Think it is worthy of sending off to the reps?
Racial Slurs and Assault Weapons/10+ Round Magazines
Hopefully that title got your attention enough to read this… I am sure you are well aware of what a racial slur is so I will not bother to reference any, but I will say that a quick google search indicates that, of the estimated 1,022,000 words in the English language, a couple hundred of those are classified as racial slurs that really have no place in our communities. Since the use of these words is commonly followed by an escalation of tensions that often leads to violence, I propose that we ban these words under both state and federal law and make their use punishable by heavy fines and jail time. Even though some will say that freedom of speech is protected by the 1st amendment, we should say that this would fall under an exclusion and thus these words are not protected by the 1st amendment. After all, think of how many lives could be saved if people did not use these words. Countless acts of violence would be avoided and just like Diane Feinstein pointed out in her proposed gun legislation referencing how many other firearms would still be legal, there are still over 1 million other words you can use in lieu of these horrible race based verbal assault words.
If this sounds ridiculous to you, then how is it any different from any of the currently proposed gun legislation? Personally, I see no difference between that outrageous paragraph I typed above, and any of the attempts at infringement on the second amendment that is going through our political system right now.
Just to clarify, I do not use any of those “Race Based Assault Words”, but I am a gun owner. As of late, my biggest fear is when politicians are allowed to start changing things in our Constitution, where will they stop? I am pretty sure that no one will have the gall to try and take away any of our other freedoms while the people have the right to bear arms, after all, the founding fathers thought that arms were so important that they placed that right as the second item in the Bill of Rights. As long as this right is not infringed upon all the other rights still have teeth.
I am a voter and over the last several elections 2nd amendment gun rights has been pretty far down the list of things I worried about when choosing a candidate. Currently, and as long as I keep hearing about further gun-legislation, it is by far the most important thing I am basing my selection off of. I will be voting in the next election as I do in every election and I will be taking note of who is on what side of the gun debate.
NO to any new gun legislation!
