As far as I can tell, this has never been done on this site. I have done it on a number of other firearms sites, and it seems to work out well. If any of the moderators or admin (managers) have a problem with this, let me know.

I have ran out of local kids. All the ones I know, already have something.

Anyway, this is a giveaway of a 22 caliber, bolt action, single shot, rifle. It is a Savage Model -3C with a 24 inch barrel, overall length approx 42 inches. It has been around a LONG time, possibly since the 40’s, but still has plenty of rifling in the barrel. Being as old as it is, if this rifle could talk, I bet it would have some stories to tell.

The rifle is nothing fancy, but shoots well. Iron sights, no scope (in my opinion) the way a young one should learn to shoot. One shot at a time, concentrating on accuracy.

So, to the rules. (edit) This thread is for BOYS ONLY.
Girls can enter on the other thread
1. If you happen to be a previous winner of ANY firearm, please don’t enter, let’s pass it around.
2. I would like this rifle to go to a child that does not already have any firearm. Honor system.
3. What age child? Thinking about 8-12, this is negotiable.
You know, better than I, if your child is responsible enough for a firearm or not.
4. You must be an active participant in this forum to nominate the child. My judgment.
5. Can be, but does not have to be, your child, grandchild. Can be a niece, nephew, friends kid, etc.
6. Tell us a little about the kid, and why you think he/she should get it. (Mandatory) Don't need a life history, but "Please enter Brian." ain't gonna make it.
7. I will end this when I feel like it.
8. I will need (signed) parents permission.
9. This is for Colorado residents ONLY.
10. Since this IS for ANY kid in Colorado, I am quoting from the BATF FAQ website (the pertinent part) just in case it needs to be shipped. (FTF is in the Denver metro area)

If you are not comfortable receiving the rifle, without going through an FFL, don’t nominate anyone. Not using an FFL is perfectly legal, and looked at by the BATF, as a same state sale.

(quote)(B7) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?
A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State.(/quote)

Parents, if you are not willing to take the kid shooting, at least a few times per summer, don’t enter. Please don’t enter “just because it is free” lets get this to a child that (along with the parents) is going to put it to good use. I hope this rifle gives YEARS of enjoyment to the winner.

If no one else donates eyes and ears, I will make sure that the winner gets at least some safety glasses and foam ear plugs, if they do not have anything.

KIDS ARE OUR FUTURE.

I would like to nominate my friend Tony's son Anthony! Anthony is 10 years old and has inherited his fathers love of firearms. This kid is sharp as a tack! Anthony sees his dad who was a Deputy Sheriff in OK city years ago as a hero, and he wants to be in the Army when he grows up. He has been itching to go out with his dad and myself to go shooting for his first time, and has fallen in love with my AR. Tony was looking for a .22 for Anthony for X-mas, but funds are pretty limited, and with dad just switching jobs and taking a paycut, its not looking like he will be able to get Anthony anything anytime soon.

I know Tony would sign for a rifle for his son, and would feel forever in debt for helping him do what every father should do by giving his son the opertunity to learn basic marksmanship!

I would like to nominate my son Kiyoto. Kiyoto is 9 years old and is a great kid, he truly deserves more than I can provide to him. He's always been great in academics and so-so in sports, except when it came to shooting. Unfortunately, I don't own a rifle or pistol that suits his needs (we always borrowed a friend's .22 pistol or .17 rifle) and since I fell ill last year, he hasn't had the opportunity to go shooting. My friend, understandably doesn't feel comfortable loaning out his gun when he or I won't be there. My wife would take him, but he can't really handle the recoil/weight of an AK or .45ACP. I feel terrible for him since it seems that the one sport it looked like he was really going to be good at ended before he could really start sharpening his skills as a marksman.

On a side note, if Kiyoto is not selected, I may be able to round up a few rounds of mix/matched .22LR for this.

I would nominate my daughter, but she will only go shooting with me if I buy her the "pink rifle". Gander mountain has them for $119.

This is a great idea. Since I own the joint, I say carry on.

I used to be the shooting sports director for the local Boy Scout council. We are always looking for a single shot bolt action rifle, as technically, it is the only type authorized for official BSA shooting.

I'm sure you'll find a good place to adopt it out. If not, then I know exactly where I could help you donate it too.

Thanks for doing this. I would nominate Dozer but, that opposable thumb thing has Him stumped.

I'd nominate my grandson, but he's a little young yet - only 7 months old. Besides I'm already acquiring new firearms just so he'll inherit them someday (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it).

Great idea, though. Glad to see it.

Pretty cool! My first gun was a .22 Remington 514 single shot bolt action that I inherited from my grandfather. I used to be able to outshoot my friends with their semi-autos with that rifle.

I'll nominate my girlfriend's son Tyler. He's 7 years old and has been through a fair amount of shit in his life so far. Right now he's visiting his dad (with his two older sisters) in Texas, but in the past said dad has had alcohol and drug issues, stole meds from his ex-wife (my gf), and generally made life pretty crazy for everyone. He's not involved in Tyler's life at all, and lost his guns to other family members when he got all cracked out a couple years ago. I have a .22 levergun and a MkII that we're planning on taking Tyler out with, plus my gf's little BB gun, at some point this summer, but it would be cool for him to have his own rifle. :) We (read "me") will be keeping it stored responsibly until he's a bit older, but it's time for him to get out to the range with us and learn to shoot. :)

I'm only 23 and am not looking to become the father figure at all, but between me and Ty's grandpa (stepgrandpa, really), we're the only responsible male adult figures in his life so we'll do what we gotta do.
