I'm taking a vacation starting tonight....yes, its true! (but only 1 week)
haven't taken one in over 2+ years... and this opprotunity came up rather quick...
anyway, my daughter (14) would like to do at least those two activities...
any recommended locations here in CO to do such things?
tnx!

White water rafting I have done in buena vista on the askansas was a great time. There are several white water rafting places in buena vista I am sure there must be some places that you can rent horses also.
I have never rented horses since I have had horses my entire life untill about 8 years ago. My horse thunder died at age 34 I really want to get another one but at this time do not have the time or money.

For horse rentals, depends on what setting you like.
One place is just east of Indiana St. on 80th ave. Across the street from the high school. (city, edge of town riding)
Another place is on Hwy 119 about 2 miles south, of the town of Nederland. (Mountain trails riding)
Clear Creek, (I-70, 6th ave, west) has some rafting.
Never done them, so I can't recommend any of these, just saying they are there.

Noah's Ark in BV gets great press. I know a guy on CoTTORA who guides for them, might be able to hook you up or at least get you reservations.
thanks for the input guys.
made reservations for the rafting already.. now looking for horse back rides.
Its not so much for me, I grew up around horses, we had a Red Roan (from BLM land SW Colorado). My daughters only experince on a horse is to sit on one while someone walks the horse around [Shake]

I think they just started trail rides along royal gorge. That would be a really awesome ride.

Estes Park is awesome and has several rides available. Great Food and hotels up there. I have seen elk every time I go and the downtown is really cool. Don't forget the Stanley hotel.

I used to white water raft 2-3 time per month. I used a real safe and fun guide company called 4 corners rafting. They run the gorge and also the ar. river. If you have never rafted before, dont go gorge ...you need some tamer stuff to learn on first. It wont be as much fun and definatly more dangerous even though the guides will allow it. With the high cfm water levels, the rivers run much faster and hide more of the dangers.
One set of rapids I used to shoot a lot took about 2 hrs to do ...when the cfm hit 4700, it only took 24 minutes. Thats not just volume, but speed. That combined is what can be deadly. (the river was shut down just after that run) You might want to call ahead to find out if the river is running real high so you dont make the trip for nothing. Pay for the photos...its worth the memories! Have fun!
Last year I did a ride at a place outside of Fairplay. The American Safari Ranch. What differs is that it is open range riding as opposed to nose-to-tail riding. Of all the rides we have been on it was the best, kids liked it better than any other due to open range. Look past the guy that owns the place - he doesn't go on the rides.
