OK...not bitching about how or what a guy chooses to sell. But I'm curious. Why sell an upper without the BCG or charging handle? Is it to make more $$ by selling them separately or because the parts are so scarce?
I've seen several uppers I would've bought had they been ready to put on a gun. It's like selling a gun without a trigger or something.

I would not view it as bitching, more of an angered question.
I would vote for highlighted in blue as 80% of the reason. [Coffee]
You are missing nothing. It's not just you wondering.
But if you want to buy a 1911 without a slide I've got a deal for you. Just kidding. [ROFL2]

That about all you can get, an upper with out BCG, and that is few and far between. Buy two when they are available and sell one for a profit to use for a BCG at panic prices.

Not angry at all. Like I said...it's up to the person selling what he/she wants to sell and how they want to sell it. It just seems to me if I wanted to sell an upper receiver assembly it would be a lot more attractive if it was something that actually worked.

Yeah, no shit. I can see the ad now: "BNIB Colt 1911. Never fired, beautiful. Includes everything but the slide. $8000. FIRM!"
They bought it that way from PSA, and are trying to sell it for a few bucks more. The prepared will include a BCG for double.
8000?
I'm not cutting you a deal because you are part of the forum, starting bid is 10K. [ROFL3]

Well, trust me. I'm prepared. I just have a few lowers that I wouldn't mind putting an upper on. But an $800 upper without a BCG really doesn't do me a whole lotta good.

Ok lets say someone has a complete AR with a 20 inch barrel upper with a A2 receiver and front sights. He finds a good deal on upper with a 16 inch barrel with a flat top receiver and no front sight, which is what he really wanted anyway. He gets it cheaper without the bolt/bolt carrier assembly which he already has.
So now he just wants to get rid of an upper he never really liked anyhow.

Yeah, I get that. But there hasn't been a complete upper (that I've seen anyway) in the TP for a long time. It's not just the occasional upper that might fit into your scenario...it's every upper listed.
I'm guessing it's just the $$.

Amazingly still selling.

I wouldn't purchase an 80% more like a 65% upper.

I'm guilt of this. Did it a couple years ago. Same reason, bought an upper with no BCG. It was cheap. I sold the unused upper cheap. I should have sold it with the bolt, not everyone has the gauges to check head space.

Look how you sell something is your business. HOWEVER when you try and sell me something for a CMV WITHOUT important parts then advertised it as
NEW UNFIRED xxxxxxxxxxxxxx FOR $3K and include this NO BCG after wading through a list of acc i could care less about. Hey your ad your price Please do not advertise it a COMPLETE IF IT ISN'T.
Like selling condoms without lube and a closed end. Yeah they're great for the price, but i still want something that works OFF the Shelf

I heard recently that someone sold their AR in pieces for triple what it was "whole" (not on this forum)
So I'd say you are correct, they want to make more money.

I doubt headspacing would be an issue with quality US-made parts. Probably no need to worry about that.
I would worry about someone using cheap/imported parts from suspect sources just to make a quick $$. Too many AR-15 "armorers" out there these days.

This isn't new to the panic... Very common practice in some places.
Usually a sign to me the I should ignore it... Not always, but I don't buy a lot of complete uppers anyway.

I agree. There are many of us on this site that buy piece parts to guns all the time. Especially those of us that are competitive shooters.
Why? Many different reasons. I prefer the JP bolt, any number of different charging handles, etc.
Thanks for asking the question, I was wondering too why there seemed to be quite a few uppers for sale minus BCGs or the like!
