View Full Version : Good news I guess
I had a unique phone call no more than an hour ago from my state representative. I guess I am the most in awe that my representative even took the time to call me personally to discuss an issue. I wrote to him about how I was against further gun regulation. I pretty much explained how I feel on many other subjects. That I am a middle of the road and even uber liberal on many subjects (I know it pisses many of you off). But that guy actually listened and was receptive to my point of view. Talk about a breath of fresh air that way. This guy is a first time state representative and he has a "D" after his name too.
I guess the point I am trying to make is we are being heard. I hope that we can figure out ways to talk to our politicians rather than yell at them. Because surprisingly, there are some good ones who do care and listen. I personally don't think he would have ever called me had I have written to him in a confrontational tone. So when you write to your politician do your best to not start off with anger. That can sometimes lead to people never listening to each other.
Anyways.... that battle goes on.
Signed your liberal gun owner friend Nynco

Exactly, but you wouldn't expect a liberal to understand facts like that.
He said the only thing he agreed on was requiring background checks private party gun purchases. I raised my concern that people should not have to pay for background checks and he agreed that it was not a good idea. Remains to be seen how he will vote. It was Dominick Moreno.

I believe the appropriate term in this situation is "pwnd".
It is nice that your rep was willing to talk to you
Unfortunately it is now too late for the house to do anything and that rep already voted for the bills.

Did you ask him the most important question?
why do law abiding citizens have to ask for permission to enjoy their A2 rights?
"why do law abiding citizens have to ask for permission to enjoy third A2 rights?"
Yes I brought that up and said that people should not have to pay the gov to exercise their constitutional rights. He agreed that it was like a poll tax and that it was not right.

Merl I agree and it is making me into one too.
Here is what I just wrote to him:
Hello Dominick: You called me today. I really appreciate that you took the time to call me about this issue. I was so psyched that you took the time to call me. I think my excitement clouded my thinking. Because I could have sworn that you agreed that these proposed gun regulations were bad. Perhaps I should have listened more and talked less. But my interpretation was that you were going to vote against them. I went so far as to post on a local gun forum that you were a reasonable person who actually took the time to listen and talk with your constituents. Which you did. I guess I feel misled because I just got made a fool of. I praised you to them and then they showed me the link that you voted for ALL those new gun regulations that you sounded like you were against. So thanks for giving me the chance to look like an absolute fool while trying to praise you. I have become nothing but jaded lately that politicians don't care or never take on the issues that really matter. I honestly thought you were different. Now it feels like you lied to me. So thanks for dashing that little hope I had left in our broken system.
Pretty much... it does not matter who I vote for. Because NEITHER side deals with issues that matter. I can honestly see the Dems in Colorado being swept from power just for these gun issues. Just like the Dems were on the national level in 1994. I know I myself will do my part by not voting D next election. Because really you guys were all jazzed up to take my 2nd amendment constitutional rights. But don't seem to care as much about fighting for issues that REALLY matter like universal healthcare or mental healthcare. So why bother? Pretty much this has turned me into a one issue voter. Because none of my other core issues ever get any attention. So why bother. I am voting R until they come back and overturn these dumb anti 2nd Amendment Laws. I honestly thought the Dems learned their lesson. Stupid me....
Thanks for reminding me why I think our system is broken.

Wow, yeah, Doing things not allowed by the constitution, is REALLY important and taking away things guaranteed by the constitution doesn't really matter.
Just Wow....
And it IS people like you that vote for shit out of other peoples pockets that ARE the problem. If you and all the others like you weren't voting for power hungry liberals all to eager to overstep their constitutional bounds, the "gun debate" wouldn't be up for debate. PERIOD.
Never listen to what they say, but watch what they do. The Democrat party has overall taken an anti-gun stance across the board. There has been no room in their party for conservatives for quite some time...just ask Zell Miller.
I've been a primary issue voter my entire life. If you're not able to exercise your Second Amendment rights without the blessing or approval of any government body, none of the rest of the document is worth anything. The 2A represents your freedom. If you give that up...it's game over.

One way would be to vote the Dems out of office and then demand they respect your 2A rights. Until then NOT GONNA HAPPEN...........
The government can't give anything to someone that wasn't first taken away from someone else. If you think that's a good idea, then yeah, you're not going to get much sympathy from this crowd.

When gun ownership is put into a partisan framework, that rewards one side for going after the 2nd Amendment. We need to make gun regulation into a no win for either side.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can't possibly be pro-gun and vote democrat. You've just proved that. Furthermore, you keep trying to convince someone, maybe us or maybe yourself, that gun rights/ownership is a non-partisan issue. Absolutely not true. All you have to do (and you should've done it already...you wouldn't have made a fool of yourself if you had) is look at the voting records on the most recent 4 bills. Look at how the dems voted vs republicans (hint: 0 republicans voted for any of the bills). Then try to convince me again this isn't a partisan issue.

been alot of arguing in this thread that isn't necessary.
It comes down to nynco is a (D) gun owner who just got bent over with the rest of us. He has stated he'll vote R (or at least not D would be my guess, greens probably fit other issues well) for the near future until our elected officials get the point. That is EXACTLY what is needed to make them get the point. Elections are 2014 and when CO turns deep red the gun message will be heard loud & clear. We are the test case after all.
Primaries are spring 2014 (?), If these folks get replaced then the message will be even louder. It is one thing to lose the election over an issue. It is quite another thing to be replaced by your own party over it.

Dang nyco, you got a face full of it Bro... I'll give you props for courage though - I've been done with the DemonRats Party for quite a long, long time. They went after the 2nd in 1994 and that was it for me. My family is of Latino heritage, and was always DemonRat (and Catholic) by heritage (not sure why).
After 1994, I was dead set against the DemonRats (was never registered as one, thank God, just middle of the road and independent, but hey, I was young).
The DemonRats are all about taking our 2nd Amendment rights, to be followed by the rest of them. I AM a single issue voter for the most part, but I have to say, after 26 years of voting, I can't find anything the DemonRats believe that I personally can believe - don't trust them, and honestly believe they are the reason for the decline of our nation. Yes, I said it.
But hey, we're all young once :). Hats off to you for having the courage to even bring this up - and WELCOME to the Freedom Party.
I think our corrupt two party system is the root of most all problems we face. Its one party away from a dictatorship. And both are bought and paid for by the same people. That is why none of the big issues ever get addressed.
I personally think we are over 100 years past due on a constitutional convention. I find it abhorrent and insane that corporations can claim any rights like a living citizen. We need to stop ignoring the big problems and a system that defaults to two corrupt parties. A system that makes you chose between a Giant Douche and a Turd Sandwich, is nothing to be proud of. I would rather leave my country better off to my future children. In my opinion neither party is the path forward for that.

this system works best when it is divided (at least in my lifetime). When one party gets all the reins, better hold on in the carriage because a wild ride is ahead.
Merl. I think we as a society will be better served if we can figure out how to have a gov that has more than two parties controlling power. Its just too easy to corrupt. There is a reason the founders were wary of parties. I think we need to figure out a way to evolve past the two party dictatorship. I think it does a disservice to the core concepts that the Constitution is supposed to support.
I personally think we need to go to instant run off voting at a bare minimum.

I know how you feel. I voted for Clinton back in '92 then was horrified by the massive overreach on taxes, Hillarycare, and then the AWB. Now, I've been disappointed by the R's and their antics during the Bush years. Both parties are headed to the same place - huge government, infringed civil liberties, and massive debt. The only difference has been how fast they were going to get there.

Well, while I was a bit harsh in my first post, it's because to many of us here, we saw it coming a LONG time ago and Nynco just couldn't grasp what we were talking about then it seemed.
I will however give you the props you deserve for actually putting this all out on here.
Nynco, I sense a bit more of an awakening that is coming your way. You have every right to feel like you've been bent over and given it dry by "your party", because you have. They lie, they're politicians, that's what they do. Point being, in the REALITY of today's world the majority of us are voting against something, or for the lesser of 2 evils, only the Kool-aide drinkers of the first order are voting FOR candidates, and typically it's because they want something from them (materially) while the rest of us just wish they'd but the F out of our business, our bedrooms, our kids minds, and our wallets.
I know the first line of what follows will sound patronizing, like I'm talking to you like you're a child, but bear with me it's not meant that way.
The closer you get to the true realization that this is a Constitutional Republic and not a Democracy, and the more you learn what the real role of the government is meant to be in our country vs what it's become, that the answers to all our "ills" are truly in liberty to do for yourself/ourselves with as little interference from the government as possible, the more you'll see the rest of our points of view.
Government officials are by and large the biggest fricken parasites on the planet and owe their loyalty ultimately to the gigantic monster they've created and no one else. Not us, the tax payers and not the voters, we are all just a means to their ends, nothing more. They see us as beneath them, and as a mindless idiots for them to pander to, or convince that their bad answer is better than the other guy's bad answer. IMO anyone that has any faith whatsoever in a politician is naive beyond measure. I mean, we're talking about a creature who's every waking moment revolves around winning the next popularity contest.
And the Republicans are getting worse, thinking they'll win if they just out popular the Democrats. it's more sickening to me than when the Democrats do it, because they are/were "my party" although I've never really called them that. I've voted for them out of voting against the others. I voted for Mittens as the more viable vote against Obama here in CO although I would have much rather given my vote to Johnson. I know how stupid that sounds but it truly was a vote for the strongest candidate against Obama and it's Pathetic that we've come to that.
Hopefully enough people will awaken to this before it's too late, and vote for liberty in primary elections to get better candidates, and then gain them the support they need to win in the big shows on election day. Otherwise, we're all screwed in the long run, if it isn't already too late.

This has nothing to do with liberal or conservative. That mindset is why this is a partisan issue.
It has everything to do with liberalism. Without any doubt, gun control has always been another special interest in liberal agenda. This was stated on every left convention...
We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce common- sense laws and improvements – like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system, and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe
Every rational human being knows that the ban eliminates certain guns based on 'cosmetic/look' which do not make a semi automatic more deadly or more suitable for criminal use. Furthermore, the liberals have no class to exploit the tragedies to push their agenda.

The truth hurts?
I think either you are full of shit or he completely lied to you. Either way there is a liberal that is full of shit and a liar....say it ain't so!
There are conservatives that are just as full of shit and on issues that are REALLY important. Like Romney claiming that corporations are people. Pretty much we are headed for a world of shit no matter what side is in power because BOTH are bought. Obama never changed any of the fundamental problems that caused the economy to melt down. He gave a great speech and then Wallstreet got its way. Just wait till someone or something pulls the dominoes out of the derivatives market. Something that never existed before 1998 but now eclipses the worlds wealth by something like 32x the total combined wealth of the world. Unregulated capitalism is just as evil as communism. Its a system of bets on bets on bets with no one really knowing where it ends.
Ragging on this guy isn't going to do anybody any good. He's eating crow right now and claims to be making a u-turn. I'll take a converted liberal any day over one that's still part of the machine. A decade ago, I had some *shudder* liberal tendencies. Now I find anything not staunchly Libertarian, revolting.( I voted rabidly pro-2A even in my dark days, but hey... ) I hope he follows thru and votes this issue in the future.
I also think that if he's true to his word, he'll carry more credibility with his conversations with other liberals than any of us would.

Thanks for the long reply. I agree with you. I hope that one thing right, left, center, green, purple what ever... is that we need to get out of this two party hell.
If you don't know what the term Instant Run Off Voting means, please look it up. I think it is an important tool to restoring our freedom.

Jim do you really have to be such a jerk all the time? You need meds or something...
Until you actually grasp what has been happening to this country, because of the mindset of people like you, jerk or not i at least have a clue wtf was going on.
You disappear from the board for how long?,mmmmmmmmmmmm enough to know how bad it is. Then you POP up like an addict having that Brief moment of Clarity right before you slam in to the wall of life. Yeah i'm a jerk, you, well your numerous post define everything about you.
Whats that saying" A liberal is a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet. You were mugged so bad, you're on life support.
BTW: any luck scraping the Hope & Change bumper sticker off

this will give us all the freedom to vote for who we WANT to win and then chose to vote against people for the next round.

Jim you don't like me. I am ok with that. Because for the most part people with your attitude in life not liking me... well its a badge of honor. You take pride in being a jerk and you do it well.
There are conservatives that are just as full of shit and on issues that are REALLY important. Like Romney claiming that corporations are people. Pretty much we are headed for a world of shit no matter what side is in power because BOTH are bought. Obama never changed any of the fundamental problems that caused the economy to melt down. ill take my chances with a true capitalist society over a communist society any day. We have proven it is sustainable but the welfare leaches and entitlement programs wipe out the system. Even he democrats and Obama agreed to that very fact today in the USA today.

Id rather be a dick that a pussy or asshole any day of the week. Pussys and assholes get fucked. Dicks do the fucking.
BULLSHIT HE BLATANTLY VOTED for O, Tried to tell us the D party wasn't going after guns ETC ETC ETC. NYNCO AND anyone who sucks the D teat IS THE FUKIN PROBLEM. His "change of heart" I'm A SINGLE ISSUE VOTER is akin to being the only white guy in prison. No matter how many "Yo Bro's you shout out" everyone knows sooner or later you're getting raped. HIS PARTY FUKED US and now he's coming back after the fact with some aspirin to ease the pain $%^& HIM.
Unless the R's run a viable candidate the D's will remain. Combine a weak opposition with free dope, free shit army mentality and it ain't getting any better.
I'm gonna call a bullshit card on your bullshit card. I have serious issues with the R party, primarily on the social issues. So I've been voting (L) and skipping primaries as an independent. There are other issues out there than guns! Guns looked like another third rail so I could safely say neither side represented me. I got bent over too.
I've said this here before:
The (R) want you to live a perfect life according to God.
The (D) want you to live a perfect life according to the greater good.
Neither side is willing to say if you arent hurting anyone, do whatever you want. (and define that pretty broadly) So I voted for neither of them.
Even Adam Smith the guys that all the libertarians like to cite for economic theory wrote a whole book on how capitalism must be regulated by gov. Heck his quote that every single conservative likes to quote ad nauseum about the invisible hand... no more than a few sentences before argues against free trade. Any system without checks and balances will never work.

You fall for lies on the Internet easily. Just because you read what you want doesn't mean the one typing isnt lying. Just read the first post. Someone is lying. One is a confirmed liberal anti gun piece of shit Colorado elected official. The other is a self proclaimed liberal who claims to like guns and admis to voting for Obama. I am hopeful he is seeing some shed of light, but a whole lot more learning needs to take place before I start believing a post he types.
A vote for an independent is a vote for a democrat. Independents tend to appeal to the more extreme ends of the spectrum of the right. They just pull good votes away from what is the lesser of two evils. I'm pathologically Libertarian, yet I wouldn't dream of voting anything other than Republican with the current state of affairs.

No need to upset the apple cart, remember it's just a keyboard. We know where we stand, others remained silent until it was too late. Oh No not another cliche.
When they came for me it was too late.
sadly the "When they came for me it was too late." applies to too many things in life.

No and before you wrote about it now, I did not know it existed. I am researching it now. Thank you for pointing me in a productive direction.

At least with Capitalism, there is always the option to opt out. If the stock market crashes tomorrow, I won't loose any savings, because I don't have any money there. As with most things, education helps people make better decisions.

At the way Democrat and GOP defend the wallstreet, it's a matter of when actually.. but that's being said.. I still take capitalism over communism anytime. I dont even know where to start on this. You are so full of failure. Give up your guns and move to Laos, Cuba, North Korea, I ll even foot the bill for your one way ticket.

I agree, but both are extremes. What functions is the middle. I just don't believe in the most extreme forms of capitalism (Laissez-faire). Which every time markets move that way they implode. Which becomes trading one form of tyranny for another.

He said the only thing he agreed on was requiring background checks private party gun purchases. I raised my concern that people should not have to pay for background checks and he agreed that it was not a good idea. Remains to be seen how he will vote. It was Dominick Moreno.
