All,

I am a relative newcomer to this board, but have been watching it for years. I am grateful for the Colorado AR-15 forum, and appreciate all of the help, advice and guidance offered by those who participate.

Here we stand at a pivotal moment in Colorado gun control legislation. I know you all feel it too. Elsewhere on this thread are posted dates for Colorado House Assembly meetings and hearings. These are events that we should strive to attend, and at a minimum attempt to influence via our emails (please see other posts on this thread).

It is crystal clear to us why more gun legislation is not the answer to a broken culture. And, it is equally, if not more frustrating to try to influence the thinking of friends, family and others who otherwise support the aims of gun control advocates. I am very grateful to Michael Brown for posting "Gun Facts As Opposed to Emotion" at http://www.khow.com/pages/brown.html. This is good, but my experience with gun control advocates who are emotionally compromised with fear is that facts do not matter, which frustrates us Second Amendment supporters to no end!

Since logic is often devoid of emotion, our attempts to counter the feelings of gun control advocates with facts, statistics and analysis has in most cases only served to back them further into their entrenched positions, making understanding even more difficult. Sometimes, the best way to reach someone with a hardened position is through a story, song, picture or poem. These are methods that speak to something deep inside us, beyond our waking thoughts and feelings. With that objective in mind, I penned "Where The Thorns Grow (A Gun Fable)", a blog post (http://jamesviser.com/?p=426), that I hope speaks to both the hearts and minds of gun control advocates in a different way.

I know this is untraditional, but if the approach resonates with you, then kindly share the fable with others. It may speak to them in a way we are incapable of through the power of speech alone.

Kind regards,

James

PS - I apologize to the forum administrators for potentially sounding promotional, but this issue is near and dear to my heart. Kindly let me know if I have overstepped my bounds here, and I will gladly remove this post.
