Is there a Sticky for buying a NFA gun

Is there some information for buying an NFA rifle somewhere? I want to know the steps for buying an M16.

I have some other questions too; Can I buy an M16 lower from somewhere? Does Jensens carry them? Besides the FCG what other parts are burst/auto specific to the rifles?

Keep in mind I am fairly new to this, I hadn't shot an AR since boot in '88. I just bought a RRA Varmint, and after looking at all the other cool toys at Jensens, I've been toying with buying something else.

I haven't had the chance to get back to Jensens and ask questions, last time I was there it was a Saturday and they were packed, not the best time to ask them anything.

I *think* Jensens carries them. That store is way too much fun! I tend to sneak away from work during the week day to ask them questions.

If you buy from a dealer they will walk you through the paper work. You have to decide if you want to register it to a trust, corp or personal.

The only difference between an ar and m16 is the fire control parts and the bolt carrier. The cheapest m16 you can get is going to be a sendra conversion they run about 13K.

There have actually been Colt SP1 and PAWS and some other conversions right around the 10K mark on the NFA ad boards at subguns in recent months.

auto sear pin holes and relief cuts are the defining feature of an M16 machinegun receiver.

The fire control group, bolt carrier, and (on some receivers) relief cuts on the upper are required for an M16 to operate properly, but not specific to the M16 alone, and by themselves would not make an AR-15 into a machinegun.
