I'm looking to get involved in a pure practical martial art in my area. Krav Maga appears to be what I'm looking for on paper, but those of you with practical experience please chime in here. I don't want any belts, no outfits and nothing fancy. Just what it takes to defend yourself on the street barehanded or with a knife or other handheld objects. There is some Krav Maga in the Boulder and Denver area but I need something closer.

Thanks

I think the school in Boulder closed, not sure though.

I used to train with RMKM... Rocky Mountain Krav Maga. There was talk of opening up more locations when I left, look up their website and see where they're at now. Back then there was only one location and instructor, but he was pretty damn good.

I saw a Yelp review for Denver Krav Maga that it was minimum $780 for 6-mo membership (this was a review from 2009). I suppose all worthwhile MA studios are this expensive?

I trained at RMKM for awhile, then my work schedule changed, and I wasn't able to attend often enough to get my monies worth. Krav is EXCELLENT, and I highly recommend it for conditioning, survival under stress, and all around fit for fighting. Now that I'm up north, I plan to check out the Colorado Krav on 120th. They do a lot of LEO specific training, so I like that idea. I've got my first child on the way, so I'd really like to get back into it, so I can start my son in classes at a fairly early age. If you are down south I highly recommend Rocky mountain Krav maga on Parker and Quincy. Talk to Britt, he's the owner, and a good dude.

Took Krav for years... It will kick your ass.
See if James still owns the school on 120th, he is really good but not sure if the school is still open.
Guy named Chet taught in Fort Collins, but it was years ago.
Those two guys pretty much started Krav in Colorado. Hell, back then I think there were only a handful of schools nationwide.
I've heard nowadays most schools are pretty watered down. When I was doing it I ended in the emergency room quite a few times.
Great fun, but had to give it after a couple years. Got tired of going to work looking all beat up, and I was one of the most trained non instructors.

What is Krav Maga? Sounds like something that would kill me.

No nonsense martial art. No fancy or dramatic forms or moves. Just bare bones, make the other guy hurt as much as possible, as soon as possible, so you can end a fight as soon as possible.

Israeli Defense Force self defense system..

Systema on the other hand would be the Russian military self defense system

I totally forgot about the Systema program in Longmont. That's likely my best bet. If you've got any other input on it please let me know.

Thanks!!
