Laser range finder for long range shooting... 1500 yards at the least.
So what do you use?
So I'm in the market for one, but I am not willing or planning to spend over $1K for one. [Coffee]
[Beer]
I use a Leica Geovid, but dont range much stuff past 1200.
Vectronix Terrapin. Little overkill but repeatedly ranges bushes off hand at 3900 yds.

Step it off. 1 yard per step. That or tie a bunch of para cord together and stretch it out.
Jk though, subscribed for further education.

as I've mentioned on another thread... I have become dependent on the odometer on my vehicle and gps... when I tried shooting out to a mile I had to mil-out my buddy's vehicle to confirm I'm really out at a mile [ROFL1]

I'm looking for a LRF for the reason of wanting to participate in a Endurance Challenge someday... and really curious to what you guys are using. [Beer]

Here what I am planning on getting...
http://www.bushnell.com/tactical/laser-rangefinders/elite-1600-arc
Swarovski. It's ranged out to 1,900+. At roughly $900, it's a decent value. It is heavy, though.
The only laser under 1K worth considering is the Swaro monocular. Pretty much the rule of thumb is that in poor conditions you can range reliably to about 1/2 the advertised range capability . The Swaro is a proven performer out the 1200ish . The Bushnell has a very good laser but the glass is crap and the reticule is too dim in bright light backgrounds .
And by Bushnell I mean the new bino's, the monoculars are junk and not worth the money . They work ok for a couple months and then your lucky if they get past 400 yards .
I'm running Geovids right now and they are not reliable to 1K on poor condition days . The Terrain / PLRF05 is the shit and I'm saving pennies now , hopefully before Steel Safari this year .
the terrapin is hands down the best. its more expensive, but this is one area i can say the cost difference is actually worth the quality difference, its that big of a deal. that being said i won't spend that kind of dough on it, its just not worth it to me. to some it is.
in the affordable range there are a few options. the swaro is pretty nice. the zeiss i have had pretty good luck with. very light, ranges out to 1000 reliably, past that i have ranged out to 1500 it just gets tricky with smallish objects. the bushnell binos are good, you can range to far distances, but the glass is meh. not all that clear. the zeiss compared to the bushnell in clarity isn't even close, its way better. the binos are also heavy and have a wide beam so there is some variance in its ranging. so while you will get a range, it may not be THAT accurate. this also makes it tough to range small objects at farther distances. for my shooting purposes, the bushnell and zeiss have been fine because i only shoot a little past 1000 and i just want a fairly accurate measurement, it doesn't need to be precise. more higher end competition and stuff just wait and get the terrapin. its a tough pill to swallow but if you want to be THAT accurate and at THAT type of range, its your only option.

Holy shizznits... and this one I linked on here is the cheapest one [microwave]
I guess pushing my "I want" level to "1500 yards at the least" is a little over board for my budget.

I run the Bushnell Fusions (C Ward was referring to). I second just about everything C Ward said. The laser is great (2k yards on a good day, 1k+ on a bad), having the LRF built into a bino is awesome, price is good, and the display is too dim. I wouldn't throw these out of your list till you try some.
I think these are the best value currently available. The Terrapin is hands down awesome though...

Oh wow... that one looks sweet...
Here's something I found interesting...
mcXprhRbN0Y
so my question is: which beam (thin, fat, square, circle) would give you accurate/consistent results???
A lot of good reviews on the G7. But they are spendy.
The "Long Range Hunting" show uses/advertises them. Unless they are blowing smoke they routinely range animals out past 1000 yds -- which if you are a hunter -- know that is impressive.

I have the Swarovski. i can hit 1800 + meters on mine easy as long as the day isnt super sunny. 1200 all day everyday. I have actually used it even further, but thats just right conditions.
also, have had this monocular for 2 years now. still works like new.
the only downside to the swarovski, that I can see is... the reticle could be smaller to allow for super long distance ranging of small targets.
I was just testing mine this afternoon. 1688 meters off a moving semi doing 65+ mph. Not bad for $900. It will hit much further, but you have to hold it steady and it was a bit windy this afternoon.
yeah... I just jumped on one of these ( http://www.swarovskioptik.us/en_us/products/optronic-instruments ) online yesterday... I went to Firingline and took a peak through the glass... Holy sh*t! Glass is as clear as my S&B!
on the other hand... it was a plus meeting up with mikecharley and Sneakerd up there too [Beer]

Just got it today before heading out to work... this thing feels like a tank. farthest I've ranged so far was a car at 840 something yards.. and it was pretty darn quick to give me the readings. I also noticed while holding the button down and moving from one spot to another that it was still ranging things out... how neat is that? The glass is ridiculously clear. So far I like it... now time to get some new batteries and see how much button pushing will it take [Coffee]

...seriously curious...could care less bout civilians having this shit...just...I would only ever need to laze shit that far out for 1 of a few reasons..
Air strike.
auto-barrel-adjustment on my bradley's 25mm......
that's bout it.
Couldn't imagine taking a shot out to 1500yrds..

I'm planning to use this on the snipershide challenge (If I make it) to help out range targets in seconds.
At the same time... I do a lot of shooting up at Pawnee ranging from 100 out to a mile... yup, a mile... but never hit anything that far.... yet.
I've been using GPS off the phone and the odometer of my vehicle to range things out that far [LOL]
What makes it fun for me is I'm shooting .308 out that far.
I felt it was a tool I really needed for what I was doing [Beer]

By all means then mate, cheers.
Think my furthest shoot with a Bolt action rifle was just around 800yrds. I tried to push it further I just cant do it, not repeatibly.
I've hit a target at 1k, but I couldn't do it again, not even gonna pretend I'm captain awesome. 800 is my max.
Thats awesome you're engaging at 1mi.
Who cares if you miss....thats still one hell of an effort. Your hold over pattern must be ridiculous lol, aiming 4ft high :P

At 1,500 yards the drop on my .260 is 72 ft, not 4 ft.

Crazy I know.
Like what civilian would need a 30 round clip?
If your holding elevation its either a snap shot or your doing something wrong , thats what that knob on the top of the scope is for .
My 338 is good on man size targets to a mile and it sure is nice knowing how far out the target is because that far out the danger space is pretty much zilch .
This isn't about a good effort making a miss it's about hits . Did you get a GO on any task in the military for trying like hell but failing ?

I never said I cared if Civilians had them, I just couldn't understand what on earth you'd be engaging at that distance.
And yea!!! Crazy right!!!....is that like a 30 round magazine?
>_< Or it's the biggest extended "clip" for an M1 Garand.

So I spent some time lazing shit out today with this Swaro LRF and man am I glad I got this.
I was getting readings off people out to 700 plus yards, and over 1200 yards off cars and buildings.
I could only imagine what those $3K LRF can do...
.. but all in all, I'm happy with what I got [Beer]
