Overturning the decision of the Colorado State Supreme Court to allow citizens to defend themselves anywhere they go in Colorado is bad law, as studies show that concealed carry permit holders commit crimes at a rate lower than that of the general population, but also lower than law enforcement officers. Do not let this piece of well-intentioned, but ineffective legislation make to a vote."

Email sent to all, keep up the great work. Couldn't bring myself to use the words well-intentioned but thanks for the content. (might add the word "it" in the last sentence)
Many thanks. We are all in this together. Even those who are pressing for gun control legislation are our brothers, misguided as they may be. They are the ones who we must convince, which makes it our task to bring them back to reason, which is no easy task.
Along the same lines here are the emails for all the state legislators. I couldn't find a consolidated list so I typed them all out.

Two thumbs up to Chris Holbert, here is his reply:
I'll vote "No" on any/all gun control legislation.
The Second Amendment exists to protect us from tyranny and I will not compromise on that issue.
If you'd like to learn about my efforts to defend the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, then please take time to read this recent article:

Hello all,
I got an excellent email back from the aide to State Senator Greg Brophy today that I'm going to pass on here. It give some pointers to us on a better way to write our correspondence to the legislators. Please take a look at how you can improve your contacts.
My name is Joseph and I am an aide for Senator Greg Brophy. Senator Brophy has received a huge amount of e-mails regarding upcoming gun legislation over the past few weeks. It’s encouraging to know that so many people are willing to fight for our Second Amendment rights. Now more than ever we need you to contact your legislators. Four bills, House Bills 1224, 1226, 1228, and 1229, will be heard in committee in the next two days. These are the bills we’ve been concerned about; all four are vicious attacks on the rights of gun owners.
Unfortunately, many of the e-mails we’ve received will not be effective in convincing legislators to vote against these bills. There are a few basic guidelines you should follow when trying to communicate effectively with legislators.
Many of these pro-gun rights e-mails are very long. Legislators don’t read long e-mails. They don’t have time. In fact, Senator Brophy is one of the only legislators who answers his own e-mail. Most of the time, e-mail is answered by an aide or other staff person who will probably ignore any message longer than a paragraph or two. You’re much more likely to be heard if you limit your e-mails to a few sentences. Many of these e-mails also contain lectures on the history and importance of gun rights, extensive statistics, and detailed analysis of proposed gun restrictions. Such messages are also ineffective. Have you ever tried to convince your spouse, child, or friend to change their position on something by lecturing them? It’s unfortunate, but e-mails that try to lecture a legislator on gun rights will be sent right to the trash folder.
At this point, what really matters is how senators and representatives plan to vote on proposed gun control measures and whether the governor will sign them. To communicate effectively, simply urge your legislator to vote yes or no on a particular bill, ask how they intend to vote, and request a reply. You have a much better chance of convincing a legislator who is wavering on the issue if you keep your e-mails brief and simply ask for a “no” vote on upcoming gun control bills. Also, don’t be afraid to contact the Governor Hickenlooper. You can reach his office at 303-866-2471 or send him an e-mail from the following page:http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/GovHickenlooper/CBON/1251592968310
Thank you for your activism. I know the situation might look bleak, but if we can effectively make our voices heard, we can take these gun bills down.
Sincerely,
Joseph Caldara
Aide to State Senator Greg Brophy

From Spencer Swalm
I assure you that I too respect the Constitutional right to bear arms.
Moreover, data indicate that gun-control legislation does not prevent
tragic shootings.
I fully expect a great deal of pressure from those who want control
over all facets of our lives. In the hope of balancing that pressure,
you may want to attend hearings and, if you are willing, speak as you
have written.
Thank you for your message and for your defense of our treasured
Constitution. I encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts and
concerns with me.
Respectfully,
Representative Spencer Swalm
bump for another committee to send an email to. It looks like you can skip Holbert or change the message to him to be a "Thank you for supporting our rights"
Steve Lebsock(D-Thornton) will be voting No on this. I hope that at least 4 more will join him.
I just sent this
Representatives,
I am very concerned about all of the current gun control bill, but I would like to talk to you about HB 13-1226. As a student veteran that attends the University of Colorado Denver I would be directly impacted by this bill. I have a CCW permit and I carry my weapon with me to school daily. Before I started going to school there, I did not feel that I needed a concealed weapon, but after I started attending school, I quickly changed by mind. I get a notice every time there in an incident at or close to campus that would put me in danger. Here are just a few that I have from my school email.

TIMELY NOTIFICATION BULLETIN FOR THE AURARIA CAMPUS
ROBBERY
April 13, 2012 - 12:20 p.m.
In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, the Auraria Higher Education Center located in Downtown Denver is issuing notice of a violent crime that occurred on the Auraria Campus.
REPORTED OFFENSE: At approximately 12:20 p.m., a man was robbed in the King Center/ Performing Arts Building on the Auraria Campus. While using the restroom on the 1st floor of the facility, the suspect approached him, pushed him in to a bathroom stall, brandished a knife, and stole his computer and cash. Auraria Police responded immediately and are actively investigating the incident.
This case is especially troubling to me because it occurred in a campus building restroom. Other school campuses might be different, but it is a fact that our campus, which expands into downtown Denver is not free from some pretty serious crimes. These are just a few of the notices that I have received. I take public transportation to and from school and I have a 40 minute walk to the light rail. Sometimes I don't start that walk until 9pm. This bill would not only force me to keep my weapon out of school buildings, but it would also disarm me to and from school as well.
I ask you not to pass this bill. How will you vote on this?
Rep. Dave Young is voting yes on this bill. His own words when asked directly.
Fmedges- great letter... basically any campus in/near Metro Denver is not safe (no where is truly 100% safe)- but forget us, we need to protect the children. [facepalm]

The court upheld that the current legislation makes it illegal for universities/colleges to ban CCW on campus. This bill will change that legislation.

Seriously, didn't some Republicans loose their bids for reelection or get forced out because of their comments on rape prior to November 2012? Who wants to start taking bets that Salazar or anyone at UCCS loses their job for this BS? Anyone? Yeah, didn't think so, it won't hurt them one bit because as Salazar said
" I am a husband and father of two beautiful girls, and I’ve spent the last decade defending women’s rights as a civil rights attorney."
Sure you have, because you don't think they are smart enough to defend themselves. This all makes me sick.

I'll post the rebuttal that was sent out to UCCS students for those who care.
To the Campus Community:
I am writing to advise you of a recent controversy surrounding a Department of Public Safety web page.
A page containing information about rape prevention at UCCS was taken out of context on popular social media sites and has drawn the attention of local news media as well.
We apologize for the miscommunication and any confusion that this page may have caused.
No policy was changed by the University and no advisories about crime prevention were sent to faculty, staff and students, as has been reported. Additionally, the web page in question is not related to the gun control discussions now taking place in the Colorado General Assembly.
The page in question was created in 2006 as supplemental material for women who had completed an internationally recognized Rape Aggression Defense course offered free of charge to UCCS students. The 10 tips are considered last resort options when all other defense methods have been exhausted.
This page was intended as a reminder for graduates of the RAD program, an intensive self-defense program, and part of a larger discussion of last-resort tactics.
As a response to recent interest in the page, the Department of Public Safety will update it to provide additional context and information about crime prevention and the opportunity to enroll in the RAD class.
I encourage you to share this information and thank you for your continued efforts to keep UCCS safe.
Respectfully,
Jim Spice, executive director, Department of Public Safety
What they wrote seems to be the truth and that stuff has been up for a long time before these bills. On the other hand every time I get an email from boulder about pot or guns it's written like it came out of the twilight zone.

The fact that the UCCS thing has been up since 2006 is even more troubling.
Their new motto should be - "UCCS: Advising women to piss themselves to avoid rape for the last 7 years."

Meh, it is primarily designed for the women living in the dorms, and rape is a huge problem for colleges. If it makes the difference then I would advocate trying anything that might work.
Don't get me wrong, the CU system is crazy in MANY ways, I just don't see this as one of them.

This bill infuriates me the most. I'm a 30 year old student, army veteran and guys and gals like me going back to school get labeled "binge drinking college kids" who shouldn't have guns by democrats. I have a wife I want to go home to every day, I don't want to worry about being in some BS "gun free zone" where some nut case might come and shoot at us because liberals think feel good gun free zone signs stop anything.
I will be writing a letter to my school president on this issue.
Now if our campus security was beefed up and was sporting AR15's that'd be just peachy to me, I'd feel just like at home :)

Ok, so I might be incredibly wrong and fucked up on this but the way this bill works is by declaring college as public education correct?
According to federal law, public education must be funded federally and would evoke all the other programs such as "no child left behind" as well as free and equal access. Wouldn't this law force the government to pay for college tuition, college professors losing their chance of tenure as well as a whole bunch of other legal clusterfuck such as testing and applications to enter the colleges?
If so, this could be en economic clusterfuck and a huge impact on the state budget.

Now this is an interesting point...
I'll say this- if/when I decide to go back to school and I'm being forcefully disarmed (I consider threat of loss of life/liberty/property by prosecution to be forceful) while I attend class and I become the "victim" (says nothing of carrying a knife, yet) of a crime, believe me I'm going to sue the everloving shit out of both the school for not being able to protect me while I'm not able to do so myself, and then the state, for making such a fucked up law. Bill is dead according to Denver Post: http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_22746936/colorado-gun-bills-guns-campus-goes-before-senate
Saw that on Friday. Thank goodness. My daughter is a CSU student, and I can't think of anything stupidier and more fear-based than banning carry on campus. Apparently, oppponents fail to realize that to get a CCW permit you have to go through a stringent background check, including finger printing. To think that anyone who would subject themselves to the process for the legal right to carry concealed is a danger, is pure ignorance and fear.
Maybe we need to push for mandatory gun training and safety in schools?
Oh, but this bill is only tabled until May 10, along with Senator Morse's strict liability bill. If you heard his little rant before he moved to table his bill, it was scary. It is frightening to hear an elected official talk about getting rid of guns as "Cleansing a sickness from our souls doesn't come easy. It's gruesome," as Sen. Morse did when he withdrew his bill.
Does anyone else see coming what I do?
No doubt they''ll take another shot at this. We need to be vigilant and LOUD. Th session ends 8 May, effectively killing these proposals, but it isn't unheard of for the session to be extended...
