CIF in Ft. Leonard Wood says I never gave back any of my shit from AIT... We weren't allowed to leave AIT unless we cleared CIF. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up my CIF record last month doing a gear check...

Fuckers.

No one likes CIF, if you did you would refuse retirement and be a 95yr old Sgt Maj.

I'm trying to clear and they are telling me I still owe them two large green plates, which I turned into them 18 months ago, received the paperwork, then gave it to supply.

I wish I would have kept a copy of that. Unit won't do a FLIPL.

I also ended up with the wrong black plates by some unknown reason and now have smalls when I need larges to turn into OCIE. That ones all on me though.

Benning did that! 7 years after jump school I still had a pistol belt and some canteens on my record but that was easily sorted out.

Really. You one funny guy. [LOL][ROFL1] Now in my case I would never be in a situation that you could file one but I know some that have had many complaints filed and nothing ever came from it. Just saying. And filing a complaint on a CIF worker because your sheet says you have a large and you are trying to turn in a small goes nowhere.

Now I do feel for you because I think everyone has been had by CIF. I just gave one of my troops a couple of items that he could not find and I remember when I was given 2 left straps and had to buy a right to clear even though nothing ever came out of the bag. [Rant2]But coming on here with all the members that have BTDT saying a few ICE forms will get them fired is downright funny. Kind of like saying that if I bitch to your SGM that you will get an article 15. Just saying again.[Flower]

And BTW we have a few 4th ID people in high places here. They might chime in but you can spot them on post because they have the sticker that shall not be mentioned in there rear window while parked in the reserved parking spots. [pick-me]

I hated CIF too, and how everything was still dirty no matter how clean it actually was. My old room mate and I took our stuff down to the car wash and hit everything with a pressure washer. We cleared CIF first time go....haha

I got the manager of a CIF in Germany fired last year. So yes, it does work. When You bring your complete RFI issue in for turn in, still in bags with tags on everything (I had two RFI's for one deployment.. OCP & UCP), and your told it's dirty and needs to be cleaned you get pretty livid. I refused. He threatened to charge me for everything. Then all 44 in my unit filled out ICE cards. He was gone a week and half later. It does work. (99% of my unit had everything still in original bags)

Good thing I'm not a 4ID lemming, otherwise i'd have no balls to back my stripes. I'm generally prepared for war when i go to CIF.

CIF - Consolidated Issuing Facility

Since nobody's bothered to explain yet. CIF is the Central Issue Facility on an Army post, the warehouse where all your gear is stored and issued from. They are generally staffed by one of the lowest forms of life known to man: DOD civilian employees that exist solely to make troops miserable. They range from nitpicky as hell to outright ridiculous, and most will jump in your ass in a heartbeat if your stuff isn't perfectly squared away when you turn it in. The most common thing is them griping that something is dirty, even if it's still new with tags or hasn't been touched since you drew it, and other forms of ridiculousness are common. Any other vets, feel free to chime in if I missed anything.

I'm an Army Logistician. I deal with all the folks at CIF on a weekly basis. It's easy once you figure out the ins and outs.

I really don't like going there. They still think I'm a 95c10.

I agree that there are a few folks on this board might be pretty high up the food chain. Just sayin'.

As noted earlier, just make sure you keep copies of the documentation that says you turned it in. Always remember; When it comes to government, if it's not documented properly, it never happened. (This applies to medical issues too).

Stuck at Benning for an extra week while they sort it out.

A few months before I cleared Ft Hood back in 99 the III Corps CSM had heard so much about how bad CIF was to clear he had his driver show up with new orders and get a regular full issue. The CSM took the gear straight to his office, locked it in a foot locker and waited a month to send his driver back with clearing papers and the stored gear. CIF rejected almost half the gear as being too dirty or unserviceable. Needless to say there were some changes made in the management.

Ft Drum had a great policy when I cleared back in 04. If you took your TA-50 to the post laundry facility, had them wash it for free and get laundry tags on each item, CIF was not allowed to reject it. Which worked great for me as I had to turn in regular issue, desert issue and all my flight gear. Only time I was ever one and done at CIF, though it helped my CO got so frustrated signing field loss memos he stopped asking what actually happened to the gear. We had me and about a dozen others all hit our ETS once the stop-loss was lifted from our battalion.

CIF - Consolidated Issuing Facility
I thought it stood for Central Issue Facility... At least that's what the big sign said down the street from our motorpool at Ft. Drum...
I concur- I hated that place with a passion- JMBD is so right- no matter how hard you try your shit will never be clean enough for them. When I got in we were issued the woodland stuff because the transfer over to ACU was still going on (but all my uniforms were ACU)... when I got out I turned in a bunch of BDU pattern and they bitched about a couple items. "Why? You're just going to throw it out anyway- this stuff isn't issued anymore." Even some of my ACU stuff was nearing obsolete since they were in transition to multicam for a lot of deployment gear. Not sure how they run it at Carson, but at Drum you are issued 2x as many items because of the ECWS gear... I had 4 duffel bags and that still wasn't enough to move all my issued gear back to the barracks. I think to work CIF you have to be the most hard-assed, bitter person on earth.

Not as much as the Navy though... [Coffee] What? A Captain is not a higher rank than a major!

Actually those big white boots sat in my closet the entire time! And not once did I ever use my bear mittens.

Maybe they use the DMV as their recruiting center...? The DMV folks with the most complaint cards get picked up by the DOD to work CIF...

I did not serve so I don't know anything about CIF but I did work for the NPS. They were pretty easy going about the gear they issued. Hell, I got paid to find old cabins in the backcountry they forgot they owned. At least the DoD tries to keep track of their stuff. But hell, you guys should be able to keep some of the stuff they give you. If you want to keep a canteen or some shit, it shouldn't be a big deal.
