Doesn't really belong in military rifles or precision long range sub-forums, so I guess I'll ask the question here.
I saw a 16" Rossi m92 in .45 Colt at the fun store today. Looks like a cool little brush popper. Trouble is, I have always been a Marlin guy. I'm not familiar with this action (I know it's a Winchester knock-off). Wood looked good, bluing looked good.... saddle ring all the cool kids have and decent buckhorn sights that take me back to the day...
I already cast and load for .45 Colt. Any issues with the high end "Ruger only" loads? They make one of these in .454, so I imagine the action can handle hot .45 Colt. I'll probably just stick to standard pressure loads, but it would be nice to know there's room to go up.
Any issues with a hardcast lead bullet? Standard Ballard type rifling? Ejection issues (.45 Colt has a small rim, but it's never mattered on my single action guns)?
Any thoughts / experiences would be appreciated.
Here's the one...

It's based on the Win 92 action. I bet it'll handle the hotter Ruger only 45LC loads. I just picked up the 20" in 454 casull, but have yet to fire it. The action was sticky and rough. I took it down and polished the parts inside. I got on the Steves Gunz site and bought the peep site that replaces the awful safety on the bolt, his ejector spring, and the aluminum follower. She runs a ton smoother now. Ejects shells fine on a dry run, but not sure about spent shells yet. I really need to take it out!
I'm sure someone else on here has input on it (Jim).

Me?
Great rifles i have the older non-safety versions. With my hand loads 38/357 people think they are shooting a 22. I've owned a few marlin 38/357's very nice rifles. When i was offered a lot of money for them, off they went. I have an opportunity to acquire another rossi lever, maybe. If that's a caliber you like and there is one available buy it.
Me?
Uh huh.
I'm tempted to get a 44mag as well, but I'll wait until after I get to fire the 454.

I have two. One in .44 mag and one in .357/.38special. The .44 mag leaves a bruise on my shoulder after 12 rounds. I begin to flinch in anticipation of the pain after about 6 rounds. It hurts to shoot and that's why I found one in .357/.38 special. It's much more pleasant to shoot than the .44 mag.
I do love them both. Just because of the 'cowboy' feel. I'm very happy for the money. Both of mine, especially the .44 mag, needed some break in. I'd buy another if I found one I wanted. I'd say go for it. They are easy to resell as they make them in batches. They are everywhere then nowhere. I spent months tracking down one in .357/.38 special and I jumped on the one I found when it popped up on Gunbroker. I over paid a hair but I'm ok with that because they are relatively cheap to begin with.
I've considered selling the .44 mag but I'm gonna wait until I find a similar one in .357/.38 special. It's the round 20" round barrel in stainless and the new .357/.38 special is a 20" round barrel in blue.
I had one years ago. I used to shoot cowboy action matches with. Never had an issue with it. I did have to do a little polishing on the internals since it was stiff as hell out of the box. It was an excellent shooter out to about 50 yards. Never really tried it past that distance. Mine was old enough it didn't have that silly safety like the newer ones.

The safety is pretty chinsy. I doubt I'll ever use it.
I think it's on the hammer, right? You might be able to replace the hammer with one for an older model.

Nah, it's on the receiver. Meatman makes mention of a peep sight that replaces the stupid thing. Sounds interesting, but I do love those true buckhorn sights.

Yep... I'll stick with the buckhorns. Peep sights look ok on my Marlin (Skinner sights), but that just looks wrong to me for some reason.

Steve's also offers this plug (http://store.stevesgunz.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=4) as an option to the ugly safety or sight.

Ordered one a couple weeks ago in .357 and it showed up at my FFL today. Just waiting on the BGC now.
Absolutely no experience with them, but you're welcome to shoot it anytime.

I know where there is a stainless sitting on a LGS shelf.
