View Full Version : I really hate stupid and impatient people in winter storm driving

[Rant1]Took nearly two hours to get home in what would normally have been less than half an hour. Okay, I figured it would take longer because of the snowfall but ...

I just love idiots who think they're special cutting around the line of cars going up a snow-packed hill. I understand the Hummer being impatient with all the dumbasses getting themselves stuck but he's not helping anything by racing around and taking up maneuvering room. At least the Hummer had 4WD and a decent engine -- the Minis and 2-door coupes (or better yet the 2WD oversize pickup -- seriously, WTF drives a 2WD pickup in Colorado, especially in a snowstorm?) leapfrogging to get in front of me only to get stuck and fishtail through two lanes up the hill .... bah! [Bang]

Stupid people should move back to CA or NY or NJ or some place where they'd be the norm! Odd thing was, I couldn't see an Obama sticker on a single one of the arses.

We have since 75. Never an issue. it's how you drive not what you drive. My ol lady has passed numerous 4x's in ditches as she cruises by them. She also knows what the other letters on the gear selector mean and how to use them instead of brakes in shitty weather.

They were probably too busy smoking a joint! dude..........is it me or really slippery???????????

I love when they drive like assholes to get aorund you / blow past you ... then a bit down the road ya see em wrecked out .

I was coming back from Albuquerque after christmas one year... Jeep locked in 4wheel doing bout 50 up I-25 .. had a guy blow past and nearly sideswipe me doing 70+ .... mile down the road guess who is in the ditch ? I just drove by pointing and laughing ( guy was out of the truck already ... seemed to be un injured)

I know where you are coming from. I drive an average of 4800 miles per month. People like that used to make me mad as hell. Anymore I just laugh and like you said you expect to see them crashed somewhere up the road.
Stupidest thing I saw was of La Veta pass. Guy in a big 4 WD truck going up the pass hit a deer. Totally obliterated the deer, just a total red mist in front of the truck, body parts everywhere. The guy didn't even slow down.

Good one.

I watched all kinds careless driving tonight on I-25 north. More than a few accidents, people drive too fast, don't account for ice on bridges etc.

I always get frustrated by the people who drive excessively slow when we get a little dusting of snow. 20mph in a 55 zone is probably not appropriate when we got .5 inch of snow...

Then again, I grew up in a state that actually gets real snow.. and it's wet and heavy and slippery and actually more dangerous to drive in because of the road conditions, not because of stupid drivers on the road.

It IS bad out there, though tonight. Very slippery underneath the snow. Took 1.5+ hours to pick up my daughter from youth group tonight!! Any road with a 'hill (or bump)' in it was like a parking lot. Overturned car on Austin Bluffs 'hill' shut down that road for quite a while.

I'm from the snow belt of NY state, so I know how to drive in this mess, it's the other crazies that scare me...

Exactly my point! I have no doubt that it actually is bad tonight... this is the closest thing to a REAL snowstorm Colorado has seen in 3 years! ...Which is why Coloradans don't know how to drive in it! ...Not to mention the huge number of military folks around Colorado Springs that have never seen snow before...

No damned excuse. I grew up in Hawaii driving a RWD station wagon on loose sand so a little snow doesn't bother me. In retrospect, I agree it's how you drive rather than what you drive but the dumbarse blowing past me in his 2WD pickup when he's fishtailing across 2 lanes was just aggravating. Yeah, it was annoying to be doing 0-5 mph but just what did he think when he saw a line 1/2 mile long up the hill? I hope he got to cool his jets for a good long while after he finally admitted to himself that he wasn't getting up the hill with his lack of traction.

I live up at the top of the Austin Bluffs hill near Stetson Hills Rd (Sundown subdivision). Been here 17 years and learned more than 15 years ago to avoid that hill once it gets slick; there's always wrecks and wiped out cars blocking any traffic from moving. Sad thing is that most every route to my home has a significant hill to contend with.

One of the greatest blessings of retirement is no longer having to daily drive no matter what conditions. I drove as a service tech for decades. Stay safe folks.

[ROFL1] Like the asshole who flew past me on I-70 (Mt. Vernon Canyon) in a '99 Mustang... three miles later in the ditch just after the Morrison exit. Dumb.

Even worse, many of those RWD folks don't keep good tires on their cars/trucks. I used to install tires and you wouldn't believe how many people don't get new tires until they are down to the radial or worse, actually get a blowout because the tires are so bald. Seriously, next time you're at Walmart and you're walking through the parking lot check out people's tires...50% of them will look like Mr. Clean's head. Bald tires + snow = [Train]

And AWD/4WD folks neglect their tires too. Even with bald tires they think they have traction because they were able to get rolling but 4WD doesn't help you stop...only the tire's can do that. People don't crash because they can't get going, they crash because they can't stop...dummies.

I learned my snow driving via 2 tours in europe. Nothing like making courier runs thru the Ardennes in the middle of winter lol. Or driving on the autobahn in a snowstorm.
I still have not figured out the people that move here that are scared chitless to drive in the snow yet still insist on trying drive during a storm.

Road design has a lot to do with it too. I27 from Amarillo to Lubbock for instance is the most ridiculous highway ever. Every overpass is in a curve. Hey, dumbasses, bridges ice over first.

Driving reasonably for the conditions is mandatory no matter where you are.

This shit is ridiculous!!! Monday morning (holiday) it took me 1 hour to get from Greeley to I-25 and Arapahoe. Tuesday, 2 1/2 hours each way. Last night 3 /12 hours. This morning 3 hours. Screw this thats why I dont like coming down here. I may cut this 2 week shindig off after today.

What I love, is that people here drive 70mph in the snow, yet turn into Betty White if it rains a little in the summer. I actually like California drivers (drivers.... not voters..... *puts on flame-proof clothing*) because they may be jerks, but at least they're decisive about it. Nothing pisses me off more than timid indecision.

I hate conditions like in the pictures CAR-15 posted. I drive slower because I'm just waiting to hit some ice and start spinning.

Also, all 7 of the claims I handled today were snow related. Kansas and Missouri were getting hit pretty hard the last two days.

I had the back end kick out on me on the way to work this morning. Just turned the wheel a bit and keep steady throttle all the way through the corner. It was a three left turn lane. The guy in the middle lane (I was far outside) gave me the crazy eyes after I straightened out. Guess it freaked him out a bit. I actually had to put the coffee down... blah. I hate that.

I kills me though. Vehicles behave in very predictable manors. If you are concerned about snow driving, as soon as it snows take your car over to an empty parking lot and fuck around. Best way to learn what your car will do when you get sideways.

I actually did do the parking lot thing today anyways. Lots of fun, especially with traction control off.

Aloha_Shooter
02-22-2013, 10:39
Part of my original complaint is just the pure selfishness that impacts others. Yeah, great, one RWD sports car made it past the parking lot and forced his way in to the traffic at the top of the hill but he did so in an erratic fashion that probably scared the bejeezus out of the other f--kheads in front of me, thus slowing down everyone else's drive. Yes, I go a little slower when I have questions about traction but I don't f--king stop in the middle of the road and block a lane (or two). I try to drive so my steering and braking are fully in MY control not Mother Nature's and I don't freak out others next to me by fishtailing across two lanes just so I can get in front of the line. [Bang]

Sorry, these yahoos still irk me. [Rant1]
