Both my wife and I are getting CCW permits and I wanted to find a gun we both could carry. She has a problem due to her wrists with pulling back the slide on my XD. Her big pistol is a S&W 357, but she uses the 38 call ammo as she doesnt like the big recoil. That helped develop the criteria:

1) The recoil had to be less than most
2) The slide needed to be easy for her. She couldn't do mine (Locked breech vs Blowback design)
3) It had to be small enough to fit in a pocket if needed

I am an engineer and get really anal researching things. So I looked at many different hand guns read the reviews picked one and then compared it to many others, then switched picks. I did this many times over the last week until I came to the Sig P238. I went out and comapred it to many other guns in reviews. Was wanting a Walther PPK that was advertized on armslist, but it didnt compare to the criteria. The sig had a problem pre 2012 with some ejection problems due to a faulty spring. Since then the only complaint I read is by folks who don't feel a 38 is an effective defense.

So I bought one last night brand new on Gunbroker and unlike my AR-15, it was $100 below MSRP and new with a lifetime warranty. The reviews indicated pretty good customer service.

There are some negatives relative to CCW as its a single action. That doesnt concern me

We will see how it works after we get our Permits and maybe but another one

Can't wait to get it and take it to the range. From the ad:

This P238 features a TFO front fiber optic tritium night sight, standard SigLite rear night sight, black finish with nickel accents as well as Hogue rubber grips stamped Sig Sauer from the factory! It comes with two magazines: one extended 7-shot mag and one standard 6-shot mag. Includes holster and factory fitted hard storage case

The Sig P238 is great pistol. I have been thinking about picking one of these up for my wife too.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it?

$640 delivered with no tax. That was the winning auction price. Apparently there was a big sale a year ago of around $500, but MSRP is $735. The value of a good price is really up to the guy who forks out the dough :)

I've got a couple of these myself. Like them as a back-up or just for that warm weather hanging around carry. Congrats!

Good choice. Why wait? Go out and shoot it.

The SAO P238 does give you the most accurate and reliable little pocket .380 auto on the market. I got one for the wife and while she has shot it, does not yet have her CHP so until I get a P938, it was my summer carry last year. So easy to slide it into a slip in or shoot through holster and slide it into a front pocket if you aren't setup for an IWB. Highly concealable.

One nice feature of the P238 is that you can cock and safe it before inserting a mag, and rack the slide with the safety on to chamber a round. It's kinda-sorta-1911 manual of arms, but not quite the same. In many respects, safer for a beginner. :D

I would but waiting for the probation tag to go away so I can see that section. I think 30 days is up today

I have to wait to shoot it till I get it from my FFL. They should have the pistol tomorrow and then the paperwork. Hopefully this will go faster than with my AR-15 which went into delayed status for 3 days with no explanation

I've looked at them at Potestio Bros in Parker, nice looking little guns, look to be great quality. But, didn't need another .380, and my Bersa was half the price. I was impressed with them though, right up there with the Colt Mustang IMO.

The P238 are nice little pistols, almost too small for the average "Man Hands". The wrap around grips and the 7 round mag with the grip extension will help. But do to the small size and light weight, the recoil is more noticeable compared to a slightly larger pistol in the same caliber.
My wife has the same problem with her wrists, but can operate the slide on the P238. And she loves shooting hers.

I bought one not long after they were released, and like it.

If you want to dress it up check out these http://shop.thefinergrain.com/category.sc?categoryId=19

Update, we now have two of these sport models. Awesome little pistol. I was debating the P938 9mm for me, but after handling it, the small difference in size made me stick with this one. I know there are those that don't think the .380 small pistols have enough stopping power. That seems to be a debate that goes on in many forums.

My wife and I have been shooting these at the range for the last few months and they are great. Racking the slide is easy for her. She had a hard time with the XD. Also, the kick isn't too bad. She really likes it.

Whats funny is every time we go to the range someone wants to buy our pistol or pulls one out to show us they have one to.

I really like the Hoge grips and the extended mag which gives more room for the hand, a place for your pinky. This is the sportsman model which I have only found on Gunbroker. I bought some extra extended mags.
