So?
Why don't you provide an example. Ya know, like the OP requested?
I've got ammo in mine and then just random stuff from past builds or spare parts. It's certainly not organized.
.22LR in this ammo can, .40 S&W in that ammo can. .45 ACP in the other Can, .556 in these cans. Beanie babies in this one...?? Daughters...grumble grumble

Brass...
And first aid supplies.
Tools, random small gun parts, etc.
M&M's.
You know, for emergencies.
Ammo of course. Most of my stick magazines are in ammo cans if they fit. I have a couple that have all the stuff to make the particular round, reload dies, powder, bullets or shot, and primers. Emergency supplies in my van- water, bandages, energy bars, that kind of stuff.
Basically anything I want to protect.

Seriously? I'm new here and don't want to piss anyone off.
It's a container that keeps out moisture, and has a fixed amount of space within it. You can store anything you want that will fit in that container. A tow strap for instance, cold weather stuff like gloves or knit hats, food or water bottles, tools or hardware, maps, beer, herb,.....whatever man.

I have one that I waterproofed and bolted to the front right corner of my truck bed as a little survival kit. Holds a stripped MRE, sealed thermal blanket, Combat Gauze, an Israeli bandage, a couple tourniquets, water purification tablets, fire starting stuff.

They make great beer coolers when in a pinch. I use mine for pinstripe paints and brushes. Great for hauling guitar cords and misc stage bs as well.
farts mainly and sometimes just regular air . ever since that boating accident i dont have much use for ammo , but the practical joke of someone opening a fart box is priceless so i keep the boxes [Gas1][Gas2]

M&M's.
You know, for emergencies.
Is the M&Ms thing a military thing? I keep seeing references to M&Ms as an emergency-type snack especially from former and current military members, and it seemed to be a thing with my dad (he was Army, but not around anymore to ask).

Do you use CO2 or an oxy absorber, to maintain "freshness"?

Is the M&Ms thing a military thing? I keep seeing references to M&Ms as an emergency-type snack especially from former and current military members, and it seemed to be a thing with my dad (he was Army, but not around anymore to ask).
Quick sugar, taste good, and the best of the candies they put in the MREs.
Other MRE candy... peanut M&Ms, Twizzlers bites, Reese's pieces... I think that's it. I save em, put em in an empty pouch on my kit and eat em later.

M&Ms as a snack are hard to beat- you get a boost of sugar, it's an agreeable flavor that doesn't fight with coffee, and is a small shot of nostalgia. Every base I've been to has M&Ms offered as a snack.
I don't know what the military folk do in the hotter climates, though- I've never dealt with that problem.
The reason for the ammo can and M&Ms has more to do with keeping mice away than portability...
How dare they include such candies in MRE. Wait until the sasquatch and bigbird find out about this and correct this error like with the school lunches.
i had to stop eating m&m's because the defective rate was too high . way too many 3's , E's , and W's , it was maddening ![panic]

I keep some knives in mine, magazines, survival stuff, ammo of course.
I plan on repainting them this summer. I'm going to color code them for different types of ammo, etc.. I keep forgetting which ones are .22 and which ones are .223 and so on. Hopefully I dont forget which color is which ammo. I'll have to stencil the caliber as well. :)

These are all completely empty, but maintain a 2.5 mile distance in case of fire just to be safe.

Makes sense. Yeah, kinda nostalgic for me too as my dad always carried them as snacks when we hit the slopes.

Ammo in one, in the other? Gun parts, ear plugs, shooting glasses, gun tools, other things.
I have a couple 50 cal cans (1) is the cook box for camping and include utensils, pots, pans, grittle, etc. and the other is chains, tree saver and tow straps.

Tow chains, tire chains, flammable liquids, MRE's, fuel bars, tool kit, first-aid kit, ratchet straps, bungee cords, add some trays and store nuts and bolts, nails, hammers, trailer hitches, camping equipment, jumper cables, bottled water, spray paint, pistols, magazines. Ohhh and ammo

Another thing about M&M's is that the chocolate (non-peanut) one's keep enough freshness to stay consumable for years. With the whole "melts in your mouth, not in your hands" characteristic of them, they don't melt all over everything like other chocolate products do and don't get rock hard like other candies. In other words, they are great quick-energy candies that hold up well over long periods of storage.
Oh, and I use my ammo can's for ammo. Even though I make sure all of my cans have good seals, I use plastic bags inside the cans to help decrease effects of moisture. I stencil my identifying image onto all of them (Mandolorian Mythosaur skull - Star Wars bounty hunter clan image) and use label maker labels to identify the caliber inside. By using the labels, I don't have to repaint the caliber if I ever re-purpose the can.

I have some with ammo in them. And I replaced all of my garage coffee cans that I used to use for nuts, bolts, washers, and so on with ammo cans, mostly .50 cal size. I also have a couple with project parts.
Now apparently I need one for M&M's...
Groover..
But it's gotta be the tall 50 cal and not the short fat one [shithitsfan]

ammo.
Tools (specific applications in individual cans i.e. automotive electric, u-joint, rotary tools, sockets, etc.)
Food. (large Artillery boxes hold 50# flour, rice, sugar, salt, beans etc. and stack very nicely without collapsing like buckets.)
Guns. (I've heard an M44 and 800rds of ammo will fit in one of those large Artillery cans.)
brass.
powder
recovery gear. (shackles, snatch block, tree savers, Jumper cables, etc.)
Magazines.
I have quite a few Ammo cans.

I've got two 50cal and six 30cal cans.
50cal1: About 1.2k pistol ammo (450x 9mm and 750x .40s&w), 3x G19 mags, 3x G23 mags, 40-9mm conversion barrel, extra holster, cleaning brush and I think thats about it. If I can only grab one can, this one is it (along with my G23 that is, otherwise its 30cal1 and my AR).
50cal2: 12ga ammo. About 200rds #7.5 birdshot, and 50-75rds 00 Buckshot
30cal1: .223/5.56. About 500rds loose Federal bulk .223, 300rds boxed M855 and a grab bag of Tula .223 as last ditch ammo
30cal2: 250rds of .380acp, keep trying to slowly fill this but its expensive and is definitely going slowly
30cal3: 300rds of .38spl, again, trying to fill this but it is the lowest on the totem pole of my calibers
30cal4 and 30cal5: Around 1.5-2k .22lr bulk ammo and the other is about 1k of match ammo, CCI minimags, Win X ammo
30cal6: Future holding location of M&Ms because I apparently have not thought about this aspect of survival yet and without a proper stash of M&Ms, my stash of ammo is pointless.

Weren't M&M's originally created FOR the military? I thought they were created to be put in MREs back in WW2 or around then, so the soldiers could have a little snack and something to remind them of home.

Sometimes M&Ms come in MREs. If you're REALLY lucky, you get the peanut butter ones!

It was brutally painful trying to read that and all I got out of it is that you keep ammo in ammo cans and a rocket case. Sound about right?

So you"re the one I bought that from...
Here is what I did with one of mine
http://www.ar-15.co/threads/64309-Ammo-can-storage
I used to have some photos (lost in the hard drive crash) of a Willys CJ5 that a guy had made special brackets and mounted 2 or 3 ammo cans under the hood, inside the engine compartment. He kept hand tools, spark plugs, fuel filters, belts, stuff like that in them. Awesome idea, wish I still had the photos. But ammo cans are great for small tool kits and extra small parts. Safe containers for extra motor oil bottles, and so on.....
Ammo, tools, tie downs, camping stuff, fire starter necessities, toilet paper, maps. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Mostly just ammo though

Rondog, your shelves look like they are bowing a little bit? Don't you think you should get rid of some of that ammo and send it to me? It might be safer as my shelves are built a little heavier.
I have basically the same set up. I'll admit, my shelves are bowing a little as well.
I bolted a couple to the front of my trailers to hold tie-downs, chains and other small tools. Most of them are used for their original purpose.
Rondog, your shelves look like they are bowing a little bit?
Yeah, those shelves aren't real happy with me. That's all going to be replaced with a large wood cabinet with shelves made from 2x2's and plywood, lag bolted to the wall studs, with 1x4's for the corner posts and a center post, then enclosed on the sides with 3/4" plywood and 3/4" plywood doors, with hasps and padlocks. It'll be fully enclosed and "secured", will look like any other utility cabinet. Don't need anybody seeing what's inside my garage, thank you. Got it all covered up right now with a blanket.
One in my car- carries emergency kit (deicer spray, gloves, candle, waterproof matches and batteries for my flashlight), plus first aid supplies.
One in my house- cleaning kit for my guns.

How will you get into the car without the deicer?!
