View Full Version : Roofers got my attention

So I'm working from home today and I hear what sounds like a suppressed .22 cycling pretty fast. My neighbors had been having issues with one of their older kids and I know he has some NFA, so given all the other batshit nuts stuff going on I grabbed my rifle and looked out the windows. Two doors down some roofers were doing some work and it was their nailgun. I laughed at myself, but I was happy it was just the roofers.
Nice!
Its not quite roofing season here, but come sprngand summertime, the ^%^$$#* roofing companies are out in force, door to door. I hate them. I'll stand on the porch and if they start up the walk, I'll casually grab the garden hose and tell them to keep moving. Damn scammers. /rant end

[ROFL1]Chase 'em off with a garden hose... You'd have better luck with a 12GA... [Coffee]

I'm pretty mean-looking when it comes to solicitors. They often forget their spiel mid-paragraph and take a step back and look like they'd rather be elsewhere. If I had a 12GA in hand, I'd quickly become acquainted with our very fine sheriff department...

I had the opposite problem with neighbors. I was roofing my house and the neighbors were asking me if I would roof their house. $#@* neighbors. I never thought about my roofing guns sounding like a 22.

That WOULD be a pain! I never thought about it from the opposite viewpoint.
Last year I had no less than 14 different roofing companies approach me within 6 weeks and give me some BS story about how my roof needed replacing. Brand new roof in November of 2009, and it needed replacing. Uh-huh.
From a distance, those nail guns do sound like a .22.

Did that nail gun contain more than 10 nails?! I find it funny when multiple roofing jobs are going on in close proximity: sounds like a mini-shootout in Mexico (because y'know the radios are also blaring Mexican music...but thankfully not polka).

If you got that hail last June it could be a definite possibility. Tons of roof replaced from that one.

I got sick of the roofing companies too. Had one tell me he could see damage from the ground - really? New 30 yr warranty roof installed in 2010 and you can see damage from the ground that I couldn't find when I went up there myself??? A-holes.

Yeah, they tried that line as well. One of them actually crawled up there and took pictures of the "damage." I had my insurance company send out an adjuster, who walked around with the manager of the roofing company, looking. When they came down, the manager was all red in the face. I asked about the "damage" and the insurance adjuster told me is was a "creative" photo of bird poop discoloring the shingle.
I'm a big fan of that tool that shoots nails into concrete with the .22 blanks. Forget what it is called though. Ram something or other.

Ramset, just used mine the other day.
I was really disappointed the first time I used a nail gun. I thought it was going to be like the movies and be able to shoot any time (not just when pressed against something and then the trigger pulled).

What do those run? I will probably need to get one to finish my basement here soon

A piece of duct tape fixes that right up. Worked with a guy who showed me how they would shoot cigarettes to each other across the site.

Also called Hilti guns, and they're not cheap. You can rent them most places. And those concrete nails DON'T come out!

The single shot, manual Ramset's are pretty cheap actually. I think they are around $25 or so.

$25-$30 at Home Depot for the inexpensive Ramshot.
