Loaded 600 rounds of .223 with 55 gr sp. Now I have a nice even 1k. Next is 1k of 55 gr hp.
Is that the only difference? How much case capacity gain have you noticed from .243 to 6CM?
Dont know. Never shot it as a plain old 243.
With the 30' shoulder my brass grows less and I can easily use a slower powder and not run out of room in the case.
And its different.

Yesterday, had the boy start the tumbler with a load of 9mm about 3 in the afternoon. Then.......forgot about it until this morning. Ought to be REAL shiny.
Prepped (Deprimed, resized, trimmed, deburred, and swaged) 500 pieces of 5.56/.223 this weekend. The WFT was a life saver! But still a PITA.... FML
Looking in to a dillion soon.

Got my first 9mm test loads done today, and shot them at the range tonight. All were with Xtreme plated 115gr bullets, and AA5 powder loaded to 1.155 OAL. The lowest load of 5.4gr failed to lock the slide back on the first round, but locked it correctly on the next 2 sets of the same load. The rest of the rounds (5.7gr, 6.0gr, and 6.3gr) all functioned normally. The 6.0gr load felt the closest to the factory Federal value pack stuff I was shooting. The 6.3gr felt a little hotter, but only barely. No cases showed any pressure issues, not surprising since I stayed a bit below the max load numbers.
With the one failure to lock the slide back on 5.4, I'll probably plan on a batch somewhere between the 5.7 and 6.0. I only tested them in my sr9c so I still need to see how run in my wifes new M&P Shield. It's recoil spring is tighter than my ruger.
My skills are still the weak link, so not worried about the ammo's accuracy too much. I didn't shoot any from a bench rest, but they seemed at least as accurate as the factory ammo I shot earlier in the evening.
Thanks to those who offered tips and pointed me toward sources for the components.

if only you would have remembered to water drop them.. I swear it is getting harder and harder to find good friends.[Beer]
Threw a bunch of 9mm and .223 in the tumbler then ordered 1000 Extreme plated 9mm. Looks like I'll be shooting a LOT of 9mm in the future. Last range trip I went through 300 rounds. 1000 rounds goes quickly like that.

It would take a LOT more than my itty bit of ammo to drop the numbers by any significant amount. It certainly is a target rich environment, though!

Loaded the remaining 70 rounds last night, for the match today. They were very accurate for me. Now I've switched to X-treme and will have to start all over again working up loads. Currently tumbling 212, 40 S&W cases.

Loaded my first batch of 100 rounds of 9mm. Loaded them in single-stage mode, where I resized/deprimed/primed them all, then ran thru them all thru the expander/charging die, then seated the bullet on all rounds, then crimped all rounds. Before adding the bullets, I was able to inspect all the charged cases side by side to ensure they all looked right.
I'm using the lee auto-disk powder measure with the adjustable charge bar. After adjusting it, its takes a few charges to settle in, then it seems to stay very consistent. For the first 50, I measured the powder charge of each round. For the next 50, I just measured every 5th or so, or if something didn't feel quite right. I was trying for a charge of 6.0gr, and the entire time I never saw a charge under 5.9, or more than 6.2. Most were 6.0/6.1.
I think by the next batch I'll feel comfortable starting to use the auto-indexing mode on the press. I'll probably single-stage the first 10 or so, so that I can weight the charges, then go auto-index after that.
Rod, I've got a couple thousand Extreme 147gr on the way, what load are you using?
I got the heavy-plated version so I wouldn't have to deal with the slower velocity thing.
50 223 52 grain barnes xlc and 100 speer 52 hollow points 27.3 grains cfe. My 1/9 twist likes these. It exhausts my stock of them, but I'll only use them when it matters. Couldn't find a charge that wasn't within 1 tenth of a grain on my lee pro disk. As always.
Headed back to make 100 308 168 hpbt. Hopefully the wife sleeps in a little while longer before I have to start honey do's.

I used TiteGroup 3.2 grains. I did a 60 round ladder to test loads... at 3.0, 3.2 and 3.4 grains. My XDm 5.25" seemed to like the 3.2 and 3.4 equally well so I picked the 3.2 and ran with it. My OAL was 1.160" +/- 0.005"
I'm using x-teme's UPC #819304313149 bullets.
I've still got about 700 rounds of loaded 115gr Montana Gold bullets and another 2000+ of the Montana Gold RN's sitting in the box. I like the feel of the heavier bullet as I'm trying to improve my skills in faster shooting. I'm trying to get to a point where I won't completely embarrass myself in a 3-gun competition... I should probably start shooting my shotgun at some point.... Hmm...

Finally shot my test 45acp loads. I did 5 steps from 7.0gr to 7.8gr of AA5, 230gr bullets. I ran a magazine of factory ammo first, then the test rounds. Even the 7.0gr felt hotter than factory. They all ran good and accuracy looked good. The 7.8gr seemed to have a little bit of primer flattening, but it was barely noticable, so I might be imagining thing. I won't be working up that high anytime soon, so not worried about it. Loaded up another batch of test loads, this time at 6.6gr and 6.8gr.
I switched the press over from .223 to 9mm........waiting for dem boolits!

Prepped and Primed all the brass from the ammo I shot up at SHC this weekend, well most of it anyway, I think I lost probably 15 or so pieces. But 200 pieces of my usually meticulous brass prep for my match ammo was quite enough for one day.
Then loaded up 50 rounds of it for testing purposes with 123 gr Lapua's. Just to see what I can get out of it. If I can get the speed I'm looking for, with a low SD and good group, I may consider switching to them down the road. We'll see, it's not like the 139's I'm currently shooting are doing poorly, but it's more to satisfy my own curiosity.
Tomorrow night, I'll have to load up enough to ensure I have plenty ready to go for Steel Safari.

I had a good time with the 123s. I was able to get them going 2900 out of my 20" gas gun before I saw any real pressure signs. I decided that I probably shouldn't be pushing them that hard. I now use the 142 SMKs, but I have a small stock (maybe 100 or so) of the 123s left that I should burn up.
The 123s and 139s are a lot easier to acquire.
What powder are you using? (I ask this question a lot, just to satisfy my curiosity of what others are using)
I shot 1K of Sierra's 123 out of my bolt gun. I got shamed into switching to the 142's, but I liked the 123's a lot. There was a bit less recoil and muzzle blast (pre-can days) which made the gun a little easier to shoot. I know I gained some ballistic performance by switching to the 142's, but I'm not convinced it made any real world difference.

142s in a gas gun suck.

H4350, but also doing some testing with RL17, but not comfortable switching to it until I can test the load at over 100° ambient temp. Because it's pretty much inevitable that I'm going to run out of H4350 and not be able to re-supply as soon as I'd like. I've also found a really good load with the RL17 but have no idea if it'll get nasty (pressure/big velocity swing/lose consistency) when the temp goes up or not.
I'm mainly testing the 123 Lapua because when you put pen to paper on them, because the BC is so close on them to the 139, I figure if I can pump up the speed on them a enough, while keeping good groups/low SD, etc. it will be a ballistic advantage to run them vs the 139. I honestly don't think I'll get enough speed to make it an advantage, but we'll see. I'd need to gain a solid 200 fps over the 139 that I'm currently running @ 2830 fps while maintaining all the other goodness of my current load.

I was finally able to order some powder (thanks to powder valley) and some (montana gold) bullets. Starting next weekend I will finally enter the world of reloading!
Finally had enough time to clean up after too long away. Cast and powder coated some new bullets. Loaded up some in 38 special and tested out the rounds (worked great!). Also got some tax stamps back for toys, so finally fixed the CNC spindle index electronics on my lathe so that I can thread some tubes :)

Ran a pile of test loads at the range. In my 260 I managed to get the 123 gr Lapua's up to 3148 fps, with an SD of 6.4 and no signs of pressure. 5 shot group came in at .402" With that speed, this load will shave off 1.8 mils of elevation and .2 mils off a full value wind @1200 yds as compared to my current load with the 139 gr loads.
Pretty sure I'm going to load up a bunch for the next Raton match and give them a whirl in real conditions.
147gr 9mm arrived, but the PITA state shoot is going on this weekend, so must wait...
Bought a Dillon LARGE sized media separator today, half priced, couldn't pass it up.

I don't ever smoke a mold block unless it's having trouble letting go of bullets. For the most part, it's not needed.
When you get a new mold, the oils from machining are usually still present hidden in the nooks and crannies. I wipe out the cavities with rubbing alcohol, but it still takes a lot of casting before they stop coming out all wrinkled. Basically, my first session with the mold is getting it hot and getting it to drop pretty bullets.

Did my second trial of powdercoating cast lead .45 230gr. LRN bullets with red powder from Harbor Fart. First trial was dry tumbling them, that worked OK but they weren't very pretty. Well that was the most disappointing range trip in a long time. I don't know what the problem was, but I did not have any success with reloads or factory ammo. I had a few reloads not go into battery properly, and called it quits when one didn't go into battery and when i tried to unjam it, the bullet came right out and it dumped the powder all over the inside of the chamber and the barrel. [facepalm]
Even my factory ammo that usually shoots about 1.25" groups at 100 yds was giving me 2"+ groups at 100yds. At 200 yds, all of my reloads gave me consistently awful groups between 4 and 6 inches, regardless of the charge. Oh yeah, the 5-15mph gusting crosswind didn't help either. :(

Performing an occasional PM on the sizing and seating die never hurts. Try a q-tip with some brake kleen to remove any deposits and pull the decapping pin, there's always crap on it.

Going to try some HP-38 with 158gr RNFP xtreme plated 368 spl loads. So use to TG but the data is sketchy. The HP-38 from hogdon looks exactly like their TG . Burn rate puts TG 2-3 faster than the HP-38.
Weird changing over once you have a comfort level with different powder.

I'm one of the examples Kazoo is speaking of. I'm a proud owner of a 550b now.
I know 300 is nothing, but I don't want too get to confident, too fast. I'm excited that I was able to load 8 different weights in one night. Last time it took me a whole week because it would take me an hour tondial in the weight each time. It's really that I'm just becoming more familiar with my equipment and procedure.

HP-38 is the same as Win 231. It's a good mid-level powder for that load. Too fast of a powder to really push hard, but nice for target/plinking loads and plenty accurate.

Not everyone needs to load hundreds of rounds a day. I can't afford to load or shoot that much ammo!

Loaded up 250rds of 40s&w. Sister is coming to visit in 2wks and I want to have enough ammo for her to shoot. Last time she was here for my bachelor party (joint girls/guys shooting range the day after), she didn't get to shoot much because the guys were hogging all the guns/ammo and she felt bad lol.
Squeezed out 150 rounds of .40. Took me just over an hour, starting with primed cases. I'm okay with that pace, as it is already faster than I can afford as far as components goes.
Another 150 rounds of .40.
H'orderves anyone?

Did my first ever load yesterday......total of 50 of 300BLK. Since I did not read scale correctly, I now need to buy a bullet puller for 30 of them!
Ha! Congrats on first load. Definitely a bullet puller. The hammer puller sucks for more than a handfull.
I quickly threw together 50 rounds of the 9mm load that tested best with WSF. Then took them to the range and tried them out on steel. They spanked the steel with authority. Low recoil, sent the dueling tree plates around nicely, and were still accurate at 50yds. We'll see what they can do at the Freedom Shoot at Pawnee next weekend.
Then, as I was picking up the 9mm and 5.56 brass, I remembered that I have a new media separator! Good times.
Primed roughly 300 cases. I always get 1-2 sideways primers per 100 when I go too fast.

Also loaded up the remaining 225 grain partitions for the .338-06. I'm now... uhhhhh.... loaded for bear. [Coffee]
Finished off the last of my box of 500, 180gr .40. Surprising how fast a box of 500 goes; even on a turret press. Then I sized and primed another 200 cases. I'm hooked on reloading for sure now.

It all shot great, no malfunctions. Was pretty cool knowing that it was all handloaded. Need to order up some more 9mm bullets, and begin searching for more pistol powder.

Sorry to hear of your hail damage.
I've been stuck down in Denver all this week for training, but talked to my mom the other night (who lives in Ft. Collins) and she was afraid at one point that the hail was going to start breaking windows on the north side of her house. I called my brother who lives within a mile of me here in Loveland and he said they had zero hail. Amazing how localized it can be.

9mm 115gr plated, 1.125 OAL with 4.0gr, 4.2gr, and 4.4gr.
45acp 230gr plated, 1.250 OAL with 4.4gr, 4.6gr and 4.8gr.

Even though the charges for the titegroup were lower than the charges for my AA5, they are very close to the same volume. So one common knock I heard against titegroup, being that it was easy to double-charge and not notice, isn't any worse than the AA5.
This mornings ammo ran great. Five rounds each of 70, 71, 72 and 73 gns of H-1000. The first load turned out to be the best.
After dinner I headed back downstairs to finish up. While my roll sizer was busy running in the background, I loaded up 20 rounds of 300 Win Mag to see how they will shoot out towards a thousand yards. As long as they will hold sub 3/4 minute I will start loading a bunch of them.

If you're still looking, those big white boxes that Xtreme Bullets come in are perfect for storage of reloads. The big box will hold 400x 9mm, or 250x .40S&W. Print out a little tag indicating the load data, quantity and whatnot, then tape it shut and stack em wherever. I'm getting rid of my 50rd factory ammo boxes in favor of this since I can store more bullets in less space since they aren't stacked neatly. And lets be honest here, reloading the mags from a pile of rounds or from a neatly organized tray isn't faster one way or another.

Decided to break out my reloading stuff yesterday, spent all morning tumbling, decapping, cleaning, sizing about 1000x 223 (trimming/deburring these), 750x 9mm, 500x .40S&W. Then finished with priming that 223 only since I'm apparently out of small pistol primers. My wife gave me crap for not packing, until I showed her that I was really consolidating containers and was able to trash about 5-10 smaller containers that were holding brass in various processing stages. I sure showed her! [LOL]

Outstanding tip, not sure why I didn't think of using those. My first order from xtreme came in the large 1000 count box. My second order came in two smaller 500 count boxes. The smaller boxes work great for me for loaded ammo. It just barely holds 250 rounds of 9mm.

Nice. I have always gotten my bullets in the boxes that are twice that size (long rectangular), so I guess those are the 1000rd boxes. But my last order, I got the 500rd boxes which might actually make it easier to store.

"get the spouse to"
Kazoo, how, exactly does this thing work? She shoots, she will occasionally load a mag...she knows where all the cleaning and reloading stuff is downstairs...but the "get the spouse to" thing escapes me...
BTW, We've been away at the PITA Grand Pacific Trapshooting Tournament for a while, I had to go downstairs today to make sure the basement is actually still there. Maybe get down there tomorrow and actually do something.

Used up the last of my AA5. Loaded up 200 rounds of 9mm, and 127 rounds of 45 (ran out of my 45 bullets, more on order already).
Now I've got 1/2 a bottle of titegroup, and 4 unopened bottles CFE Pistol. I'll work up some test rounds for the CFE later this week. Not much reloading data out there for CFE Pistol. Only "official" source I've seen is the Hodgdon website. But that data, combined with recipes I've seen on various forums seem to match up pretty well, so I have an idea of where to start.
I procrastinated (again) and worked on the secret gun shelves instead. Gotta load some .260 soon...

browsing load data from late 70's & 80's manuals, and the powders used. Interesting info.
Vacuumed the floor, redid the shelving units, and sorted brass.
Okay, so I tried the "picture on the milk carton" idea. Not going to do THAT again! I'm not taking Kazoo's advice anymore! That's going to leave a scar.
I've started working out after work since I got back from the Grand Pacific shoot. Nice by-product of that is my cooling down period in the basement (it's always cooler down there) is just about right for two boxes of 12 ga reloading.
Finished a case of rounds last night. And, I've got another thou of 147 gr 9mm's coming from Extreme Bullets. BTW, they have free shipping this month.

It is interesting reading. With articles written by guys with names like Hodgdon, Page and O'Connor, all you can say is there's a solid foundation there.
Here's a link to 4 old manuals:

I ordered some lead (Keith 173g .358 and 265g .452) from Beartooth. If these work out then I'll add the Keith 250g .430 for my .44.

Tested my first 9mm rounds using the CFE Pistol. Metered very well. Looks like VERY tiny flakes, small enough that it flowed well in the powder measure.
Loaded up 15 each with 5.3gr, 5.5gr, and 5.7gr, using Xtreme 115gr plated round nose, at 1.125" OAL. Made sure to test all the round in both of my 9mm pistols. All of them seemed good, a little snappier than my titegroup rounds, which I'm thinking I may have loaded a little light. Muzzle flash was minimal, and both guns were pretty clean afterwards.
Going to use the 5.5gr load and load up a couple hundred 9mm.

If that's how the gun spirits speak to us, then I should probably buy a bunch of guns in .380 because I seem to always find a bunch of .380 mixed in with my 9mm! ...of course I always seem to find it just AFTER I've seated a 9mm bullet in the .380 case...

Yeap, I was in Omaha and stopped in a shop that had an impressive amount of powder on the shelf. They even had 8lb and 1lb jugs of Winchester Autocomp, which is a great pistol powder for 9/40/45 etc. One guy in there was trying to find titegroup and I told him to give the autocomp a try, he couldn't wrap his head around the fact that a different powder might be as good or better than what he was using. Oh well, his loss. I walked out of there with 24lbs of powder, and a lighter wallet.
Now I get to spend some time tuning up some 7-08 brass into 260 brass. Found a shop that had it on the shelf too.
Knocked over a couple hundred primed .308 cases I had stacked in a plastic tub while moving the workbench over 1" while re-arranging the basement to make more room for storage.

That's my first BCM upper and I had heard that they were good shooters, but... Damn! I was actually really pissed off when I shot it because I saw the first shot (in the white) and the next two shots were in the middle of the stripe and couldn't see them... I thought I had somehow completely missed. I started checking my scope mounting, etc to make sure everything was still tight.

Loaded a hundred rounds of 9mm using 5.5 gr of CFE Pistol with xtreme 115gr plated round nose. I had done test loads from 5.3gr to 5.7gr, and since they all ran great decided to go for the middle load, and run a bunch.
Was my first reloading since having surprise surgery last week to remove my appendix. Reloading doesn't seem that physical, but was definitely sore afterwards.

Spittoon was on the desk on the opposite wall of the bench, Plenty of lead in the closet just outside of the room, but all my antlers are in my dad's house in MN. Girlie calendar is on the fridge.

Didn't find much load data for CFE with 124gr bullets, but based on the single item on the hodgdon site and then verifying against loads I found on forums, I ended up with 4.9, 5.1, and 5.3 grains at 1.100 OAL.
