View Full Version : Valentine's Day... Need some ideas/advice
As luck would have it I really have never had a girlfriend for this holiday, so naturally this year I get the luck of actually being with someone on this Valentine's Day. We already have plans to go to see the new Die Hard (her idea- yeah, she's that kind of awesome!) but we're going out to dinner first. Here's where I need some ideas- I'm not really too terribly savvy on the "nicer" restaurants in the city -outside of stuff that is really expensive like Elways and The Chart House, or really cheap like Qdoba and various fast food. What I'm looking for is something nice, but won't require me to take out a small loan. I've had the Keg in Lakewood recommended, but not terribly sure if that's the best place or not. Any suggestions would be great- we can see the movie really anywhere (I'm thinking our best options would be in/around Denver West/CO Mills or even all the way in Downtown). [Beer]

Steakhouse 10 and Undici (Same owners) have been rated 2 of the best restaurants in denver. Undici isnt too bad on price $15-$25 a plate, Steakhouse 10 is awesome but closer to $35-$50 a plate. I would also suggest BRIO, and White Chocolate Grill, both excellent, both reasonably priced. Fruition is great, a little pricey though. Linger is amazing, again pricey.
I worked for Del Frisco's and would not suggest them.
Those are my recommendations, I've eaten at all of them, and I also worked at a hotel recommending these places and always asked for feedback from everywhere. Undici, and Steakhouse 10 were the most loved restaurants from everyones opinions.

You're bad... she actually made a comment yesterday about strip clubs- "Why would you look at fake boobs you can't touch when mine are real, probably bigger, and you can touch 'em." [word]

We can see it at any of the big theaters- I'm thinking either CO Mills, Belmar, or Downtown at the Pavilions... I'd rather cater it around where we eat.

I've never heard of Undici- what kind of food is it? I'll use my google-fu to see where these are all at... thanks for the suggestions! I'm trying to not make it too painful- probably under $30/plate- otherwise I'd take her to Chophouse [Coffee]

Its Italian. In englewood. Roughly university and hampden.
Asking here for Valentines Day advice is like asking a liberal if they prefer the Weaver or iscosolese stance. You'll get an answer, but it won't be worth much.

I have heard some good things about Steakhouse 10. My immediate thought for the JeffCo area was Simms Steakhouse but it can definitely be pretty pricey; something to keep on the back burner for a bigger occassion though.

Twin Peaks and its Lingerie week. Great food though
Here are three options around downtown that have excellent food for your price point...
Like Japanese? Try Domo
Like Mexican? Try LoLa
Like Italian? Try Panzano
All three serve alcohol, which will greatly increase your chances of getting in............. nevermind........

The Barolo Grill (http://barologrilldenver.com/) is excellent, if a bit pricey. I proposed to my wife here. I think that night cost about $300 (the wine was about 1/3rd of that). They may already be booked for Valentine's day; make reservations early if possible.
The Melting Pot is another good date restaurant. It's a nice place and not too expensive. I think it's kind of a strange concept to make me cook my own food and then charge me for it, but the wife loves it.
Crap dude. I am sure all the good places are booked solid.
Try Bella Bistro in Arvada. Absolutley awesome. Prepared dishes right in fornt of you if you sit at the Chef's bar. Cozy nice place with good food and decent prices.
If you like steak, Black Hat is my favorite.
You could hit the Wilderness Pub in Boulder if she likes beer...
Downtown is not my thing, but I do like Brooklyns and Wynkoop.

Melting pot!!!
Another vote for The Melting Pot. It is at Santa Fe & Littleton Blvd. Also, don't forget to get a dozen roses delivered to her at work. This will assure that brown chicken brown cow will happen.

Stay home and cook for her. Go get some crab legs from costco and a pound of butter. Women love domesticated men.

That is a great idea, and one rose. A dozen says desperate, one says enough and shows you are wise with your money.

And you can always tell her that one rose symbolizes how she's the only one for you. Surprisingly, it works.

nice dinner, somewhere she likes, and some flowers/jewelry(earings, or necklace) rubies are always good for valentines
A pair of slippers, and a dildo. If she doesn't like the slippers, she can go fuck herself.

You guys have GOT to think outside the box. Take her out shoe-shopping, buy her some shoes, then go to a local restaurant that was on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". Have the flowers put in a vase out in the open while you're both gone. Full of Win.
and.... you'll get a special reward that night in bed.

How true, but at least it is mildly more entertaining, and much less depressing, than watching the news.

Went to Venice Ristorante last night. Amazing Italian and probably some of the best service I have ever had. It's at holly and orchard. I would highly recommend.

edit: Never mind
Most good restaurants are booked weeks in advance for Valentine's Day. Do yourself a favor and start calling around to the suggested places and see if there's an opening. Do not make the mistake of going in on the fly and having to wait for over 45 minutes. There is no return from a botched Valentine's Day dinner, even if you are serving up Bruce Willis on the big screen afterward.
I saw a suggestion to make a dinner yourself, and I second that. Go for seafood, or a couple of nice steaks and some asparagus (on sale this week at Sprouts, so take advantage) and mix up some nice herbed butter for the meat. It's not to prove you're domesticated. It's to show you care about your lady and you are demonstrating this by cooking for her. She likes Die Hard? Excellent! Get some chocolates and sneak them into the theatre and slip her a chocolate every time Bruce gets beaten up or smashes something. Make it fun, and have a great time. Next year, if you want to go out somewhere for Valentine's day, book a restuarant no later than mid-January.

Hillarious. Some great and not so great suggestions.
My recommendations: Do something special for her you wouldn't normally do. One flower given at the right time on your knees, take a bath together and wash her feet, offer to wash her hair for her, give her a nice massage, I hate to say it, but yeah.. take her shoe shopping and tell her you want her to find a pair she really likes. Women know we hate going shoe shopping with them so your patience and attention will mean a lot. A small thoughtful gift nicely wrapped (don't do it yourself) and cook her a nice dinner, unless you do that often and never take her out, in which case. Good luck, you procrastinated. Do you know what her "favorites" are? Go above and beyond with the chivalry. Open the doors for her, pull out her chair, if you cook her dinner, pick up the plates and wash them afterwards. Champagne is a nice touch... and above all else, at the right time, tell her she's special to you and you're happy to be with her on that special day.

I'll throw Maggiano's in for consideration, if you like Italian. It's very nice, won't break the bank, but isn't cheap either. They have two locations, one downtown and one in the Tech Center. It's my wife's favorite Italian place in town. But, as has been mentioned, reservations might be hard to get now.
The Rodizio Grill fills that gap between steakhouse and black-tie. Upper crust enough to make you seem a little more cultured than the average dog, but doesn't require a suit jacket at the door. :-) It's about $40 a plate on average. Plus, it's close enough to 16th St that you can stroll around and admire the wildlife afterward. (While armed to the teeth, of course. I view it as akin to going on safari in an urban setting... grin)

The Broncos usually do so well in the 4th, though! [ROFL1]
Thanks for the suggestions- I was originally planning on cooking for her, but as good a cook as I am I really didn't feel like cooking this time around- I want us to be waited on. I called just about every place suggested, and there's nothing available- yep Buffalobo- shouldn't have waited- but we just made the decision to do Valentine's Day on Sunday, kinda corny but I asked her if she would be my valentine. Got reservations at Macaroni Grill... now just need to get some chocolates- DSB, where would one get the chocolates you posted? [Beer]
