyed it). Then, I was driving another car and it started to overheat, so I pulled over. Had it towed to repair shop. Someone had cut through the radiator hose with a knife.
This was in a pretty nice townhome complex in Virginia. We moved out of there shortly afterwards. Still makes me angry to think about it, but I'm not a revengy kind of guy.

i've been debating about putting up a video recording system...i guess i should get off my ass since i got some punks living up the road from me...I recommend you do the same.
My girlfriend saw a guy walking down the street getting into peoples cars at 1 am. She came in and woke me up and told me what he looked like and it definitely was not my neighbor so I called the PD. They got there in about 10 minutes and stopped a guy down the street. Turns out it was not the same guy, but this guy had drugs on him so they arrested him. The other guy was not found. I live in a pretty nice quiet neighborhood in a smaller town, so if it is this bad for me I cant imagine living in Denver like some of you.
It is worse on military bases, it is not all .mil on them and they know when you are away on deployment. In the Navy it was almost a game walking back to your car after deployment. 30% had been broken into with their window smashed out in Seattle rain for 7 to 9 months.

A lot of soldiers are thieves too. It is a real problem on some bases.
sucks but random.
have seen windows broken for a pack of smokes sitting on the dash.
Sorry J. Sarah's Land Cruiser was broken into last year at Fort Collins outside her apartment. They left the craftsman tools and Ham radio and took some little bs stuff. Not very smart theives. If she would have seen them she would have used her Katana on them. Hadn't had your great class yet :D

I've kept 5 gallons of gas, $150 in tools and emergency equipment in the back of my truck for the last 5 years, and its never even been touched. I've lived in CC Denver the whole time. Crazy world where I get away with that bs and you can't park outside, J.
At least it wasn't the bimmer...?
Yeah. That is true. It never sits outside. And in the winter it doesn't get much mileage, take the ol truck most places. Wonder if all the methanol has evaporated out of it yet, lol.
