Have any of you ever read the Chtorr series by David Gerrold?
It is as far as I know still an unfinished series of books, but there focus is on respect, responsibility, and duty. They are sci-fi and are based on the concept that Earth has been invaded but we didn't even know it until it was way too late.
The main reason it bubbled back up in my consciousness was due to the meteor hits the past couple days. A quote from the book played itself in my head when I saw the first news footage, "It began in Russia. It took us awhile to notice..."
If you haven't read them, try to track them down, they were a very good read.
