View Full Version : 2013 Ruger Rimfire Challenge World Championship, CANCELLED
CANCELLED
July 19-21 at Colorado Rifle Club.
Yes, the Worlds in Colorado!
Pueblo has the Regional end of April and we will have some local matches at CRC in between the two for Colorado shooters to get warmed up.
BUT...The purpose of Ruger Rimfire Challenge is to introduce shooters to competition, of all age and skill levels. This is the perfect event to bring out your wife, girlfriend, neighbor, kids, grandkids.
The prize table is going to be fantastic.
I have 3 Pro Shooters working on their rimfire ammo sponsor to be a sponsor for this match and provide all competitors with match ammo.

Is there a stage count/round count, estimated entry fee, or high level schedule yet?
What shady and unspeakable things do I need to do for an application?
I'm still in the development stage as of now.
Match fee, between 50 and 80, under 12 free, 13-18 half price.
11 stages, about 400 rounds, shoot sat/sun unless you are shooting as Staff, Sponsor or 2 divisions, then you shoot on Friday.

Yay! I'll be back in Colorado before this one.

Cool. Have missed you at matches lately. Hope the training is bearable.
Several major sponsors have already stepped up for this match already. There is about $32K committed to the prize table with less than 20 requests sent out so far.
I am looking for teams: couples, parent child, best friends, etc. with good people skills to work stages. I need one on each team to be over 21 and have command pressence. Being a trained RO/SO is fine, but I am willing to train folks who really want to work this match that have not RO'd.
Can we choose to shoot sat or sun or is it automatically both days. This sounds like a great time.
Saturday and Sunday unless you shoot both divisions, then all three days.

You still need help? I'm a solo, not team, but am trained RSO -- you'll have to talk to my current/former Scouts or people who've worked for me about my "command presence." ;-)
CANCELLED IN COLORADO. Call the Hickenlooper and thank him for this!
Working on a relocation for the match.

Well that sucks, wife and I just got into all this stuff and were looking forward to it. Did Ruger pull the plug? Can we get some more details so when we contact Hickenlooper we can present it with a well thought out message.
It was a combination of the sponsors, media and match staff agreeing that since the Governors office does not even know what the bills say, LE won't know how or what to enforce and not wanting to put competitors at risk, we could not complete the organization and running of this match. Out of state competitors would be at risk and that stress is not something we wanted transferred to them, especially with the focus of this sport on youth and new shooters.
200+ competitors, many with families, will not be coming to Colorado. Competitors typically spend from $500 to $1000 to attend a match like this.
Signing a bill, then the day after saying you don't know what it says is not responsible leadership. There is no debate there!

Thanks Mark, I figured it was all that, but if there were strong statements from the sponsors and Ruger that would help to pass those messages on to the Gov. as well. We did our first Steel Challenger/Rimfire combo the other weekend at CRC, looking forward to the monthly events. Bummed about this. I'll put together an email to the Gov and a phone call.

This does truly suck. I was really looking forward to this event. I completely understand the reasoning behind the cancellation and also understand where the true blame lies.

Thanks, Mark. I am seriously bummed about this but appreciate you looking out for us.
This would have been awesome. Hopefully the Apr rim fire match at CRC will be an ok substitute.
The new venue for the match is the USSA in Tulsa, OK. Still 12 stages of 6 to 7 targets, rifle and pistol and July 19-21.
$50 entry, Juniors free.
