Sorry folks, not going to read 26 pages and counting on the forum...

So, are the universal background checks and hi-cap magazine laws look like they are going to pass or be defeated?

Please tell me good news...!

They were guaranteed to pass before they hit committee. But I appreciate the resistance put forth by the people who showed up opposing today. This is too good for too many political careers - it's an easy PR storm to cash in. Colorado turned California years ago.

UBC passed committee with a 7-4 party line vote. No other votes have been taken.

How do they implement UBC's?

My advice... make friends with somebody out of state who can ship... assorted chocolates and collectible trinkets... to you when necessary. Stock up like hell now. And then do as I intend to, and move in a year or two. This horseshit has less chance of passing federally. (Not guaranteed - just less of a chance.)

Not sure yet, but I would recommend picking up whatever you want now. The current Colorado 4473 isn't as invasive as I once thought (thanks to some info from FFL forum members), and there's still plenty of decent deals to be had on Armslist and on the forum here. UBC's will be tantamount to registration and will undoubtedly tie your SSN to the SN on the gun.

If they do pass it and do manage to keep their jobs come election time. Then Colorado is lost.

You obviously don't realize the SSN is OPTIONAL. Perhaps less hysteria and more 4473 knowledge is a suggestion. No one makes you give your SSN, it is there to facilitate speedier approval if you have a common last name OR have been delayed before, because someone shares a similar name, but is unable to pass.

Yes. House education committee hears HB 1226 tomorrow. Also house finance hears HB 1228 about paying for our own background checks tomorrow.

This is what it feels like to loose freedom. It must have been what Germany felt like under Hitler or Russia under Lenin, Stalin and many others. To have the freedom not given up but tricked into submission and blame us for it. This is always what happens when a Government gets to big for its own britches.

With the democratic majority, what chance is there than any of these bills will fail?

Considering the initial votes tonight were in favor of gun control legislation I'd say it's very likely the mag limits will pass. I started applying for out of state jobs a couple days ago, looks like I'll be applying for many more in the coming weeks.

I've been listening to the proceedings and looking at job postings in Wyoming and Utah.

I'm not giving up, giving in, or conceding yet, but has anyone read the wording of the mag capacity legislation? I assume if it passes Brownell's will not ship me my P229 15-rnd mags I ordered months ago- but will I be able to keep my factory magazines that came with my firearm?

1) Assume
2) your moving, so no worries.

On your feet or on your knees. How you choose to live, what you choose to comply with is.... your own choice.

Moving is not set in stone- it hinges on a lot of factors... plus with a new GF she has already said she's not cool with living in MT or ID... Sorry Carl, looks like we might not get to be neighbors. [Coffee]
And I probably speak for everyone here: "I'd rather die standing for what I believe than live on my knees."

My hope is that 2 of the Democrats on the approprations committie will see fit to kill both hb 1224 and hb 1228 will die in said committie. I have written my rep and senator and spoke with my rep in person. If you are able (I know how life can get busy) go down and speak to your rep and senator face to face. If not letters and emails get the point accross too. And don't be afraid to talk to other reps also just because you don't live in their district dosn't mean you don't have a right to voice your opinion. Let's kill these bills before we have to challenge them in courts.

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton

Please replace "Brixton" with "Colorado" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hiQoq-wqZxg Love the F'in Clash...

Without starting a new thread:

HB 1228 Tax on gun purchases.

So I really don't have any more items I "need" to purchase and will probably just boycott the tax by not purchasing anything If I can help it. If everyone does this, will CBI layoff folks that they cannot pay for?

Just thinking out loud I guess.

way it is written they will raise the fees if not generating enough to pay for CBI. Don't worry, nobody will lose their job...

I spoke with my Rep (D-Tochtrop) for about 25 minutes today. She seems fairly down to earth and fairly moderate in her views. She did state that she didn't feel that there have been enough objective discussions on the subjects and did state Fields has had her proposals drafted for quite a while. She also stated that she and her colleagues are concerned about the levels of extreme opinions on either side of the subject. She gave me the impression that she would support the background checks and firearm purchasers paying for BGC.
She did agree with me that a mag ban would accomplish nothing and said she is unsure on campus carry.
Not what I wanted to hear really but at least a fairly honest answer and she does seem to view the subject somewhat objectively.
Unfortunately I cannot make tomorrow at the Capitol.
If you can go, please do. A show of numbers makes a compelling point.

Plus I hear that PMags are date stamped, so if the 30 round mag ban does pass that's an additional problem.

The month and year the body was molded is in each PMag. Look for a small round circle with a number in the middle (year) and an arrow pointing to a number on the outer edge (month).
