Hello, i'm new to the forums and new to rifle shooting also. I have always been a pistol shooter but last weekend, a friend let me shoot his 30-06 M1garand with open/iron sights. That experience got me hooked! Read several forums and decided I wanted to get a fairly decent starter/begginer rifle in .308 flavor for sniping/ bullseye shooting. By monday, I had bought a Remington 700 .308 rifle with an inexpensive 6.5-22x50 scope (along with all the other accessories and neccessities)

My question is, what competitions can I join to improve my rifle shooting skill? Any info about categories (f-class, ft class, high power) and where my 308 belongs? websites and pictures would be appreciated... TIA

prairie dog/ sniper match is always a fun way to improve your skills. theres a thread all about it about half way down the page.

Zack Smith (he's a member here) and his group do tactical shoots.

I wish I had the time and money to persue such activities.

There are also High Power and Service Rifle matches all over the place. Most guys are shooting .223's now, but .308 and .30-06 are allowed.

No running in High Power, and it's definitely more of a zen kind of deal.

Consider contacting the Buffalo Creek Gun Club (http://www.bcgc.com/club/) if you want to check it out.
