View Full Version : Anyone heard of CMMG.
Came across these a local shop(The Gun Room). He claims there the best M-4 out there. http://www.cmmginc.com/

Its hardly the best, it is more likely the company they could afford to be a stocking dealer for. I have no experience with their lowers but the uppers I have seen have been ok.
Here is their forum on AR15.com

I take it the Gun Room has devoted a section to black rifles? Or is this in their used consignment section?
You will need to have some idea what you are looking for.
1. Barrel twist 1/7, 1/9, etc....
2. Chrome lined bore?
3. Commercial or Milspec buffer tube?
4. Type of barrel steel 4150, 4140?
5. Any number of other questions you might ask which in truth might be unnecessary but nice to know.
They have both sections of black,AKs and all the other goodies. CMMG's are new for $995.00

I can not say anything bad about them, and would not turn you away, but I am not sure I would spend that kind of money for one. In fact I know I wouldn't but that is irrelevant to your question. Is this a first AR for you?
of course it's "the best", he's a retailer and he's selling it.
get an unbiased oppinion, or at least get to know the guy before you take his word blindly.
usual disclaimers, YMMV
Just mid level guns good not the best not the worst lowers are good. Don't think they forge their own stuff. The web site shows a keyhole upper which every one uses. Barrels have no idea who makes them. Guess Wilson or ER Shaw.
$995 is too high for an AR. You need to get with some of these guys in Denver and they can guide you in building a good AR for about $600.00 and then donate the extra $400 to your Ammo supply.
For a little more $$ a 1/8 twist is a good all around start for a barrel, WOA 18" SPR barrel is a great barrel.
I'll second the notion that the price is too high. CMMG is in that mid level arena - RRA, STAG, Bushmaster .. $750-900 new. There are better folks in the area to buy from.. Alan, 5280, Jensens (Loveland) or just do your research and either build or buy online and have it shipped in.
They work just fine.
If you really care what is written on the side of a gun, then they might not be for you. If you just want an AR that is reliable and reasonably accurate, they are good.
I picked up one of their 10.5 uppers a while back and it runs 100%. Smacking a 12 inch plate at 425 yards is very doable.

Earlier this year they had complete rifles/carbine on special for $650.
I've read quite a few posts about their rifles on another non AR rifle forum (read Not Arf)
The guys who bought the $650 carbines were happy with them mainly because of the price.
Aren't they are also the guys who torture tested their class III carbine on youtube by firing something like 5000 rounds of full auto and throwing it into a puddle to cool it off every now and then?
Some people still believe that the AR is not a reliable platform.

they were $585.00 I have two of them, but they were not their weapon's they were parts guns mostly dpms, some parts were new some used. their employees built during their downtime, both of mine are as reliable and accurate as any other 16" ar I own. http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7769
Get a hold of ready room he has some CMMG uppers for sell I believe.

I have one CMMG upper kit sans handguards. Flat top, 1/9 chrome moly, has their WASP finish. Includes complete bolt assembly. I'll let it go for $350.

I think I have a set of used car-length handguards I can donate to the cause if you buy if you buy Ready Room's upper.
I own 2 RRA's aleady and love them. Sales guy told me they are made of tuffer steal, better for full auto. Sounds like there is a big price difference in CMMG's retailers.
I would just build the weapon from Ready Room. Thats an AR for under $500.00
BS they have the same mil spec parts as every one else Ready Rooms upper is a steal If you don't want it I try to trade him out of it
