View Full Version : Today's Letter
I have been writing many letters each day to the CO state politicians, Reps, Senators, Leadership of the State GOP and Dems. Attorney General, Lt. Governor and Governor. I send a more focused letter to the Democrats in the House and then a more focused letter to the actual Legislaotrs who do (or are supposed to) represent my district at times as well.
Here is todays general letter in case anyone wants to use any sections, you are more than welcome:
I have met with and spoken with many of Colorado's Legislators in the last few weeks, I again thank-you for your time. I implore you to vote American and to support Colorado's ideals by voting AGAINST any bill that infringes on the ability of law abiding citizens to protect themselves in Colorado.
MagPul will certainly leave Colorado if HB1224 passes and is signed into law, and with them hundreds of jobs and incomes for nothing more than an emotional, ineffective response to the decay of our countries basic fabric. HB1224 will be legally challenged costing Colorado even more money, which we can not afford and which will not save one life.
Criminals will not obey the laws and neither will a lot of Coloradoans, criminalizing their constitutional rights is just wrong. Furthermore, being in the gun industry myself, most major suppliers have told me that they will not sell materials (equipment, supplies, ammo and magazines) to Colorado Law Enforcement if HB1224 becomes law.
As a highly trained shooter, a magazine limit will not affect me, I can reload faster than most people can shoot, however it will degrade the ability to defend themselves of people like my wife who is not highly trained and prefers lower caliber rounds but higher capacity.
Last, as the match director of the two largest shooting competitions in Colorado that bring families together on the range and spend their money on Colorado Tourism, these events can not occur in Colorado with such a law as HB1224.
You know HB1224 should not be law and the people of Colorado do not want it. Voting against HB1224 is the only right thing to do. Your votes on these bills will dictate whether I actively support you for reelection or do everything in my power to unseat you upon your next bid for office.
I am also adamantly against HB1226 as it renders one class of persons different from all others. That is not American, nor is it constitutional.
Please, vote with your rational thought and sober leadership and do not follow an emotionally driven bill drafted out of pain by Representative Fields.

Very well put. Good Job as always.
Thanks Mark, you have done a ton to support this/our cause but the light of hope is dim. It saddens me that this is the case but WTF, their agenda will be done.
He will not change his vote and he will be viewed as a "hero" by those who don't know what the real impact is. This sham of protective legislation will go on and continue to increase in scope and restrictions while the real issues are put aside because they are too hard to deal with.
I will stop here. Thanks to all who wrote letters and e-mails, went before the committees to testify and fought the good fight.

Well put! I think more personalized letters will have a greater impact also. Many have sent form letters in, and on the floor it was mentioned and the attitude towards them was not very good. Thumbs up for the personalization!

I wrote to Claire Levy saying I would hold her personally responsible for any violence I was subjected to while commuting to campus. I can forgive the thug, he's probably a product of a broken home and shitty school, she has no excuse.

excellent work, I also took the time to write my own letters to these cretins yesterday,
" We in Colorado will not stand for this infringement of our RIGHTS! these are not privileges you so graciously extend to us, they are in fact a RIGHT. I refuse to be oppressed by an overreaching state government. Please consider the following.
1. Magazine ban. Even most in your party realize that this does nothing at all to prevent crime or increase safety. Its only effect will be making criminals out of otherwise law abiding citizens and causing a loss of 100's of jobs and tax revenue you cherish so much due to the loss of Magpul, a Colorado company.
2. So called "universal" background checks. While I am not necessarily opposed to background checks for folks buying firearms, I am STRONGLY apposed to what amounts to registration of firearms. Again I will not tolerate statewide or other registration of firearms. Again we are not your subjects and this is not a privilege, its a right!
3. A Tax for gun owners to support a woefully inadequate and wholly unnecessary CBI bureaucracy. I am not sure what you people are trying to accomplish with this one, #1 it is unlawful, and unconstitutional to charge a tax for exercising ones rights. Secondly CBI is already unnecessary as there is already a national instacheck database utilized by the majority of states, CBI does nothing of value. To suggest we must be taxed to exercise a RIGHT to further support this useless drain on OUR tax dollars is adding insult to injury at best.
Please consider carefully your vote on these bills, the consequences for proud Coloradans will be great, and will no doubt make certain the Democratic party will never hold another majority in this state. Please stop trying to make this state into the mess of a place California is."
Don't forget to pound the issue of Columbia vs Heller and McDonald vs Chicago. In my opinion these two decisions are central to this anti-gun push. It makes the HB 1224 completely un-constitutional. McDonald vs Chicago plainly says that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights DO apply to the states (to include the 2nd amendment).
And Columbia vs Heller clarity says that We the People clearly are allowed to own what is common use at the time. 15 round mags for the AR are not common, in fact they do not exist. The 30 round mags that are sold by the thousands with these guns ARE what's common.
Also call rep fields and hound her for her tweet on the floor Friday.
Look at her tweet site. She said that she firmly believes that hi capacity magazines belong ONLY on the battlefield of war......yet she put exemptions for police in the bill. She is talking out both sides of her mouth and her words show that she clearly does not know what she is doing and has no business writing legislation.
See the constitution SAYS that We the People have the right to own what's common use at the time (Columbia vs Heller).
Then call Rep McLaughlin. On Friday he demonstrated his deceitfulness. He quoted part of Columbia vs Heller by saying that US Supreme Court said that the 2nd amendment is not absolute. That completely TRUE; however, how convenient that he left out the part of the same bill that makes the magazine bill unconstitutional.
These politicians are dirty. Call them and let them know we see through their ignorance and deceitfulness.
We all know that these bills will not reduce crime and only negatively effect us the law abiding people; however, they do not care. Those facts are not going to persuade them to vote no on the bill. The only things that might persuade them is cold hard numbers and facts. One of those facts is that HB1224 is un-constitutional. That bill will not withstand a constitutional challenge which if I can help it will be filed as soon as it becomes law.
Look up who Dave Kopel is. He knows the constitution and other gun statistics and said on Friday that the 40% that the Dems love to quote as the percentage of guns sales that are not getting background checks is false. He said that number is actually from before NICS was implemented. He said the real percentage is 11%.
We need to start calling the committee members on the Senate who will start debating this bill and say the FACTS do not support their emotionally charged push.
Plus we have a better chance to pursuade the Senate as it is 20-15 with the majority going to the Democrates.

This letter is written very eloquently. If we keep pushing, we can get enough NO votes!
Here is todays letter...
I have sent you several notes asking you to cease support of HB 1224, 1226, 1227 and 1229. Your constituents don't want these bills to become law! Passage of these laws will harm the economy and disarm or criminalize law abiding citizens. Furthermore, you are about to make Colorado the #1 tourist destination (and even home) for criminals. Legalization of pot and refusal to Pass Jessica's law have already increased the comfort level for criminals in Colorado, and now you want to infringe on Coloradoan's right to defend ourselves. The bills to increase penalties for fraud, criminal acts etc. have been summarily tabled defeated or postponed. Now you intend to disarms your constituents as well removing the protection and opening the gates for the criminals. Please do not follow the lead of party politics and emotion that will have absolutely no benefit for law abiding citizens of Colorado. Instead, be bold and lead with integrity and the uprising of support and thanks will be overwhelming.

Too bad only 3 of them listened to you Mark. I wonder how the other bill votes will go in the house.
I am hearing some squirming that College CCW might not pass, but I still think we are short on the votes. The other two will certainly pass.
FWIW, they did not listen to me, they listened to the overwhelming backlash from Coloradoans who took the time to make a difference and write, fax and call. We NEED tripple what we poured on the house to be FLOODED on the Senate.
