I was looking at adding a Burris XTR 1-4 on my mid length AR. I was curious if anybody has thoughts on this Optic.

Be prepared to send it back in for warranty if you buy one.
The TAC30 Fullfield 1x4 is a better scope. The only thing I don't like is the CQB reticle. You might be able to get them to change the reticle to the 5.56gen II ret, for a fee.

My good friend is one of the head engineers over there and they make a quality product for the price.

My other friend runs one on his FAL and loves it. It's fast, holds zero, good glass, quick zoom controls, I say it is an optic you should consider.

I was a scope repair tech over there. As long as I live, I will never buy another Burris product again. I have my reasons, and that is an entirely different subject.

Just wondering who your friend is that works there. I know they just lost their lead engineer, Doug, he retired and moved to Idaho.

I have the Tac and XTR. XTR is on the ol lady's ar, TAC on MVP.

I liked my TAC30 and the MTAC has just a little nicer knobs w/mil adjustments and better a illumination switch. Either is great for the money.
Also check out the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x. It is more like $499 but a good deal as well.

Between those 3 you have $300 / $400 / $500 price points. After that you get into FFP and +/-$1k scopes.

Vortex is the scope brand I buy now. I would love to be able to buy Nightforce, I just can't afford them right now.

I have the tac 30. The,reticle,is slightly canted on one. Im also not fond of the reticle at longer ranges. They work though, and the glass is clear.

It is Douger. He isn't fully retired, yet. I guess he is telecommuting for a while. I can see where your coming though. I had one of the first Black Diamonds. Loved that scope, 3 x 12, mil-dot. Anyhow, cross hair got canted on me, Burris said it couldn't be repaired. They offered a replacement, but the newer Black Diamond is different and in my opinion not as good. Probably going to send back in as the elevation must be taken up to about 80% just to zero.
You know after writing that, take jmg's advice, maybe look at the Vortex too.
