Sunday I decided to take my dog up to the foothills so we could take a hike and he could play in the snow (he is a Bernese Mountain Dog). I wanted to stay off I-70 and 285 so I drove up towards Deckers out of Sedalia and stopped at Rampart Range Road and hiked in from the parking lot.
Not really worried but in case any Coyotes or Mountain Lions wanted to make a snack out of my dog, I took along my new Ruger Blackhawk .327 and Ruger tooled western style gunbelt. I couldn't be any more OC if I tried.
I had a guy on a 4 wheeler stop and ask me about the legality of riding on the road and we chatted about the trails for a while. I had several 4 wheel and MC riders go by who courteously slowed down near the dog and wave. Another couple were just starting on a walk as we were coming back and we chatted for a few minutes.
No one mentioned the gun, no one made faces at the gun, no one freaked out that I was carrying a gun. This is the way Colorado should be and used to be all the time. Made for a very pleasant morning.
