View Full Version : my first varmint build
I've yet to decide what stock to put on it, so I threw a 6 pos. on it for the time being.
bm fluted 24" extra heavy barrel, and floated hg. keyhole upper, bm bolt and carrier, rock river lower, 2 stage rr trigger, dpms lpk, falcon ergo grip, burris xtr 3-12x50 scope with leupold qd rings.

Very nice.
Is that forearm, fore end, drilled and tapped for that bipod?

its drilled and tapped, but the bipod mounts to a sling swivel, so it can be quickly removed if needed.

CAR-15,
looks nice.
Had a chance to shoot it yet? Planning on hand loads or commercial?
Are you happy with how far back the scope is?
For the stock, on this type of rifle I really like the Magpul PRS ($210). I don't like coming out and telling people to get the most expensive option for them, but this stock is really a great addition to a precision AR. I have been installing them on AR-15s, AR-10s, FALs, and PTRs and they really are great. I can close my eyes, go prone, settle in, open my eyes and the scope is right where I want it.

I am guessing you want the OD version :D
Let me know which specific model you are looking for. Looks like all of them are available.
mildot or ballistic mildot
Illuminated or none illum

I'll second the recommendation on the PRS .. that would be a really nice finishing touch to a really good looking AR.
Question though.. why no break or FS?
ar will, got it at sportsmans warehouse.
aloharover, for the most part I run my own reloads on varmints, the magpul was actually the stock I had in mind, still not sure though, and I have not been able to find one in stock anywhere, the scope is perfect, when I put my cheek on the stock it is a perfect sight picture.
ssf467, how do optics, and a bipod on a varmint rifle make it to much?
BadShot, it has a target crown on the barrel, and I did not want to turn down the barrel and run a chance of screwing it up, and the p-dogs dont shoot back, so I dont care about a little muzzle flash.[Beer]

Very nice varmit rifle.[Beer]
I wanted to use the varmiter upper but as you stated it has a crowned barrel and I wanted to use a suppressor on mine. Bushy told me that they would not thread it and it would defeat the pourpose if I did. I ended up with the V-match upper instead.
We all need to get together for a CO-AR15 varmit shoot. ;)
Didn't say it was too much, if you go out shooting it's nice to fight thirst. I have to build a cup holder soon.
If you want a Magpul it's a great stock. You can really lock it into you.
I made a couple of changes, now she is complete, except for the stock. I replaced the unsightly gasblock with a yankee hill block, and put a set of kns pins, and a timney laser cut 4# trigger.

How do you deal with the eye relief? and the scope height? I tried that and it did not work for me.
saddly enough that is the reason I cant make myself change the stock, when I put my cheek down, the sight picture is right there.
