So, are melanistic pheasants exclusive to farm raised birds? I've seen a few on TV over the years but in 20 years hunting western KS I've yet to encounter one.

That's an awesome bird by the way.

I shot one a few years ago but it was pretty beat up do I didn't have it mounted but if I had let it get out a little farther I definitely would of had it mounted. That one you have is nice mount that thing (bird I mean)

Again thank you for the kind words !! I talked to Keith Anderson at Anderson taxidermy , done deal, most cost effective, and to be honest, the only one that asked me what I wanted and what my expectations were. 10months 100 deposit !! I am stoked :-) I will definitely post the photos up when I get him back, now I am looking for some one that can do plexiglass work so I can keep it clean and protected!!

Second Amendment isn't about shooting clays or hunting.

Most of the variant birds do not do well in the wild and get killed quick.... that is why you don't see them generally in the wild population.
The really unique one I've ever seen was the "golden" not a black pheasant... seen a few of those blackies.
