I tried to appeal to their Economic sensibilities, we'll see if that approach does anything...
ETA: Mayor Wilson is on our side and fighting this bill!! (see his reply below)
Here is what I wrote:
Dear Erie Board of Trustees and Mayor Wilson,
As a resident of Erie I wanted to write to all of you regarding House Bill 13-1224, and the effects it will have on our town. This bill will do nothing to increase safety (as the County Sheriffs of Colorado have stated), and will have lasting economic effects directly impacting Erie. Magpul, Inc. based here in Erie has said they will leave the state of Colorado if HB13-1224 passes (Denver Post, Business Section, Sunday 2-17-2013, Full page ad), Magpul employs hundreds of people throughout the state with most of them in Erie. I urge you to contact Governor Hickenlooper, and the members of the State Senate and tell them not to pass House Bill 13-1224. The economic impact on Erie from this bill passing will be immediate and hard on our town. Beyond the revenue of Magpul leaving, the revenue to other local business Magpul employees create will be lost. This was evident other day while out to dinner I noticed a group of Magpul employees enjoying the same Erie restaurant. I love our town and I hate to think of what losing Magpul would look like to our economy. Again I urge you to contact Gov. Hickenlooper and the State Senate and tell them not to pass HB13-1224.
Thank you for your time,
