View Full Version : CBI 7 day wait becoming the norm?

Just seems a little odd that for the last two months I have noticed that a backlog of an average of 10,000 apps in the queue and a 6 - 8 day wait. I have been told that CBI process 900-1200 apps a day and before December it was normal on a gunshow weekend to have a 35 minute to 2 hour wait. I also noticed that folks that "didn't want to wait" 2 hours for a BGC now have no problem waiting 7 or more days (about 30% of my customers).

I really do believe the processor at CBI are actually working hard at getting the apps completed I just wished that the State would have autorized more funds to CBI if only temporary. I believe that folks that moved out of the processing area have been asked to help out once again in the processing area.

I hope the State doesn't become like California (Colifornia or Calirado) [facepalm]

Just sayin'

I hope politicians are noticing how many guns are being purchased by CO voters and if they want to be (re)elected they should make that part of their platform and agenda

sure, we'll authorize new funds. $1 of every $10 fee for a CBI check that I have proposed will go directly to fund CBI.
The other $5 will fund free "gun free zone" signs for business around the state, yearly gun buyback programs, and a new firearm awareness class in elementary schools developed by the Brady Center.

What, that is only $6. I suppose any surplus will be sent the the general fund.

This is a temporary thing. sucks but it'll pass.
The fee is already being proposed though, with no actual law we don't know how it'd be allocated.

I don't have the facts, but I was told that part of getting the CBI in place was an agreement that the State would NOT charge for the BGC. Anyone have the facts about this?

first I've ever heard of that. As always, waiting on the text of the law.

Skimming through other laws being considered (worth doing btw) there are laws up that would nullify Prenups after the fact if they are unfair at the time of the divorce. Changing contracts after the fact doesn't seem to be a problem.

How can there still be a 7 day wait when there isn't een the supply anymore? Shelves everywhere are basically bare, is everyone just buying hunting rifles and bird guns?

have to get a BG check on an out of state transfer. Lots of guns out there at high prices ready to be shipped in.

How is paying $10 to be able to exercise your 2A rights any different than the poll taxes that were found to be unconstitutional?

a poll tax is taxing something that is free but for your time.

the BG check is part of a purchase, you've already spent money. You can bet if we didn't have TABOR it would have been a 20% tax on firearms and ammunition instead.

edit:
the BG fee could also be argued as a fee for service. That the service is mandatory doesn't stop fees from being collected to perform it (smog checks?)

why is this surprising?????

BGC are mandatory, however, CBI is not. like other states that allow the transfer of firearms to holders of valid CWPs or the dealer can go directly to NICS. Maybe it's time to change the BCG process and eliminate some $tate buracracy.

CBI BG Checks are bullshit - Complete bullshit. As it is now it is a de-facto waiting period that isn't in any CO statute. Funny how that works

I'd much rather deal with this "bullshit" than let a violent felon purchase a gun.

while agree it makes it a bit more difficult for them to buy a gun. it in no way stops them.

Yep. How come no one really addresses this? First off, look at the case of Aurora- he had no criminal history and legally purchased firearms. It is nearly impossible to predict someone will do harm. Secondly, the ATF even confronted this fact years ago- most criminals (who have a record) either steal or straw purchase their guns... Straw purchase is illegal already- but that doesn't stop people from doing it. So what is an expanded BGC system really going to fix?

Ya I got my AR right at MSRP so I can't complain too much.

Yeah, I wasn't enjoying having to sit in your garage and fill out the form and then leave my purchase there. I have to wonder if CBI is intentionally taking their time to get these done.

I just transferred a gun to someone from Texas, he stated that no checks on long guns and permit carriers only need the permit number written down for handguns, no waiting/calling. I tend to agree that there is some [pileoshit] with the current process. I am in no way implying that someone that shouldn't own a gun is able to get one, but what about a non-violent offender, maybe someone driving more than 25 miles an hour over the limit,?

He stated wrong. Long guns and pistols in tx get a background done, ccw just gets you a no wait pass. Not that checks take long there anyway, clerk calls FBI, FBI says OK, done. State doesn't run its own. (which is where the choke point is here in CO)

R&S
02-06-2013, 18:56
the [pileoshit]is the CBI red tape, just as the clerk in TX can call the FBI so can a clerk in CO do the same AND there is no reason why someone with a ccw can get a "no wait pass" in CO other than it's the process. It's just more bureaucracy that costs taxpayers more $$$ IMHO.

Oh come fair weather 2nd supporters, the state cbi bureaucracy check is absolutely necessary. It runs so efficiently. (Sarcasm)

I'm currently waiting on a check for items that I ordered long before the latest events unfolded and just arrived last week. I think that I should be able to go to the head of the line. :D
