View Full Version : What .22 pistol to silence...?
I am looking at picking up a .22 can from Alan soon, and wondering what .22 pistol I should purchase to go with it! I have been doing a little research and most people like the P22's and the Mosquitos, but now I'm faced with a decision! I have not shot either weapon, but have experience with both the SW/P99, and Sig full size pistols. Which weapon is going to be better as far as reliability with the can installed? which weapon is more accurate? Any other options as far as pistols i should look into?

you don't have one yet?? wait any longer and you'll end up with your tax stamp as a christmas (can i say christmas?) present!
own a p22, sig mosquito, ruger MKII, buckmark camper and 4 22 rifles that have threaded bbls. i use a Tac-65 and currently waiting approval for my Thunderbeast arms .22can (also 22mag) rated. buy one then go for another. with the cost of ammo my .22's get lots of range time. suppressed or not. i've had the best results with the wally world fed bulk pak .22
the higher end stuff is more accurate (depending on who you ask) but i'm not concerned with the MOA-sub MOA thing.
Yeah, im definately going to need to pick something up real soon! Im really beween the mosquito and p22... just cand decide which i like better! only .22 i have right now is an old nylon 66(that i love) but would love to get a few more of them! how well does the can work on the rifles considering the extra barrel length? I would love to get a little 10/22 or something /w a threaded barrel also if i can manage the funds for the can first!

I have three .22 pistols, only one of which is threaded so far. The threaded one is a .22 conversion on one of my Sig P226s. It's been dead reliable. The other two pistols are a PPK/S in .22 and a Ruger MK III. I'm definitely going to have the Ruger threaded but the PPK/S is a classic and I'm loath to destroy it's collector value.
My .22 can is a SWR Warlock. I also have a .30 Omega for my FAL and other assorted 30 caliber rifles.
sig mosquito has my pick.....have a great time with mine

yeah what he said. I have a mosquito with an AAC pilot. Its really quiet. I have also run it on my marvel .22 conversion for my 1911. its awesome.

If you ever start having problems with the accuracy or operation of your Mosquito, let me know. I've got an easy fix for all those problems. I'd cross post the info here, but you have to be a member of the website, so I have to copy and paste into an email for you.
Hi,
I've asked this question more times than I can count over the past few months as I've got a Spectre approval pending. I expected the Mosquito to be the overwelming winner, but to my surprise the guys that are really into it tell me the Buckmark is the best way to go. It has one of the better triggers, it runs quiet and maintains accuracy better than anything else. Of course it lacks a bit of cool factor and that's a consideration as well.
As a side note, I've also learned that on the Buckmark you likely want to go with a 4" barrel instead of the 5.5" as the longer barrel is more likely create supersonic speeds. I've found Buckmark barrels for $70 on line so if you want to keep one longer non-threaded barrel and buy an extra to cut and thread it won't be too expensive.
Let me know what you do and what results you have.
Thanks,
Bob
The Rugers are known to have a more quiet action than the Buckmarks. Even at 5.5 inches, you probably won't have to worry about high velocity ammo going supersonic. If it's a problem, you could always just shoot subsonic loads though.

Mosquito or P22.

Man, it has been a long time, but I believe that the common issue was that there is a screw located underneath the take down lever that needs to be tightened. I guess people were taking the lever off, backing the screw out, putting some loctite on it, and then tightening it back up. If I remember correctly, that screw helps hold the barrel in, and when it gets loose there is too much play in the barrel, affecting accuracy.

I've got a Spectre used on a Buckmark and love it. I did however buy a Tac-solutions light weight barrel for it. The pistol alone now seems almost to light, but with can attached it feels perfect. If you get up around ft collins let me know and I can let you test drive it if you wish.
Oh, for quietest? My T/C Contender. [Tooth]

I own a P-22; it's a pretty neat little gun. They were designed specifically to be a silenced weapon. In Germany the KSK were issued these with cans and a sweet holster that is made for gun and can
