So I took out my new home build and it won't cycle the next round.

Wilson 24" Bull barrel
Lars OPS-4 with side charging bolt

I have checked the gas block and it flows air fine but the bolt seems to be not going back far enough to pick up the next round. It will ejected the spent case but will not pick up the next round. If I cycle it by hand it works fine.

When I put in one round it will fire and cycle back and get caught by the bolt catch but it is catching the bolt carrier not the bolt itself.

My thought is it's not getting enough gas for proper block back what does everyone else think?

Give Bert at BP Tactical a PM, email or call. He already has your problem solved and is just waiting for you to get in touch.

I tried a couple one was Freedom Ammo and the other was Remington factory both did the exact same thing.

Sounds like a short stroke, but the curious thing is the bolt catch performing properly.
Did you try different magazines?

Fixed stock?
If so make sure the top butt stock screw is not plugged up or even not drilled through

Fixed stock..The bolt catch is catching the carrier not the bolt itself. Tried a few magazines with the same result. There is a large scratch on the next round in the mag. I will look at the stock tomorrow and report back.

OK I checked the stock bolt and it is drilled. The gas port is .70 which from my readings seems a bit small.

I had the same issue when I built my bull barrel AR, I ended up taking it to the range, pulled the hand guard off, and proceeded to tweak the gas block ever so slightly until it cycled and now it runs flawlessly.
