View Full Version : How to Install Ambi Safety
I am looking for info on installing an ambi safety on my stag lower. This is my first attempt at replacing components on my rig. I *think* I have figured out how to do it, but I would like to verify this.
Can anyone point me to any info on doing this type of work, or recommend a good book that covers this type of work?
TIA

everyone should have a shop manual.
you just need to replace the safety as you would any other safety on the AR. (followed by a function test and extensive live fire testing at the range, say, oh.. a couple thousand rounds?) [Muaha]
I'll see if I can find a link to the manual (should be easy (finding the manual and doing the work))
Link to the manual (http://www.ar15.com/content/manuals/TM9-1005-319-23.pdf)
I did find some good info on AR15.com that helped fill in the blanks for me.

Clear the weapon.
Final step you place the weapon on safe.
Look inside the PG and see if you need a hex head or flat head screw driver to remove the PG screw.
Remove screw and lock washer
Removed PG.
The detent spring is inside the PG.
Turn the receiver so that the detent drops out. If it doesn't fall free, rotate the selector.
You can now pull out the selector.
All of the ambi I have seen involve a selector that is in two halves. You insert the left hand side, then the right hand is 'keyyed' to the left and attached, usually with a screw.
Insert the detent.
Insert spring into PG, put PG into place.
Reinstall PG screw w/lock washer.
Thanks for the detail Aloharover. The removing the PG was the key that I was missing. Your steps along with the assembly instructions I linked to above were all I needed.
thanks again.
