This beyond pisses me off! I wish they had a feedback section! Nothing worse than agreeing to a deal and then the jack ass sells it out from under you!
I hope Dudley reads this, not a good reflection of the members he is attracting!!!! Beware of this buyer/seller, he is a flake! (I know, not his fault and there is no way to control it, maybe he will give him a time out)

After a long conversation about his pistol, he said I was the first to respond and I could buy the gun. I ask him to recap our phone conversation of where and when he wanted to meet. Below is our email exchange.
Was I not clear that I wanted this gun? I even agreed to a BOS!![Mad][Rant1]

His email last night:
Shawn,

Per our phone call, I will meet you tomorrow at Southlands Mall (E470 and Smokey Hill RD) at 7:00PM in the Wells Fargo Bank parking lot. Please provide your full name and CO License info (Driver License number and address) so I may include it in the Bill of Sale. Should something come up, please call me at303653 (tel:3036535235)XXXX; otherwise, I will see you at 7pm.

Ben

My email last night:
Shawn D. Christensen3501 W XXXXXXX
Westminster CO, 80031

CO DL # 06-XXXXXXXXX

Ben just to be clear on your ammo you are adding to this deal. Are you including 6 boxes of ammo as well?
4x50 Federal HST HP 230gr as well as 2x50 Winchester White box FMJ

His response this morning:

That is correct. The box count is as follows: 2x50 HST, 2x50 Hydra-Shock (1st Gen HST) and 2x50 Winchester FMJ
Should you want to pass, let me know. I have someone else asking for the deal at $1175.
Sent from my HTC Inspire™ 4G on AT&T

My Response this morning:

Nope, I want it for sure. See you tonight.

Sorry for spelling your name wrong Ben in a previous email. My apologizes. Thank you for not selling to the new offer and keeping your original deal, I have been looking for a nice 1911.See you tonight, have a great day.
Shawn
303- (tel:303-909-6211)XXX-XXXX

His Response this morning:

Shawn,

I apologize for backing out of this transaction; however, I sold the pistol this morning for $1300.00.

Thanks,

Ben

My Response this morning:

I guess a mans word is worth nothing anymore. What a shame.

Shawn

I can relate. I had an offer in on something through Coloradogunmarket via an email thread, and the seller said "it's yours". We started to coordinate timing and realized it was going to be about 48 hours before we could meet. He emailed me 12hrs later, saying sorry he sold it to another guy who could meet sooner.

Better luck next time.

Agreed. What is this jerks SN on cogunmarket? Sadly, RMGO doesn't have a feedback thread like we do, but maybe Dudley can add this feature in time.

Based on what you wrote for the full name, drivers license number, and address, I wouldn't be surprised to see you get new and interesting things on your credit report and that this was a scam sale just for identity theft.

I'll never do a buy where someone requires that kind of personal information.

That sucks. Happens all to often, even on here. Never give your info out. Fuck that. Too many scammers and identity theft issues. The little bit of money saved on a decent deal is not worth it.

Nah.. once you calm down, you'll realize you don't want to deal with this individual anymore including potential litigation because you post his private info etc. I am sorry to hear what you had to deal with. This is why I stick w/ ar-15.co members w/ feedback.

I had the exact same thing happe to me with a stripped upper. 99% of the folks on this board are good people and keep their word. But there's that 1% you have to avoid. Make sure you post negative feedback so others of us can aviod doing business with members like this.

So, I have a question, and it just seems to continue to confuse me.

We have thread after thread about bad deals, bad experiences, bad dealing, deals gone bad, deals changed, people blown off after making a commitment, people not getting responses from emails sent in regards to a for sale ad and all of these threads are how bad every other site, forum, auction site, ...etc. are. So, the question is, WHY DO YOU ALL CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH AND WORK WITH THESE OTHER SITES AND CONTINUE TO DEAL WITH THE FLAKES??

It does suck that people will not keep their word and it seems(like in this case) money far outweighs a mans word nowadays, which is unfortunate. Personally, like others have mentioned, I would never deal with a private party that I DIDNT KNOW and give then the information that was asked above, at a store where a back ground check is required that is one thing and I dont have a problem with that, but not a private party sale with someone I've never met.

I see the appeal of having other resources to look for firearms for sale but not many other local sites/forums have a feedback section and no other site/forum has the group that we have here. The feedback section here and the comradery here helps hold people accountable for their actions a little more than most of the other local sources.

So help me understand why so many folks keep going through the brain damage of dealing with these flakes from other sites?

I knew, when I was selling my AR a few weeks back on this forum, that I was selling it at a very reasonable price. That was confirmed by the sheer number of people and high offers I received after listing it. I could have easily sold it for more (I received offers up to $400 more than what I was asking), but I sold it to the first person who responded to the post at my originally requested price. Would I like to have that extra $400 right now? Absolutely! However, a man's word is his bond. If I can't honor my word... then I have no honor.

That would piss me off too. I have listed a few things too cheap before without realizing it but if I agree to a sale I always follow through even if I realize I listed it too cheap later.

I've been buying/selling on cologunmarket longer than on here.... most of the folks I've met on cologunmarket weren't flakes, just one, but I've not sold anything on there in years. Only on here since 2011, but have still bought a couple things elsewhere. I'm sure the recent influx of the population buying/selling stuff has increased the number of flakes, but sometimes good deals can still be found from good folks.

That being said, this is still my go to and first preference, all around.

"A man's word" means nothing unless you personally know the man, and you don't, you know a screen name. Your comments will not deter them from doing it again in the future. "HEY lilbitchofaman, I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT ALL YOU HAVE IS YOUR WORD."

Move on. Realize you're going to find that a lot on Armslist and CO Gun Market so keep that in mind when dealing on those sites. The ability to leave feedback keeps people a little more honest.

This was a very good deal and after talking to him for a while over the phone he seemed to be legit. Won't happen again. I have done business on RMGO before, both sold and bought. I try to list stuff here first, but if there are no takers I go there.
Your point is well taken.

Boost their post count? You see time after time "got screwed on AL, COGM, GB etc" yet people will still do deals and bitch when it goes south. i AM Appalled you would not only offer your personal info to someone you don't know but do it prior to an actual deal. that reeks of ID Theft.
BTW: n8tive97 what's your D.O.B?

I still troll Armslist as often as I check the TP here - have met plenty of decent guys (and make a point at each transaction to give them the address here, and offer it as a better alternative to the sleaze on AL.) and found lots of good deals. I just happen to be either lucky, or sufficiently paranoid in my vetting process, to have not had any real nightmare interactions on there. Transacting on a free-for-all like AL is always a crapshoot, and you have to be prepared to deal with it. That said, I've come to respect and enjoy most of the personalities I've met on here, and always make an effort to sell here first. You guys get the Dingo-discount. :-) (Sounds like a used-car salespitch... eh?)

Agreed. Consider contacting the 3 major credit reporting agencies and issue a fraud alert. You may not have been a victim of a douche backing out of a deal, you may be a victim of identity theft.

I see both sides of this way to often, had plenty of deals where I went and got the cash, etc etc and then was ignored or told it was already sold. Also have found myself sitting in parking lots waiting for people that never show and don't answer txt's or phone calls to tell you they are not showing.

Better yet is when I am selling something and agree to a price, then have them come back before the meet or at the meet and say they only have X amount when we agreed on Y amount.

Had a yahoo from armslist last week try to low ball and told him sorry my lowest price was X, few days later comes back and asks if I still have it, says he now wants it and can meet same day. Tell him where we can meet and everything, then comes back with offer below what we just agreed to. Do they think that because now we have a meet set that we suddenly will drop the price?

I really wish kids these days could be brought up the old school way. Seems since you can't punish a kid anymore they have no reason to be responsible and realize that your word should mean something.

From the dealings I have had here so far it seems we have a great group of people and make the Trading area one to be proud of.

I've had three deals go south in the last year, all similar to Shawn's setback. The one thing I learned? Let it go. Not a damn thing that can be done and that's a hard pill to swallow. It sucks royally, but after getting screwed into the ceiling a couple of times, I decided I wasn't about to let some donkey-punchin' reject with an expired man-card ruin my day through his lack of integrity. Me? My word is my bond. I give it, that's that....done deal. No higher offers, no bribes, no favors, even if I lose out in the end.

BTW, Shawn's GTG....feedback coming your way brother!
